WCOOP 2016: ISILDRooN quickly earns WCOOP glory in Event #76 ($320 PLO, Mix-Max, 6-Max)
There was one last Mix-Max tournament on the schedule as the 2016 World Championship of Online Poker neared the end. This time around is was some four-card poker played across two different formats. The $300 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha tournament drew more than 600 players and in the end it was Sweden's ISILDRooN making his second WCOOP final table while earning his first major online title.
The final numbers saw 637 players hop in the tournament to create a slight overlay on the $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. That was the number up for grabs and last 83 players earned a piece of the money with nearly $35,000 reserved up top for the winner.
But first, they needed to survive a few phases on Day 1.
Players began their day playing PLO on full-ring tables, nine around with plenty of action. They played that way through 13 full levels before switching things up to short-handed 6-Max tables. The second phase saw 205 players still around with ptmassis leading the charge.
They made the money a few hours into 6-Max action and they shut down the tournament for an overnight break after another 12 levels were in the books. pok3rforfun was the break-time leader but would not factor in the championship when he dropped out in tenth place.
The final table bubble took a little longer than expected but it finally burst when SCOOP 2015 8-Max champ Vakio¤Ässä was knocked out in seventh place by fellow COOP winner SpeedUp2 with turned trip eights versus two pair.
The remaining players joined as one at the final table with tarantaleo out front of the other five. SpeedUp2 had the biggest results of the final table players, sporting a WCOOP title from 2014 and a SCOOP win in 2015, but kinglune wasn't too shabby with his two Sunday Million final tables or ISILDRooN with his fourth place finish in the WCOOP 2016 Sunday Million Special Edition two weeks ago.

Lystig exits early, eliminated in 6th
Lystig was the short stack sliding into the final table and he waited eight hands before getting his chips in the middle. It did not end well.
It was a limped pot with tarantaleo calling on the button, ISILDRooN completing the small blind, and Lystig checking his option to see the Q♦T♠9♣ flop. tarantaleo bet out for 36,000 after two checks to get a fold from ISILDRooN and call from Lystig.
Lystig checked the 5♠ turn, SpeedUp2 bet enough to put him all-in, and Lystig called at risk.
Lystig was in a lot of trouble with his flopped two pair dominated by SpeedUp2's flopped straight, leaving him only four outs for the game-saving boat. The river blanked the 7♦ to send Lystig out in sixth place.
tarantaleo jacked up by ISILDRooN, eliminated in 5th
Ten hands later, tarantaleo got a little frisky and found himself in trouble. It began when he min-raised then called a pot-sized three-bet from ISILDRooN to see the J♠4♣3♦ flop.
Two bets later and tarantaleo's last 1.25 million went in the middle with flopped top pair J♥T♠9♣7♠. He was behind the bigger pair of ISILDRooN with K♦K♣Q♣8♥ but added a big draw on the T♣ turn. It was a 50/50 proposition for the two hands; the remaining deck included 20 good cards for tarantaleo and 20 good cards for ISILDRooN.
The 4♠ river was good for ISILDRooN and not so much for tarantaleo to send him out in fifth place.
Ashley Jones straightened out, eliminated in 4th
The chips continued to fly at the final table and there was another big pot eight hands after tarantaleo was sent packing. This time, they didn't wait for the flop to come out before the cards were face up.
SpeedUp2 popped it up to 78,080 and kinglune three-bet to 256,000 to get a fold from ISILDRooN. Ashley Jones put in a fourth bet from the big blind for his/her remaining stack of 417,366. SpeedUp2 abandoned his chips but kinglune came along for the ride.
Ashley Jones: A♠A♥Q♣T♦
Ashley Jones was ahead with the big pair and stayed that way on the T♣4♣4♦ flop. kinglune picked up a big wrap draw on the 9♦ turn, completed it on the K♥ river, and cracked some aces to send Ashley Jones out of the tournament in fourth place.
Seat 3: SpeedUp2 (820,900 in chips)
Seat 4: kinglune (2,001,560 in chips)
Seat 6: ISILDRooN (3,547,540 in chips)
SpeedUp2 pulled over, eliminated in 3rd
SpeedUp2 was an acceptable name at this final table, what with the blistering fast action. Nothing much happened for six entire hands before SpeedUp2 tried to get back into the mix. He was down to 500,000 and had his entire stack in the middle after a four-bet from ISILDRooN.
SpeedUp2 caught middle pair on the K♦8♥5♣ flop but ISILDRooN stayed ahead with top/bottom two pair. The J♥ turn was of little help and the 2♠ river was not one of SpeedUp2's six outs to stay in the tournament. It was a great run for the two-time COOP champion but he'll have to wait for another day to add a third.
Seat 4: kinglune (2,007,160 in chips)
Seat 6: ISILDRooN (4,362,840 in chips)
ISILDRooN completes dominant performance in Event #76
ISILDRooN began heads-up play with a better than two-to-one advantage and was content to let kinglune have four of the next six hands, there was nothing major going on in any of them. But then the seventh hand of heads-up play happened.
It was the good ol' six-bet shove from kinglune to get all of his chips in the middle and we had the biggest pot of the entire final table. It was as close to a cooler as you can get in a PLO game.
If the "kings versus aces" situation wasn't bad enough for kinglune, it got a lot worse when ISILDRooN nailed the Q♥T♦9♣ flop for the straight. It's rare to have someone drawing so thin in PLO but things did improve slightly for kinglune on the 3♣ turn. He was looking for one of the seven remaining clubs but the 8♦ river missed him to send him out in the runner-up position.
The final table sped along at a nice, crisp pace and it took only 40 heads to go from six-handed PLO to a champion in less than an hour. ISILDRooN already had a big final table appearance earlier in the series but now he can call himself a WCOOP champion.
