WCOOP 2017: anti-durrr wins $70K, second COOP title in Event #44-H ($530 NLHE, Progressive KO)

anti-durrr had it easy the first time around. The player from Cyprus took down a Super Tuesday Special Edition during SCOOP 2017 after entering heads-up play with a big chip advantage and cutting an advantageous deal. Today, with the title in Event #47-H of WCOOP 2017 on the line against top-flight competition, anti-durrr had to fight from behind both before the heads-up portion of play and during it. All that battling paid off big thanks to a couple of key hands, earning anti-durrr the biggest bounty prize of the tournament and a second career COOP title.

Poland's FloweerBoy, a past Sunday Million finalist, led the 47 players who remained in action after Day 1. Unfortunately the momentum didn't carry through to the final table. The Polish player's J♦ J♣ lost to Event #37-H finalist Romans "RovoDice" Voitovs's A♥ K♣ on the bubble. Crippled from the loss, FloweerBoy jammed with A♥ 2♠ and lost out to anti-durrr's K♥ 9♦, busting in 10th place and setting up this final table:

Seat 1: Dinesh "NastyMinder" Alt (2,363,315 in chips, $3,226.55 bounty)
Seat 2: anti-durrr (15,492,429 in chips, $6,165.99 bounty)
Seat 3: Laurynas "LaurisL91" Levinskas (3,903,978 in chips, $2,587.88 bounty)
Seat 4: Romans "RovoDice" Voitovs (7,751,088 in chips, $7,328.11 bounty)
Seat 5: motreanu90 (2,556,753 in chips, $3,745.10 bounty)
Seat 6: kopakabritu (4,047,842 in chips, $4,886.70 bounty)
Seat 7: Marty "TheLipoFund" Mathis (3,226,519 in chips, $1,250 bounty)
Seat 8: Rohid "FireFaux" Amari (4,317,936 in chips, $2,156.25 bounty)
Seat 9: Ariel "ArielBahia" Celestino (3,940,140 in chips, $4,839.82 bounty)

The first half-hour of play passed without a knockout, but the first hand back after the noon ET break made up for that. Two-time Super Tuesday champ Marty "TheLipoFund" Mathis's J♦ J♣ made top set on the flop but ultimately fell to Monday Million third-place finisher kopakabritu's A♥ K♣ when a queen on the river gave the Brazilian a Broadway straight, eliminating Mathis in ninth.

The next player to fall went 20 minutes later in a real doozy. Past Super Tuesday and SCOOP champ Ariel "ArielBahia" Celestino limped in for 120,000 chips from the cutoff with A♣ A♥, setting off a cascade of action. It started with TCOOP 2016 Main Event winner and WCOOP 2017 Event #34-H finalist Dinesh "NastyMinder" Alt moving all-in for 2.4 million chips on the button with 7♥ 7♠, continued when serial Stars finalist Laurynas "LaurisL91" Levinskas re-shoved for 3.8 million in the big blind with A♠ 9♠, and ended when ArielBahia called all-in for 2.1 million more. A 71-percent favorite against both opponents, ArielBahia nonetheless left in eighth when the river of the 3♦ Q♥ 8♣ J♦ 7♣ board made a set of sevens for NastyMinder. LaurisL91 followed two hands later after re-shoving with A♦ 7♦ on the button over anti-durrr's opener with A♠ Q♠; three spades hit the board and LaurisL91 hit the rail in seventh.

Bolstered by those wins, NastyMinder and anti-durrr took over the table for the next 20 minutes and saw their stacks rise accordingly - NastyMinder to more than 18.3 million chips with the blinds still at 70,000/140,000/17,500 and anti-durrr to 12.2 million, more than twice the nearest of the other four remaining players. And their leverage only grew when NastyMinder's K♣ K♠ in the big blind held up unimproved against small-blind raiser and past Super Tuesday runner-up Rohid "FireFaux" Amari's 5♠ 5♦, sending Amari to the rail in sixth. anti-durrr pulled off the same feat 10 minutes later - only with J♣ J♦ against 8♣ 8♠ - to sink past TCOOP runner-up and Sunday Million finalist motreanu90 in fifth.

The 10 minutes of poker after that were all NastyMinder. He won 14 of the next 19 pots to increase his stack from 24.4 million chips to 33.6 million, almost all from anti-durrr. In the middle of that was a hand where short-stacked RovoDice jammed for eight big blinds with K♠ 9♠; NastyMinder called with 8♦ 3♥ in the big blind and caught an eight on the flop to bust RovoDice in fourth. The streak ended only after NastyMinder opened in the small blind with A♣ 8♦ and then decided to shove after anti-durrr fired back from the big blind; anti-durrr called with J♥ J♠ and won the 17.7-million-chip pot with a set thanks to the J♣ on the flop.

NastyMinder and anti-durrr now held 90 percent of the chips in play between them, leaving kopakabritu with the other 10 percent to try to mount a comeback. The Brazilian mostly sat back and watched the two big stacks tangle with each other, picking up blinds and antes on occasion while anti-durrr moved into the lead after turning nines full with 9♣ 9♠ and calling down NastyMinder's river bluff with a busted gutshot draw. When it finally came time to take a stand kopakabritu got in with the best of it, check-raising and then calling all-in with J♣ T♠ for top pair on the same J♠ 4♦ 2♠ flop that gave NastyMinder's 7♠ 5♠ a spade flush draw. The draw came home on the 9♠ river and kopakabritu left in third.

NastyMinder, ahead by about 30 big blinds, proposed looking at numbers for a deal. anti-durrr had a look but wanted to split the money down the middle, so play resumed with the regular payout numbers still in force. NastyMinder held the lead for 15 minutes until the break but anti-durrr, after limping on the button with 7♦ 7♣, claimed it on the first hand back with fours full of sevens for 15.2 million chips.

NastyMinder would push back close to even two times in the 15 minutes that followed, but anti-durrr successfully pushed back each time. The win that turned the tide came after anti-durrr opened for 500,000 chips on the button with 9♥ 8♠ and called NastyMinder's re-raise to 1.5 million to see a 4♣ T♥ 2♥ flop. anti-durr called 1.3 million there and 2.4 million on the A♥ turn, then made a heart flush with the 7♥ river. NastyMinder check-called 5.2 million but mucked at showdown, dropping his stack to 7.9 million. anti-durr ground him down for five more minutes until he called all-in with J♥ T♦, which lost to anti-durrr's unimproved K♥ Q♣ to end the tournament.

Congratulations are due to anti-durrr for this victory against some very tough competition. With two COOP wins booked in 2017, the player from Cyprus will have a chance to join the Triple COOP winner's club in January when TCOOP rolls around again.
