WCOOP 2017: Pascal "Päffchen" Hartmann earns first COOP title ($215 PLO, 6-Max)

With Sunday Warm-Up and Super Tuesday wins on his resume, Pascal "Päffchen" Hartmann is certainly no stranger to tournament success at PokerStars. Somehow, though, despite appearing at COOP series final tables for years and making a run for the Player Of The Series title during SCOOP 2016, a COOP title eluded him - until today. After a hard-fought battle, Pascal Hartmann has just earned Austria's first title of WCOOP 2017.

Pascal Hartmann, your Event #5-H champion

Event #5-H, a $215 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Max tournament, shed more than 1,140 players from its starting field over the course of 33 blind levels on Day 1. Denmark's *FlipMyJinx* led the way with more than 100 big blinds and would retain that lead throughout much of Day 2. Päffchen began Day 2 in seventh place and moved up as three of the top five stacks at the day's start fell by the wayside. He was in a solid fourth place as the final table kicked off:

Seat 1: *FlipMyJinx* (17,553,683 in chips)
Seat 2: Pascal "Päffchen" Hartmann (8,059,053 in chips)
Seat 3: Slaventii003 (1,579,632 in chips)
Seat 4: Mr_Giiba (2,839,174 in chips)
Seat 5: Schinken777 (10,760,687 in chips)
Seat 6: Pucuttnyul (13,319,448 in chips)
Seat 7: torscotr06 (4,138,323 in chips)

The first knockout came on just the second hand of the final table. Pucuttnyul picked up A♣ A♦ T♥ 7♠ in middle position and raised to 420,000. *FlipMyJinx* called in the cutoff seat but folded after Slaventii003, past winner of the $82 Sunday PLO progressive KO tourney, jammed for 1.43 million and Pucuttnyul called. Slaventii003's A♥ A♠ 9♠ 8♥ was a 57-percent favorite before the flop, but Pucuttnyul came out ahead with trips sevens after the board came K♠ 7♥ 9♦ 7♣ K♥ and Slaventii003 departed in seventh.

Four hands later *FlipMyJinx* claimed another victim. The Danish player re-raised to 840,000 out of the small blind with K♥ K♣ 5♣ 4♣ after toscotr06 raised to 280,000 on the button. torscotr06 , who won the $162 Pacific Rim Special just a week ago, called that bet and then moved all-in for 3.08 million chips after *FlipMyJinx* led for 1.25 million on the 3♦ 4♠ 2♥ flop. *FlipMyJinx* called and remained ahead after the 7♦ turn and 3♣ river, sending torscotr06 to the rail in sixth.

Only six more hands passed before the third knockout. This time Päffchen opened the action from the small blind, raising to 480,000 chips with A♦ K♣ 9♣ 9♠. He called when past Saturday KOmania 5-Card PLO winner Mr_Giiba shoved for 1.2 million in the big blind with K♠ Q♣ 8♠ 7♠, taking down the 2.4-million-chip pot with nines and fives on the 3♥ 5♦ 4♦ 7♦ 5♠ board and eliminating Mr_Giiba in fifth.

Three departures in just 12 minutes of poker signaled the potential for a very brief final table. But it also set up a four-handed table where even the shortest-stacked player was working with at least 52 big blinds. As the owner of that stack, Päffchen had plenty of time to make something happen. And in a bit more than two hours, he would come out on top.

The four remaining players were well-matched. They took turns holding the chip lead over the next hour, eventually clustering together with between 65 and 75 big blinds each. Things likely would have continued down a similar path even longer if two players hadn't both been dealt ace sin the hole on the same hand. Past Super Tuesday finalist Schinken777 opened the action, min-raising to 500,000 on the button with A♠ A♦ T♦ 2♣; Pucuttnyul re-raised to 1.75 million in the small blind with A♣ A♥ J♦ 7♥ and then called all-in for 7.1 million more when Schinken777 jammed on the button in response. What looked likely to be a split 18-million-chip pot went to Schinken777 with a diamond flush after the board fell 9♦ 8♦ Q♥ 2♦ 4♦, ending Pucuttnyul's run in fourth.

That win gave *FlipMyJinx* 19.2 million chips in total, smack in the middle of Schinken777's leading 22.2 million and Päffchen's 16.7 million. The blinds were still at 125,000/250,000 and the players themselves were still evenly matched, but eventually Schinken777 was able to begin pulling away from the field. *FlipMyJinx* fell behind first but then doubled through Päffchen with K♣ Q♠ J♣ 3♣, turning two pair to beat his A♦ K♥ Q♦ 2♠. Then Päffchen returned the favor, making a set of sevens with 8♣ 7♦ 7♠ 3♣ to stay in the game. Four hands later Päffchen turned everything completely upside down, making another set - this time sixes with J♠ J♣ 6♦ 6♥ - that became a full house to beat Schinken777's flush for an 11.2-million-chip pot.

Now in possession of the lead, Päffchen turned up the heat on his opponents. He won 11 of the next 15 pots and ended up with just over half the chips in play. Then he expanded that lead by taking out *FlipMyJinx*.

*FlipMyJinx* started the hand with a min-raise to 800,000 in the small blind, then called a Päffchen big-blind re-raise to 2.4 million to see the 2♠ 8♠ A♣ flop. *FlipMyJinx* check-raised all-in with A♥ J♦ 8♣ 7♣ for top two pair - and then Päffchen called with A♠ A♦ T♣ 6♣ for top set. Both had full houses after the 9♥ turn and 8♣ river, giving Päffchen the 24.8-million-chip pot and ending *FlipMyJinx*'s tournament in third.

Heads-up play didn't last for long. It took just eight minutes Schinken777 to pick up A♥ A♦ 7♦ 5♣ in the big blind; the German player raised to 1.5 million after Päffchen limped on the button, and Päffchen called to see a T♥ T♦ 2♣ flop. Schinken777 led for 2 million chips with aces and tens and then called all-in for 12.1 million total when Päffchen raised, only to see him turn over Q♥ T♠ 9♣ 3♠ for trip tens. Another ace or a back-door wheel straight could have prolonged the match, but the 8♠ turn and 2♥ river locked up Päffchen's victory.

Congratulations to Pascal "Päffchen" Hartmann on overcoming a skilled final table lineup and finally adding a long-awaited COOP title to his lengthy tournament resume!
