WCOOP 2018: All the news from Day 12

It was clear in the early morning that Thursday was going to be hectic for Mike "SirWatts" Watson. And by the time the sun set, the former PCA champion had completed one of the best days of anyone at this year's World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). Watson's story headlines today's WCOOP round-up.

ARISE AGAIN SIR WATTS

Former PCA champion Mike "SirWatts" Watson quickly finished the job in the $215 2-7 Triple Draw yesterday, winning his first WCOOP title of the series and fourth of his career. He then came back to play the final of the $2,100 6-Max shootout. He finished second in that, losing heads up to PokerStars reg "josef_shvejk". Watson has more than $4 million in online tournament winnings, including three SCOOP titles, and more than $11 million in live tournaments.

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

I LLove It: Linus "LLinusLLove" Loeliger won the biggest prize of WCOOP 2018 so far: $587,747 in the $25,000 NLHE 8-Max High Roller.

Linus "LLinusLLove" Loeliger: Big winner

The prize pool was more than $2.5 million and the final table included Henrik "hhecklen" Hecklen, "fo0zzy, Mike "mczhang" Zhang, Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen, "SkaiWalkurr", "bartek901" and Patrick "pads1161" Leonard.

Hecklen isn't bitter about his heads-up defeat. I think they call this a "humblebrag":

Šekularac denies Boeree: Ognjen "psjebemvas" Šekularac won the $2,100-M High Roller for $228,348.36, with Liv Boeree fourth for $82,710.80. "psjebemvas" is a former SCOOP champion, who added his first WCOOP title. Meanwhile, Boeree's two final tables in High Rollers make her the most profitable of the Team Pros playing in this WCOOP. In the $215 buy-in version of this event, Jaime Staples finished 124th for $887.77. Fatima Moreira de Melo won $360.21 for 656th.

jenbizzle the shizzle: The medium buy-in shootout was won by Ben "jenbizzle" Jones of the UK, who is a three-time SCOOP champion. He has also won the Warm Up, the Super Tuesday, the Sunday Supersonic and has more than $2 million in tournament winnings on PokerStars.

PLAYER OF THE DAY

For all of Mike "SirWatts" Watson's exploits yesterday, it was fellow high roller Joao "Naza114" Vieira whose performances caught the eye of the Player of the Day judges.

Vieira started his day by winning the high buy-in 2-7 Triple Draw title. He then won the $5,200 side event--a late addition to the WCOOP schedule, which does not count for leader board points but still pays a hefty prize. He beat a field of 98--including Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel--to win $136,124.88, including bounties.

Joao Vieira: Superb day at the WCOOP tables

"Naza114" has also made the money in the $1,050 HORSE and will come back in 23rd of 24 in that restart. He is also fourth of 341 coming back in the $1,050 NLHE.

TOP TWEETS

Welcome to Twitter, particularly WCOOP Twitter @FKid18:

@philgalfond is sweating the leader boards:

It's Day 2 mania for other players including:

Jaime Staples and significant other:

Sweet relief for @LexVeldhuis, into Day 2 of the $530 bounty, and loving it:

But that's just half of Mike "@GoLeafsGoEh" Leah's achievement:

And @pokerste1 is breaking new ground. First of many we hope...

TWITCH WATCH

Here's a pleasant surprise for our streamer Jason "jcarver" Somerville. Watch for a fairly sharp revising of tactics in a 5-Card Omaha hand when he gets what you might call a favourable flop. Then ask yourself, how do you play a flopped royal?

LEADER BOARD UPDATES

It's all getting incredibly tight at the top of the "low" buy-in Player of the Series standings, where only 20 points separates the top six. With $5,000 added money, and a trophy, up for grabs, this one is going to the wire.
