A Royal Win for StirlngPrinc Awards $2,034.88 in the May 1 Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThere's not much of a better way to ring in the new month of May than with an online poker tournament. Of course, some people prefer to spend the Sunday outdoors, enjoying spring weather and cooking up a nice family meal, but there's a downside to that choice. No PokerStars, no guaranteed prize pool, no money-making opportunities... To each her own!

That brought us to the first Women's Sunday event of May, where the $55 buy-in offered players the chance at a $7K guarantee. But even better, many women won their seats into the tournament for a fraction of the buy-in, as satellites ran throughout the week all the way up to the start time of the tournament. The $5.50 Last Chance satellite offered 10 seats just moments before the 14:30 ET start time of the Women's Sunday.

And when registration closed, the final numbers looked like this:

Total players: 199
Prize pool: $9,950.00
Paid finishers: 36

Many familiar faces came to play, including some who compete each week. But the most recognizable faces - and the ones with $50 bounties on their heads - were the two Team PokerStars Pros. Celina Lin registered before it started, and Liv Boeree took her seat a bit later.

Lin was the first of the two pros to be eliminated, and it happened with a short stack all-in holding A-T against the A-K of ki$ikPRO. The king kicker held on the blank board, and ki$ikPRO was awarded the $50 bounty for knocking Celina Lin (pictured below) out in 122nd place.

And a bit later in the tournament, Boeree put her 8,505-chip stack at risk with A-7 but found that it was no match for the A-Q of Lolas_mamma, who grabbed the $50 bounty for sending Boeree out in 56th place.

Almost exactly at the three-hour mark, FOTKA1978 was eliminated in 11th place to launch hand-for-hand play, and it wasn't long before $tackChip$ moved all-in with A♦J♥, only to find herself up against the A♠Q♣ of DesiDesiree in the big blind. The board showed 9♥4♥3♠5♥9♠, and $tackChip$ took tenth place with $159.20.

DesiDesiree dominates as final table begins

The last few minutes of Level 17 brought on the final table, with blinds at 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante, and players began with the following chip counts:

Seat 1: deliore (29,217 in chips)
Seat 2: DesiDesiree (218,091 in chips)
Seat 3: sigiziy (42,074 in chips)
Seat 4: StirlngPrinc (117,432 in chips)
Seat 5: Lolas_mamma (42,284 in chips)
Seat 6: iaperle (74,421 in chips)
Seat 7: Hawksrule247 (26,556 in chips)
Seat 8: Solo Futte (34,986 in chips)
Seat 9: macblagsta (11,939 in chips)

The very first hand of the last tournament table saw big action, as macblagsta raised all-in from early position, and deliore followed with an all-in reraise. Macblagsta was covered and at risk with K♥Q♦, while deliore had an edge with A♦9♥. The board produced T♥5♣2♥5♥T♦, and the ace kicker eliminated macblagsta in ninth place with $189.05.

After Hawksrule247 doubled through StirlngPrinc, the latter decided to gamble again soon after. When StirlngPrinc made an initial raise and Lolas_mamma reraised all-in for 26,484 more, StirlngPrinc called with K♦K♠, which dominated the Q♠Q♥ of Lolas_mamma. That left it up to the dealer, which gave them T♦A♠A♦8♠6♠. The queens were dismissed, and Lolas_mamma walked away with $248.75 for eighth place, along with the $50 bounty for eliminating Liv Boeree earlier.

After sigiziy doubled through Solo Futte, the latter was crippled but managed to double back through Hawksrule247 and deliore.

Deliore was then prompted to move all-in, and original raiser StirlngPrinc called with A♥6♦. Deliore showed A♣Q♠ and looked for that double-up, but the board brought 7♠8♣9♠6♣8♠. That eliminated deliore in seventh place with $348.25.

More double-ups followed, as Solo Futte did it through sigiziy and Hawksrule247 did the same through Solo Futte.

Two repeat final tablists fall in succession

Solo Futte, who made the final table of last week's Women's Sunday and finished in fifth place, needed to move and did it with A♦8♠ from the small blind. Original raiser StirlngPrinc called, as did DesiDesiree from the big blind. They checked down the board of K♥9♣4♠T♦3♠, and StirlngPrinc showed J♠T♥ for the pair of tens that won the pot and sent Solo Futte packing in sixth place with $447.75.

Moments later, sigiziy moved all-in, but iaperle called all-in and was at risk with 7♣7♥. Sigiziy turned over A♣Q♠, and the board came 6♠4♦6♥Q♣6♦. It was all flash and gave both players a full house, but the sixes full of queens won, eliminating iaperle in fifth place. She took home $577.10 and the distinction of bettering her seventh place finish in last week's Women's Sunday.

The very next hand found Hawksrule247 all-in for 73,300 chips, and StirlngPrinc called with A♠Q♣. The race was on when Hawksrule247 showed 9♣9♦, but the board of 8♦3♣J♠A♦3♠ gave StirlngPrinc the best two pair. Hawksrule247 flew away in fourth place with $845.75.

Sigiziy doubled through DesiDesiree once, but when the two tangled again, the outcome was the opposite. Sigiziy moved all-in with A♥8♦, and DesiDesiree called from the big blind with T♠T♥. The board of 6♥6♣7♦2♣9♠ only improved the tens to two pair, and sigiziy was gone in third place with $1,124.35.

StirlngPrinc starts heads-up with strong lead

The final two players began their match as follows:

Seat 2: DesiDesiree (142,432 in chips)
Seat 4: StirlngPrinc (454,568 in chips)

DesiDesiree waited for the right moment to attempt a double-up, and the following was it:

A few hands later, DesiDesiree took a pot worth more than 205K and jumped into the lead. For some time, the two maintained nearly even chip stacks.

The battle continued for nearly 30 minutes until StirlngPrinc doubled through DesiDesiree when her pocket tens bested the pocket sixes of her opponent. That gave StirlngPrinc the lead, though DesiDesiree fought back to even the stacks again. But one hand that started with a raise/reraise battle led to StirlngPrinc all-in holding 3♦3♥ against the K♠Q♦ of DesiDesiree, and the threes held, leaving the latter left with only 12K in chips.

DesiDesiree put her tournament on the line one last time with 8♣6♦, which was posted by the big blind, and StirlngPrinc called with 6♥3♣. The board showed 4♥3♦K♦5♦5♠, and DesiDesiree had to accept the second place finish and $1,492.50 that went with it.

StirlngPrinc took down the first Women's Sunday tournament of May, for which the prize was $2,034.88. Congratulations!
