Brazilian lookingfor29 seeks and finds Women's Sunday victory
There is some exciting news from PokerStars Women regarding the ever-popular Women's Sunday tournament!
First, it was announced this week that next Sunday's tournament - same time, same place - will be a part of the Double Vision Sunday, which means the guarantee is doubled. Moreover, the Women's Sunday guarantee is going further by making the guarantee a whopping $15,000. And the bounties on each of the pros, of which there will be many, will be $100 instead of the normal $50. Also, everyone that plays in next week's event will be awarded a ticket to a PokerStars Caribbean Adventure satellite. Check the Women's Sunday page for details.
Second, we have breaking news. After next weekend's special event, the Women's Sunday will be increasing its weekly guarantee to $10,000. With more women playing each week and a demand from players to up the ante, so to speak, the Women's Sunday will be a $10K Guarantee each week going forward.
As for this week, let's get to the numbers:
Total players: 234
Prize pool: $11,700.00
Paid finishers: 36
There were four players with PokerStars logos next to their names this week, meaning there were four $50 bounties up for grabs. The first of them to be eliminated was new Team PokerStars Pro Ana Marquez of Spain, and she was followed by Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander of Belgium, both of whom exited before registration was complete. Team Pro Liv Boeree of the UK departed not long after.
Still going strong, however, was Team Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo of Holland, hanging out in the top 20 on the leaderboard as the second hour of play moved forward. But suddenly, she got involved in a monster hand with realqueenb and was eliminated in 96th place, while realqueenb collected the $50 bounty and took over the chip lead.
The money bubble burst less than 2.5 hours into the game, giving the top 36 players a minimum payout of $87.75. Play moved more quickly from there, as there were only two tables about 20 minutes later. Last week's winner, dreeniee82, exited in 13th place but came very close to back-to-back final tables. Hand-for-hand play ensued just into the third hour, and it took only minutes to see a massive hand develop.
Gingerweasel led out with an all-in raise, and mini1 moved all-in with slightly more chips. Lookingfor29 called both players with A♦K♦, mini1 showed A♠J♦, and gingerweasel had A♥8♣. The board came Q♠9♦7♦Q♣2♦ to give looking29 the flush. Gingerweasel left in tenth place with $187.20, and mini1 took ninth place and $222.30.
Lookingfor29 locks up chip lead
Only eight players made the actual final table, which started in Level 17 with blinds at 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante. The starting chip counts were:
Seat 1: damnlynx (100,781 in chips)
Seat 2: ITakeChop (121,238 in chips)
Seat 3: lookingfor29 (171,110 in chips)
Seat 4: QueenBee902 (49,350 in chips)
Seat 5: realqueenb (60,291 in chips)
Seat 6: walivo (89,684 in chips)
Seat 7: EfiGr (64,199 in chips)
Seat 8: rockstar2 (45,347 in chips)
Damnlynx didn't take long to score a double through ITakeChop to gain ground on lookingfor29, and when ITakeChop doubled through lookingfor29, damnlynx took over the top spot.
QueenBee902 doubled through damnlynx twice, putting the former atop the leaderboard.
ITakeChop was aggressive and got involved with walivo in a hand that started with a 4♠A♠8♣ flop. A bet and call brought the 3♣ turn, and walivo bet all-in. ITakeChop called for her last 54,030 chips with A♥9♠ for top pair, which bested the A♦7♣ of walivo. But the 7♠ hit on the river to give walivo two pair and eliminate ITakeChop in eighth place with $292.50.
Damnlynx simply couldn't recover from the beats by QueenBee902, and the two tangled again. Damnlynx moved all-in preflop with 9♣6♣, and QueenBee902 called with A♠K♣. The board came Q♣J♣8♥Q♥4♥, and that left damnlynx out in seventh place with $409.50.
Realqueenb doubled through walivo but remained on the short stack. Another all-in move came from early position, and lookingfor29 called from the small blind for 31,782 more. But when QueenBee902 reraised all-in from the big blind, lookingfor29 folded. QueenBee902 showed A♦Q♠, and realqueenb was the underdog with A♣8♠. the board came 9♥Q♥T♦3♦2♥, and the pair of queens was more than enough to eliminate reqlqueenb in sixth place with $526.50.
Rockstar2 was the next to risk it all, moving all-in from the big blind with A♦8♠. Original raiser lookingfor29 called with 8♦8♥, and the pocket pair only improved to two pair on the Q♠7♠J♦9♥7♥ board. Kathy "rockstar2" Rowe, the winner of this year's WCOOP Woman of the Series award, finished this tournament in fifth place with $678.60.
EfiGr was on the short stack and pushed with Q♠9♦ from the small blind, and lookingfor29 was again able to call, this time from the big blind with A♦6♥. The flop of A♥3♠2♠ secured top pair for lookingfor29, and the 3♥ and 3♦ turn and river cards made that hand into a full house. EfiGr was eliminated in fourth place with $994.50.
Walivo then doubled through lookingfor29, a much-needed move at that point:
Walivo continued to dominate by taking down bit pots, and she then got involved with QueenBee902. The hand started with a limped pot to see a 8♦Q♥3♠ flop. A bet and call brought the 9♥ turn, and QueenBee902 bet out again. That time, walivo raised, and QueenBee902 reraised all-in with 9♣8♣ for two pair. Walivo called with Q♠7♦ for top pair, but the 7♠ came on the river to make a better two pair. QueenBee902 took the beat and $1,322.10 for the third place finish.
Battle of the Brazilians
The final two players, both hailing from Brazil, started their match with these chip counts:
Seat 3: lookingfor29 (136,356 in chips)
Seat 6: walivo (565,644 in chips)
Lookingfor29 was looking for the right opportunity to make a move and found it here:
That put lookingfor29 in the lead, and walivo never regained her footing. Walivo pushed with K♣Q♠, and lookingfor29 was along for the ride with A♠2♣. The flop of 9♠J♥2♠ gave lookingfor29 bottom pair, and the J♦ on the turn brought two pair. But the 2♦ on the river made a full house, eliminating walivo in second place with $1,755.00.
Lookingfor29 of Brazil took down this week's Women's Sunday title and $2,392.65 in prize money. Congrats!
