Bright Day for BettyBrite, Winner of April 17 Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThe Women's Sunday has been growing at a rapid pace, and by the fourth week, the guarantee was raised from $5K to $7K. It was an indication of how popular the women-only events have become and how much the women of PokerStars enjoy such offerings from PokerStars Women. The starting time was also moved up to 14:30 ET, where it will stay, due to the requests of many players. Onward and upward!

As an even bigger testament to its popularity, the Women's Sunday registration numbers went well beyond the $7K guarantee. With satellites running all week - even a freeroll from the new PS Women Facebook page - many players were able to get into the $55 buy-in event for free or a fraction of the cost. And a drum roll for the final April 17th tally:

Total players: 203
Prize pool: $10,150.00
Paid finishers: 36

A favorite part of the Women's Sunday is the pro bounties. The Team PokerStars Pros in the field this week were Victoria Coren and Liv Boeree, both representing the UK. Coren departed the tournament early, but Boeree was in strong form to make another deep run. A little walk down memory lane recalls Boeree finishing in 11th place on March 27, eighth on April 3, and 11th place again on April 11.

But another final table was not meant to be. Boeree was crippled about two hours into the tournament and exited in 44th place, at the hands of Lotus80, who picked up her $50 bounty.

The tournament then moved forward toward the money, and once the bubble burst, they were on to the final table. During hand-for-hand play with ten competitors remaining, there were several double-ups and many chips changing hands. Finally, though, just as the 3.5-hour break was starting, Blazerr13, paty2610, and Fun Crissy got involved to see a 5♣K♠7♠ flop. Blazerr13 moved all-in, Fun Crissy got out of the way, and paty2610 called with 4♠3♠. Blazerr13 showed K♥Q♠ for top pair, but the flush hit for paty2610 when the T♠ came on the flop. That was enough to eliminate Blazerr13 in tenth place for $162.40.

Paty2610 pounces into strong final table lead

When players returned from the break, they started the final table in Level 19, with blinds at 2,500/5,000 and a 500 ante, along with the following chip counts:

Seat 1: LaliTournier (67,568 in chips)
Seat 2: D. Leopardo (65,404 in chips)
Seat 3: Fun Crissy (41,487 in chips)
Seat 4: paty2610 (137,192 in chips)
Seat 5: Fokababy20 (47,595 in chips)
Seat 6: EEOR2FOLD (91,644 in chips)
Seat 7: BettyBrite (80,592 in chips)
Seat 8: Gabor0802 (58,728 in chips)
Seat 9: jillmell (18,790 in chips)

It only took a short time for short-stacked jillmell to make her move with less than 12K chips. She pushed preflop with A♣7♥, and D. Leopardo called with Q♥J♦. The board came 7♣9♥J♥9♠2♣, and D. Leopardo scooped it with best two pair. Jillmell was the first to leave the final table, taking home $192.85 for ninth place.

Fun Crissy then doubled through paty2610, firmly removing the latter from the top portion of the leaderboard. But the next hand produced a battle of the blinds in which paty2610 raised from the small, Fokababy20 pushed all-in from the big with A♦4♦, and paty2610 called with J♠J♥. The dealer gave them a 7♥4♥3♦5♥T♠ board, and the jacks held up to eliminate Fokababy20 in eighth place with $253.75.

EEOR2FOLD doubled through Fun Crissy to stay in the game, which enabled paty2610 to move back into the position of chip leader.

The very next hand saw Gabor0802 risk her 35,128 chips with 8♣8♦ from the small blind, and original raiser paty2610 was the only caller. She showed K♥9♥, and the board of Q♥K♦J♥8♥9♦ made a flush for paty2610. That left Gabor0802 gone in seventh place with $355.25.

Paty2610 unstoppable?

Fun Crissy doubled through paty2610, but then D. Leopardo doubled though Fun Crissy and LaliTournier did the same through EEOR2FOLD. All the while, paty2610 increased her lead over the bunch.

That last double put EEOR2FOLD in a position to move all-in, which she did soon after with A♣9♠. Paty2610 made the easy call with A♦A♥, and those aces only improved to a set on the 5♣J♠8♥2♣A♠ board. EEOR2FOLD was forced out in sixth place with $456.75 in prize money.

Fun Crissy finally made another double attempt with K♥Q♦ from the small blind, but paty2610 called with J♣J♦ from the big blind. The board blanked with 2♦7♠4♠T♠9♠, and Fun Crissy's fun was over as she left in fifth place with $588.70.

This double of BettyBrite through LaliTournier changed the look of the tournament:

Action heated up from there. A very short-stacked D. Leopardo moved less than 10K chips all-in with A♦A♠ against the T♦8♦ of paty2610, but the flop of T♠8♣3♠ cracked those aces. The Q♥ turn and K♦ river ended the run for D. Leopardo, who qualified for the tournament through the $5.50 Last Chance turbo satellite just before the Women's Sunday began. She cashed out today with $862.75 for the fourth place finish.

The very next hand saw LaliTournier all-in preflop with A♥5♦, and paty2610 was the caller with Q♦9♦. The board came Q♥6♥A♦4♦K♦ to produce a flush for the chip leader and eliminate LaliTournier in third place with $1,146.95.

Harrowing heads-up match

The final two players were too close in chips to declare anyone in control:

Seat 4: paty2610 (366,416 in chips)
Seat 7: BettyBrite (242,584 in chips)

And everything changed when BettyBrite took a pot worth 262K from paty2610. BettyBrite climbed into more than a 2-to-1 lead, but paty2610 came back to win a 170,400-chip pot to even the stacks. The duo battled for quite a while, even taking it past the 4.5-hour mark of the tournament.

BettyBrite stayed aggressive and didn't let up on her opponent. Finally, paty2610 was down to nearly 60K in chips and decided to move. The all-in push came with A♦5♦, and BettyBrite called with K♦9♥. The underdog hand hit an ideal flop when it came 3♠K♠K♥, and though the 7♣ on the turn changed nothing, the K♣ on the river made quads. Paty2610 had to accept second place and the $1,522.50 that went with it.

BettyBrite of Canada became the latest Women's Sunday champion, for which she won $2,075.78 and the title. Congratulations!
