Luzzzy defeats Weisner, locks up second title & Women's Sunday Special for $4,375.51

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgFor several months, the guarantee for the weekly Women's Sunday tournament was set at $7K, yet oftentimes the prize pool eclipsed $10K. So what better way to thank the players and celebrate the female players on PokerStars than to offer a Special Edition of the Women's Sunday?

The October 16 tournament offered a $15K guarantee, along with $100 Pro bounties and $11 satellite tickets to every single player for a PS Women PCA satellite. We hoped for a good turnout, but we had no idea how phenomenal it would be. PokerStars' female players came out in strong force, and the numbers climbed and climbed during the late registration period. The prize pool soared above the $20K mark, and the PokerStars Women crew beamed with pride at the final numbers when registration closed:

Total players: 463
Prize pool: $23,150.00
Paid finishers: 72

What an amazing turnout!

Going forward, starting with next week's Women's Sunday, the regular guarantee will be set at $10,000. Keep it up with these fields, however, and we'll have to raise it even more!

One of the bonuses today was the aforementioned $100 bounties on the PokerStars pros, and there were four said pros in the field. Team PokerStars Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo of Holland was the first to exit in the first hour of play, followed by Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome of Canada a short time later. Team Pro Celina Lin of Macao was also an early casualty of the tournament.

Still standing was Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander of Belgium, who was in top chip position at one point but took some beats to fall to the bottom of the counts. She put her short stack at risk with Q-J against two other players and found A-Q-Q-8-8 on the board for a full house to triple up. But two hands later, she risked it all again, that time with A♦7♠ against the Q♠Q♦ of trout3344. Queens were not her friend in this hand when the board came Q♣T♠8♠K♣A♠, and trout3344 collected $100 for sending Van Brabander to the rail in 138th place.

It was approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes into action that the money bubble burst, courtesy of 73rd place finisher cassie13. Lazygrrrl became the first player to cash for $76.39, and play moved forward.

Just past the 3.5 hour mark, two tables of players found themselves in hand-for-hand action, at which point mrsbeer moved all-in from early position. DULCESPERANZ moved all-in to isolate, which worked, and showed A♦K♠. Mrsbeer was on the line with A♥Q♦ and failed to improve on the 7♠3♥5♠2♥5♥ board. Tenth place money of $277.80 went to mrsbeer.

Lolimiraflor leads, luzzzy looks for second title

In Level 20, with blinds at 3,000/6,000 and a 600 ante, the final table was set as follows:

Seat 2: lolimiraflor (286,069 in chips)
Seat 3: luzzzy (227,409 in chips)

Seat 5: Chiablo (216,866 in chips)
Seat 6: helena.stepa (67,596 in chips)

The very first hand of the table found big action as helena.stepa moved all-in from early position. LeveLKeule pushed all-in over the top, and everyone else folded. Helena.stepa showed A♣5♥ for her tournament life, and LeveLKeule showed 8♦8♣. The board came J♥J♠T♠Q♦2♣ for two pair, and helena.stepa was gone in ninth place with $354.19.

Shortly after, DULCESPERANZ made the all-in move for more than 190K. Chiablo reraised all-in for a few thousand more, and original raiser luzzzy folded. Chiablo had A♦K♠, and DULCESPERANZ showed J♣J♠ for the race situation. But the very first card on the A♥6♦9♣T♦4♦ board gave Chiablo the pair of aces to eliminate DULCESPERANZ in eighth place with $520.87.

Callisto 5 takes over

Callisto 5 went on a charge, first doubling through new chip leader luzzzy. On the very next hand, Callisto 5 doubled again, this time through Chiablo:

Short-stacked schnaggebei pushed all-in with 8♦8♠, and Callisto 5 was on a roll, calling with A♠Q♥ and making a straight on the 2♣K♦J♣T♠9♦ board. The pocket pair of schnaggebei couldn't hold up, leaving her out in seventh place with $752.37.

Next up was L3Genden13, who moved all-in from early position with A♣T♥. Lolimiraflor reraised all-in with A♥J♥ and had her opponent covered. The flop of T♣8♦K♦ gave L3Genden13 the advantage with the pair of tens, and the 7♦ on the turn changed nothing. But the Q♣ on the river made a straight for lolimiraflor, who eliminated L3Genden13 in sixth place with $983.87.

Luzzzy tried to mount a comeback by doubling through lolimiraflor, but she remained the shortest stack of the five players. But another double through Chiablo put her in a better spot and Chiablo on the short stack.

But it was LeveLKeule who slowly but surely climbed into the top spot on the leaderboard. LeveLKeule started a hand with a raise, and Callisto 5 reraised. When lolimiraflor pushed all-in over the top, LeveLKeule was the caller holding A♠K♣. Lolimiraflor displayed Q♠Q♣, but the board came 9♣2♥A♣3♠A♥ for trip aces, and lolimiraflor exited in fifth place with $1,250.10.

Luzzzy back on the rise

Chiablo doubled through LeveLKeule to stay in action, and luzzzy made a big play in the following hand:

Luzzzy was feeling good and raised all-in from the small blind with A♣2♣. Chiablo called all-in from the big blind with Q♥Q♣, but the board of 2♦K♠2♥T♥T♦ gave luzzzy a full house. Chiablo had to leave in fourth place with $1,782.55.

LeveLKeule did manage to double back through luzzzy, but luzzzy then did it again through LeveLKeule.

And it was LeveLKeule who moved all-in soon after with K♠J♥, but Callisto 5 called with J♦J♣, and that hand only improved to two pair on the 8♠6♥Q♥Q♠9♦ board. LeveLKeule was eliminated in third place with $2,361.30.

Second title for luzzzy or first for Melanie Weisner

The heads-up battle began with these chip counts:

Seat 3: luzzzy (558,078 in chips)
Seat 8: Melanie "Callisto 5" Weisner (830,922 in chips)

And on the second hand of action, this luzzzy doubled through Callisto 5, but the latter doubled up a bit later to bring the stacks closer to even. Luzzzy then took a pot worth more than 450K to extend her lead again.

Callisto 5 sought another double-up and moved all-in with 9♦9♣. Luzzzy called with A♦2♥ and needed to find an out to win. The flop of 5♠3♠T♦ gave luzzzy the straight draw, and the 6♥ on the turn kept those hopes alive. The 4♠ hit on the river to make the six-high straight and eliminate Melanie "Callisto 5" Weisner in second place with $3,206.27.

Germany's luzzzy, who won a Women's Sunday title in March, grabbed a second title in the Special Edition today. And for winning the largest Women's Sunday to date, she took home $4,375.51 for the victory. Congrats!
