Mikalya88 makes victory happen in May 22 Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgSome things get better with time. Wine and scotch are perfect examples, and others might even put women in that category. (Okay, I'm quite possibly speaking for myself. Let's not dwell on that.) In any case, we can put the Women's Sunday tournament in the mix as well, as it just keeps getting better.

The Women's Sunday started on May 27 with a $5K guarantee and quickly became popular with the female players of PokerStars. Within a short period of time, the guarantee was raised to $7K. More satellites have been added over that time as well, with the last-chance $5.50 turbo and others peppering the satellite landscape on Sunday mornings, in addition to the daily qualifiers running all week long.

And now, those satellites are even better. Starting today, the Women's Sunday satellites have guaranteed seats. For example, the $11 qualifier on Sunday has 10 seats guaranteed, and the Last Chance $5.50 turbo qualifier has a minimum of 5 seats up for grabs. Going forward, all of the daily satellites will guarantee at least one seat. And, since that's not enough, there will also be a daily $1.10 turbo qualifier to each daily $11 satellite.

So many chances to win seats into the weekly $55 Women's Sunday at a fraction of the cost! (And don't forget that we're running our May Facebook freeroll next Saturday with a seat to the next Women's Sunday and 100 seats to the $5.50 Last Chance satellite.

With that exciting news released, let's get to the numbers for today's tournament:

Total players: 176
Prize pool: $8,800.00
Paid finishers: 27

With so much going on in the poker world, especially the exciting last tournaments of the 2011 SCOOP series, the field was missing a few Team PokerStars players. However, one who stepped up for the action was Germany's Katja Thater.

She ran into trouble early, though, and she finally pushed her short stack of 1,360 all-in preflop with K♦T♠. But the European Poker Tour's Michelle "Orpsterjet" Orpe called with A♣Q♣, which turned into a pair of queens on the 7♣Q♥J♦2♣5♠ board. Orpsterjet was awarded the $50 bounty for eliminating Team Pro Katja Thater.

It was a little over two hours into the tournament that the money bubble burst, as aquamint was eliminated in 28th place and SG3006 became the first player to cash for $88.00. Play continued and reached the last two tables just past the 2.5-hour mark and moved quickly toward the final table.

Solo Futte was on a very short stack and moved all-in for 410 chips preflop. Deliore and HUSTLheR0 were along for the ride and checked down the board of 6♠7♦2♦3♠6♣. HUSTLheR0 showed 8♠7♠ to collect the main and side pots, and Solo Futte simply mucked before leaving in tenth place with $154.00.

HUSTLheR0 and spoonface battle for the lead

It was in Level 17, with blinds at 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante, that the final table was set. Players' starting chip counts were as follows:

Seat 1: luckyno75 (60,295 in chips)
Seat 2: HUSTLheR0 (108,969 in chips)
Seat 3: deliore (34,381 in chips)
Seat 4: Mikalya88 (46,071 in chips)
Seat 5: temujin75 (42,540 in chips)
Seat 6: spoonface (107,494 in chips)
Seat 7: walivo (39,138 in chips)
Seat 8: ninganinga (43,900 in chips)
Seat 9: PamelaPM (45,212 in chips)

The table was packed with action, as walivo doubled through HUSTLheR0 and deliore did the same through ninganinga.

That left ninganinga ready to move all-in for just over 5K soon after, and PamelaPM called with A♣8♥. The K♥6♦ of ninganinga needed help but didn't receive it on the 7♦7♥7♣2♦J♥ board. That left ninganinga out in ninth place with $176.00.

Deliore doubled through PamelaPM, leaving the latter on a very short stack. PamelaPM moved all-in on the next hand, and deliore moved all-in over the top. Mikalya88 called all-in, and deliore had both players covered, but PamelaPM doubled on the main pot and Mikalya88 took the side pot to stay alive. PamelaPM then doubled through spoonface on the next hand.

The very next hand saw PamelaPM all-in again, and luckyno75 reraised all-in to isolate, which worked. PamelaPM showed A♣8♠, but luckyno75 had a dominating A♦K♦. The board of J♠4♠3♠ brought hope for a flush for PamelaPM, but the 7♦ and 4♦ failed to complete it. PamelaPM was out in eighth place with $264.00.

Deliore then decided to move all-in on the next hand with 62,153 chips holding A♦J♥. Mikalya88 moved all-in over the top with Q♦Q♥, and everyone else folded. The board came 2♥4♠2♠8♥3♥, and the queens reigned. Deliore departed in seventh place with $352.00.

Mikalya88 moves into the lead

Temujin was able to get off the short stack with a double through HUSTLheR0 and then another through walivo, the latter shown here:

Luckyno75 was the next to be at risk, shoving with T♣9♣, but Mikalya88 called from the big blind with A♠Q♦. The board blanked with 3♠8♦2♠6♣J♥, and the ace-high of Mikalya88 won the pot. Luckyno75 departed in sixth place with $440.00.

Shortly after, spoonface took a chance from the small blind with K♥7♣, but walivo happened to wake up with 9♣9♠ in the big blind to make the 47,018 call. The flop of 3♦6♣3♥ only added another pair, though the 7♠ on the turn gave spoonface some hope with the sevens. But the 6♥ on the river didn't change the outcome, and spoonface had to leave in fifth place with $528.00.

It was the short stacks turn to double. HUSTLheR0 did it through walivo and temujin75 did it through Mikalya88.

But HUSTLheR0 needed to do it again and made the attempt with A♦6♦. Walivo called with J♠J♦, and that pair held up to the 9♣7♥2♠5♥3♣ board. HUSTLheR0 was eliminated in fourth place with $770.00.

Temujin75 sought another double and tried it with A♦2♣ from the big blind. But original raiser Mikalya88 had K♥5♠ and rivered a pair when the board produced 4♦8♦9♥6♥5♥. Temujin75's ace-high was no longer good, and she departed in third place with $1,034.00.

A quick match at hand

The final two players started the battle with these chip stacks:

Seat 4: Mikalya88 (310,116 in chips)
Seat 7: walivo (217,884 in chips)

And on the second hand, walivo raised preflop, Mikalya88 reraised, and walivo called. The flop came 6♠J♣T♠, and Mikalya88 prompted pushed all-in. Walivo called all-in with K♠7♠ and the flush draw, but Mikalya88 had A♣Q♣ and the straight draw. The T♣ on the turn led to the K♦ on the river, which made a straight for Mikalya88. Walivo was out in second place with $1,364.00.
