Onkelchen23 catches victory and $2,310.85 in Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThere are many reasons for female poker players to compete in the weekly Women's Sunday tournament. The $7,000 guaranteed prize pool is a big draw, as well as the fact that it has been regularly eclipsing $10,000 and $11,000 with larger weekly fields. There are $50 bounties on all members of Team PokerStars. And there is the camaraderie and fun involved in the tournament itself.

Now, there is more incentive to play. The Women's WCOOP promotion offers the chance to win satellite tickets to the Steps program for the upcoming September WCOOP.

Anyone who makes the final table of a Women's Sunday tournament in August is awarded a Step 2 ticket, worth $27, that she can use to win a seat in any WCOOP tournament of her choice. And by playing WCOOP next month, every woman has the chance to become the highest ranking woman of the Series and win the $3,500 prize package to PS Women Live at the January PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas.

This week, another sizeable field of women took advantage of the Women's Sunday opportunities. The final numbers were:

Total players: 226
Prize pool: $11,300.00
Paid finishers: 36

The crowd included four players with the PokerStars logo next to their names, meaning they carried the $50 bounties on their heads for the players who were able to eliminate them.

The first one out was Team PokerStars Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo of Holland, and UK's Liv Boeree. In 110th place today was Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander.

And as the field thinned, Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was seen nearing the top of the leaderboard. Following up on her seventh place finish in last week's tournament, she made it to the top of this week's chip counts with five tables left. She kept that lead as the tournament reduced to four tables and then three, and finally two.

The final table approached quickly, and the positions of nearly everyone changed. Finally, hand-for-hand action led to Gabor0802 pushing all-in from the big blind with A♦Q♦, and original raiser Solo Futte called with 4♦4♠. The pair improved to a set on the J♥5♠7♠A♥4♥ board, and Gabor0802 left in tenth place with $180.80.

The final table was set as follows:

Seat 1: talonchick (72,949 in chips)
Seat 2: jamjars69 (133,033 in chips)
Seat 3: janet205 (31,960 in chips)
Seat 4: le0510 (94,538 in chips)
Seat 5: Solo Futte (55,048 in chips)
Seat 6: wartaalina12 (95,253 in chips)
Seat 7: alexia som (34,048 in chips)
Seat 8: onkelchen23 (63,866 in chips)
Seat 9: Nega1977 (97,305 in chips)

The very first hand of the final table saw action as jamjars69 and janet205 got involved from the blinds. They took a cheap flop of 4♦7♦2♣ and checked to the Q♣ on the turn. A bet from jamjars69 was called by janet205, and the 9♠ came on the river. Jamjars69 bet 24,000, and janet205 called all-in with J♦8♠. Jamjars69 showed Q♥9♦ for two pair and eliminated janet205 in ninth place with $214.70.

Alexia som pushed all-in preflop from the button, and onkelchen23 reraised all-in from the small blind. Nega1977 folded her big blind, and alexia som was at risk with A♥7♥ against the 9♠9♣ of onkelchen23. The board came Q♠5♥7♣8♦4♠, and the pair of nines took the pot. Alexia som exited in eighth place with $282.50.

Solo Futte doubled through Nega1977, and the latter moved all-in on the next hand with A♣J♠. Talonchick called with A♠K♠, and the K♥T♣2♣6♥3♠ board only improved her hand. Nega1977 was out of the tournament in seventh place with $395.50.

Talonchick then took a 106K pot from jamjars69 to retake the chip lead, but onkelchen23 proceeded to take a pot worth 142K from talonchick to take a substantial lead. Within a few hands after the 3.5-hour break, Solo Futte climbed over the 200K mark to take the lead. This was anyone's game.

Solo Futte tries to distance from the pack

With a lot of movement among the final six players, Solo Futte made another move that gave her a larger lead over the group. She got involved with wartaalina12 in what turned out to be a battle of the blinds. After the cheap flop of 5♦J♦8♦, Solo Futte bet, and wartaalina12 called. The 7♦ on the turn prompted a big bet from Solo Futte, and wartaalina12 called all-in for 26,403 with Q♦T♥ and the flush. Solo Futte showed 8♠5♣ for two pair, and the 8♣ on the river made it a full house. Wartaalina12 was out in sixth place with $508.50.

This double-up of talonchick through onkelchen23 gave the former some breathing room, but moments later, jamjars69 doubled through talonchick to stay in action. Onkelchen23 then came back to double through talonchick:

Talonchick was very short-stacked, and her 3,836 chips went all-in on the next hand. Jamjars69 called, but le0510 pushed all-in. Onkelchen23 called the two all-in players, and jamjars69 got out of the way. Talonchick was in with T♥8♥, le0510 was on the line with A♥2♣, and onkelchen23 showed J♦J♠. The board came A♣6♠A♠5♣K♦, and trip aces gave le0510 the double-up and all of the chips, as well as the $50 bounty. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome finished in fifth place in her second final table in two weeks, taking home $655.40 this week.

Onkelchen23 on a roll

Jamjars69 was the next player at risk, pushing all-in with Q♥Q♦. Onkelchen23 was there with K♥K♦, though, and the kings held on the 9♦J♦8♠3♠6♦ board. Jamjars69 was out of the tournament in fourth place with $960.50.

Three-handed action saw le0510 take down a 214,400-chip pot from Solo Futte to jump into the lead.

Eventually, Solo Futte got involved with onkelchen23. The two saw a limped flop of T♣K♠T♠. Onkelchen23 bet, and Solo Futte check-raised all-in for nearly 92K with K♣4♠ for top two pair. Onkelchen23 showed T♦2♣ for trip kings, and the A♣ and 8♣ ended the hand. Solo Futte exited in third place with $1,276.90.

Russia vs. Germany heads-up

The final two players and their starting chip counts were:

Seat 4: le0510 (290,938 in chips)
Seat 8: onkelchen23 (387,062 in chips)

Le0510 was the aggressor in the first few rounds and took the chip lead, though the two remained close in counts. Le0510 moved further ahead, but ten minutes later, onkelchen23 caught up.

The final hand began with a raise from onkelchen23 and call from le0510 to see the 2♦4♥3♦ flop. Le0510 bet, onkelchen23 raised, and le0510 called. The 3♣ on the turn prompted le0510 to move all-in. Onkelchen23 called with 3♠3♥ for quads, which handily beat the Q♣2♣ and deuces of le0510. The K♦ on the river made it official, and le0510 was eliminated in second place with $1,695.00.

Onkelchen23 of Germany won the Women's Sunday tournament and $2,310.85 in prize money. Congratulations!
