Spain succeeds second week running with e.v.a.81975 winning Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgRegular Women's Sunday competitors know that there are satellites running throughout the week for the $55 seats. There are three daily events - $11, $5.50, and $2.20 rebuy - that offer seats should enough women sign up to play. And Saturday offers a freeroll plus $1 rebuy qualifier for more chances to win.

And now there are more seats up for grabs. There are qualifiers offered on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for 500 Frequent Player Points. And now there are even more of those FPP satellites on Sundays prior to the start of the Women's Sunday.

Just today, there were enough interested players to run two 500 FPP qualifiers, one 700 FPP hyper turbo qualifier, and the usual $5.50 Last Chance turbo and Last $11 qualifier. In addition, enough women signed up for a $11.22 hyper turbo to give away an additional seat. There were more FPP options on the schedule, and as they become more popular, there will be more offered in the coming weeks.

For the regularly scheduled qualifiers, they are listed on the Women's Sunday home page. And keep an eye on the satellites listed in the PokerStars lobby in pink for even more offered each week.

Speaking of the Women's Sunday with its $7K guarantee, let's look at today's numbers:

Total players: 170
Prize pool: $8,500.00
Paid finishers: 27

The Team PokerStars Pro in the field today, offering a $50 bounty on her head, was Celina Lin of China. She stayed strong throughout the first hour of the tournament but eventually put her stack at risk with 9♥9♣ against the A♦K♠ of MaxNazhig. The board produced Q♦8♦A♣T♦A♠, and trip aces beat the nines. Celina lost the race and departed in 128th place.

The tournament played on, and by the two-hour mark, there were only five tables remaining. About 20 minutes later, the tension grew on the money bubble, which eventually burst with Oksana_Chess eliminated in 28th place, leaving Lisyonok as the first player to cash today, taking home $85.00 for 27th place.

Not long past the 2.5-hour clock stamp, the field was reduced to two tables. RMTorres was the first to make the money jump to $106.25, followed by mai-lis, and Buska007. Justine0691 (who won her seat in the last $11 qualifier today) exited in 15th place with $127.50, followed by WooieWinnie (who won her seat in the $5.50 Last Chance turbo), and cep27. Cy_Quest2806 finished in 12th for $148.75, and tinykitten10 (who also won a seat in the last $11 qualifier) took 11th place.

Hand-for-hand play lasted more than a few minutes, as caution was the word of the moment. But soon, pokerika77 raised and lydmila1936 put her to the test with an all-in move from the small blind. Pokerika77 made the call with K♣Q♦, and lydmila1936 showed 7♦7♥. The board of 6♦2♣5♣2♦3♥ allowed the pocket pair to hold, and pokerika77 departed in tenth place with $148.75.

Can lydmila1936's lead last?

Action was in Level 18, with blinds at 2,000/4,000 and a 400 ante when play got underway, and the players' starting stacks were as follows:

Seat 1: dragon1122 (96,736 in chips)
Seat 2: Cirkel (16,388 in chips)
Seat 3: PopcaanArtis (48,625 in chips)
Seat 4: e.v.a.81975 (48,232 in chips)
Seat 5: lydmila1936 (123,797 in chips)
Seat 6: batoon635 (35,185 in chips)
Seat 7: krs4u (56,331 in chips)
Seat 8: Tianora (46,870 in chips)
Seat 9: Pacinka (37,836 in chips)

The answer to that question is no. Shorter stacked Cirkel and e.v.a.81975 both managed double-ups through lydmila1936 at the start of final table action, and lydmila1936 lost her lead.

Pacinka then made a move from the small blind with 7♣7♥, and original raiser PopcaanArtis made the call with Q♣Q♥. The board only improved PopcaanArtis to a full house with 6♠J♠J♥Q♦5♠, and Pacinka was the first to go from the final table, taking with her $170.00 for ninth place.

Next at risk was Cirkel, who risked her short stack of 34,076 with A♣A♣, but it just so happened that dragon1122 was able to call with A♠A♥. Nothing about the 9♥8♣7♦2♦Q♠ could change the outcome. Cirkel, who qualified via the Last Chance $5.50 turbo satellite earlier today, departed with $255.00 in cash for eighth place.

Dragon1122 strives to dominate

Krs4u and lydmila1936 battled back and forth, with the former doubling through, then lydmila1936 doubling back. That left krs4u looking to move again, and she did it with A♦J♥ from early position. Dragon1122 called with A♣K♥, and the kicker played when the 2♠6♥Q♣5♦3♥ board was displayed. Krs4u was out in seventh place with $340.00.

Tianora moved all-in with A♦7♠, and PopcaanArtis called from the big blind with A♥K♣. When the board of K♥5♥4♣8♥2♣ gave PopcaanArtis an even better hand, Tianora stepped off the stage with $425.00 for the sixth place finish.

Lydmila1936 doubled through dragon1122 and proceeded to soon move back into the chip lead, but the following double by batoon635 changed that.

Early chip leaders fall

That left lydmila1936 with less than 20K chips, which went all-in on the next hand with K♥5♣. Dragon1122 made the call from the big blind with A♣J♣, and the board of 8♥5♠3♥A♥8♣ gave both players two pair with dragon1122's being the higher ones. Lydmila1936 left in fifth place with $510.00.

Batoon635 soon lost ground as well. PopcaanArtis doubled through her, as did e.v.a.81975, which left batoon635 on a very short stack. Those chips were pushed all-in on the next hand, and PopcaanArtis and e.v.a.81975 both called. After the K♣6♠8♠ flop, e.v.a.81975 moved all-in, which prompted a check-fold from PopcaanArtis. E.v.a.81975 showed A♠K♥ for top pair, and batoon635 turned over J♠9♣ for the draw. The J♠ on the turn brought hope, but the 7♣ on the river ended it for batoon635, who took home $743.75 for fourth place.

Dragon1122 had one last breath of fire left and began to tangle with e.v.a.81975. A raise and call led them to the 3♠8♥4♦ flop, and more action ultimately led to e.v.a.81975 moving all-in. Dragon1122 called for her tournament life with K♣8♠ for top pair, but the A♥A♠ of e.v.a.81975 dominated. The 3♦ and Q♦ finished the board and left dragon1122 out in third place with $998.75.

A solid heads-up battle

The last two women standing began heads-up play with these counts:

Seat 3: PopcaanArtis (226,820 in chips)
Seat 4: e.v.a.81975 (283,180 in chips)

PopcaanArtis climbed into the lead after taking down a pot worth more than 129K, but e.v.a.81975 slowly but surely chipped back into the top spot and never looked back.

Finally, PopcaanArtis shoved with 2♣2♥ and only 55,220 chips, and e.v.a.81975 called with A♦4♥. The board produced 6♠5♣7♣8♦K♠ for the turned straight, leaving PopcaanArtis out in second place with $1,317.50.

E.v.a.81975 of Spain wins this week's event and $1,827.50 in prize money. Congratulations!
