Teresita82 takes June 19 Women's Sunday title for Spain

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThe Women's Sunday tournament is a special weekly event that offers the women of PokerStars a chance at a larger-than-usual guarantee. But the Women's Sunday is one part of a larger community that includes many more opportunities for female poker players to compete in a friendly environment and enjoy the game as they become better players.

PokerStars Women has a number of promotions, including the Women's Poker League, which offers the chance to compete at the $.10 level or the $1.10 level. Top points earners each month win cash, and everyone works toward an annual league ranking to win even more cash and prizes.

The community continues to grow, with Facebook pages - PS Women and Women's Poker League - and a Twitter feed that provide information about women in poker, opportunities to win points and tournament seats, and a way to form friendships with other women in the game. We also hope you'll let us know what we can do to make your PokerStars experience better over time!

For now, let's get to the task at hand. It was the Women's Sunday of June 19 with a $7K guarantee, and the final numbers after an extra hour of registration were:

Total players: 188
Prize pool: $9,400.00
Paid finishers: 27

Among the many players vying for this week's title was one Team PokerStars Pro, Holland's own Fatima Moreira de Melo. She started strong and maintained position in the top half of the field, but just after the first hour of play completed, she found herself out in 109th place. The player who eliminated her walked away with an extra $50.

But many more women remained in action. Nearly 2.5 hours into the tournament, the money bubble neared, and simiel11, who won her seat in the Last Chance $5.50 turbo satellite today, became the unfortunate bubble player out in 28th place. That left minimum payments of $94.00 to ship to players like rlouisex for 27th place and cep27 in 26th.

Play continued, and by the time the third hour was in full swing, there were only two tables still running, and the field was thinning at a rapid pace.

Only minutes after the 3-hour mark, Kogle380 risked her short stack with A♣T♦, but SaCmls24 called with A♥J♦, and the better hand only improved on the 9♥K♠3♥6♣J♠ board. Kogle380 missed out on another final table and accepted $164.50 for tenth place in this week's event.

13RusPro77 leads in run for second win

With play toward the end of Level 17 that provided blinds of 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante, the final table got underway as follows:

Seat 1: JoNikity (86,776 in chips)
Seat 2: Teresita82 (66,943 in chips)
Seat 3: manusuesse (28,848 in chips)
Seat 4: 13RusPro77 (139,565 in chips)
Seat 5: LeeSandra (37,809 in chips)
Seat 6: kluni82 (24,724 in chips)
Seat 7: Traxa07 (46,391 in chips)
Seat 8: Ururoma (16,939 in chips)
Seat 9: SaCmIs24 (116,005 in chips)

Only a few hands into the action, Ururoma put her short stack to the test with A♠K♣ from the small blind. JoNikity, who originally limped in, made the call with K♥8♥ and caught an eight on the T♥2♥8♣ flop. The turn of 9♠ and river of 7♦ changed nothing, and Ururoma was gone in ninth place with $188.00.

Then a very big hand developed. Teresita82 raised, and manusuesse, 13RusPro77, and LeeSandra all called to see the 4♥J♣9♥ flop. LeeSandra led out with an all-in bet holding J♠2♠ for top pair, and manusuesse called all-in with K♠Q♠ for the straight draw. Teresita82 folded out of the way, and 13RusPro77 check-called with 4♣4♦ for the flopped set. The 7♠ on the turn changed nothing, but the J♦ on the river gave 13RusPro77 the full house. Manusuesse left in eighth place with $282.00, and LeeSandra - at her second final table in two weeks - exited in seventh with $376.00.

Teresita82 treks to top of leaderboard

Teresita82 then found a huge double-up opportunity through JoNikity here:

JoNikity was left with a short stack and was all-in on the next hand with K♥4♦ in the small blind. Teresita82 called from the big blind with Q♣T♥, and that hand only improved to a pair on the 9♥J♥5♦Q♥A♦ board. JoNikity was out in sixth place with $470.00.

Kluni82 worked a short stack for some time, and a double-up through 13RusPro77 helped. But kluni82 soon moved all-in again, this time from the small blind with 5♠3♥. Traxa07 called from the big blind with Q♦Q♠, and the board of 8♦9♥2♦2♣T♦ ended the tournament for kluni82, who finished the event in fifth place with $564.00.

Traxa07 doubled through SaCmIs24 to stay in the game, and SaCmIs24 then doubled through 13RusPro77. And suddenly the former chip leader was at the bottom of the chip counts. But 13RusPro77 climbed back off the short stack in the first hand after the 3.5-hour break.

Traxa07 made another move. The all-in came after a raise by 13RusPro77, and Traxa07 moved all-in with A♦J♠. 13RusPro77 called with Q♣Q♦, and that pair held up as the dealer produced 6♦K♠T♦8♦3♥. That left Traxa07 out in fourth place with $822.50 in prize money.

SaCmIs24 was the next to get involved. All three players went to see the 7♠6♦T♦ flop, at which point 13RusPro77 bet and SaCmIs24 raised. Teresita82 reraised all-in, which prompted a fold from 13RusPro77. SaCmIs24 called all-in with T♣6♣ for two pair, but and Teresita82 showed 7♣6♠ for a lesser two pair. But after the A♠ on the turn, the 7♥ appeared on the river to give Teresita82 the full house and eliminate SaCmIs24 in third place with $1,104.50.

Two former final tablists battle

Teresita82 took her chip lead to the final table, but 13RusPro77 as a former champion wasn't far behind when the battle began:

Seat 2: Teresita82 (300,389 in chips)
Seat 4: 13RusPro77 (263,611 in chips)

13RusPro77 did quickly take the lead in the match, but Teresita82 turned that around with this hand:

On the very next hand, 13RusPro77 pushed all-in with Q♠J♥, and Teresita82 called with K♣T♥. The board of 5♣3♦8♦A♥3♥ left the king as the kicker, and 13RusPro77, who won the June 5 Women's Sunday was forced to accept second place and the $1,457.00 that went with it.

Teresita82 of Spain, who finished ninth at the May 8 Women's Sunday final table, finally achieved victory and took home $2,021.00 for it. Congratulations!
