-JullySL- wins Women's Sunday, denies lulilla second title

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgJanuary was a big month. It started with the celebration of 2012 and a winding down from the holidays, and the last Sunday of the month ended with a big Women's Sunday tournament that provided poker excitement through to the very last hand.

The month is not over, though. The Women's Poker League is in its first month of the year with three divisions, and the races are heating up. The current rankings, updated daily, are listed on this page. And to join in at any time, the details of the WPL can be found at this link.

For today, it was all about the Women's Sunday, and the final numbers were:

Total players: 279
Prize pool: $13,950.00
Paid finishers: 45

There were five bounties in today's tournament, all proudly wearing the PokerStars logo next to their names and offering $50 to those able to knock them out of the game. Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander was the first to be eliminated today, followed shortly thereafter by Team PokerStars Pros Liv Boeree and Fatima De Melo. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome held on for a bit longer but finished in 139th place.

Still going strong was Team Pro Vanessa Selbst. Throughout the third hour of play, she climbed and cleared the top ten at the three-hour mark with only two tables remaining in action.

With the eliminations of Drag0nflye in 12th place and pkrbadgirl in 11th place, hand-for-hand play led to another quick bustout. Vanessa Selbst moved all-in for 58,243 chips from the small blind, and sigiziy called with 9♠9♦. Selbst looked solid for a double-up with T♦T♥, even as the flop came 2♦2♣6♥ and the turn 4♠. But the 9♣ hit on the river to eliminate Selbst in tenth place with $209.25. Sigiziy took the $50 bounty for that elimination.

Justine0691 promptly doubled through Pindogis to stay in action. Sunshine9280 doubled through chv84 as well, while lulilla climbed into the chip lead.

Pindogis then doubled through sunshine9280, leaving the latter in a tough spot. Sunshine9280 moved all-in on the next hand with A♥K♦, and sigiziy called from the big blind with Q♦Q♥. The queens held up to the 3♣T♣8♠2♣8♣ board, and sunshine9280 had to leave in ninth place with $244.12.

Just after the 3.5-hour break, Justine0691 made her all-in push again, this time with J♠6♠ from the big blind. Original raiser Ö_ö °Mopsi°° called with A♣2♣ and not only hit an ace on the 3♣A♥3♦ flop but made a straight when the 4♦ and 5♦ completed the board. Justine0691 departed in eighth place with $334.80.

Sigiziy then took over. The hand started with chsv84 pushing all-in for 75,961 chips. Pindogis called all-in for 35,508, and sigiziy called and covered both players from the small blind.

sigizy: 4♥4♣
chsv84: A♠T♣
Pindogis: A♦Q♥

The board produced J♠6♣A♣6♥4♦ to give sigiziy the full house. Pindogis left in seventh place with $474.30, and chsv84 followed in sixth place with $613.80.

Acumen plus was the next player to move all-in, and she did it with J♦J♥. Original raiser called with K♣K♠, though, and that only improved to a full house on the 4♦3♣4♣K♥7♣ board. Acumen plus was out in fifth place with $795.15.

Ö_ö °Mopsi°° doubled through sigizy, but the next double-up through sigizy gave -JullySL- a dominating chip lead:

Sigizy and -JullySL- then battled in the blinds. Sigiziy raised from the small with A♣8♠, and -JullySL- called from the big with a dominating A♦K♦. The board came 2♥2♦4♦6♦6♠, and -JullySL- improved to a flush to eliminate sigiziy in fourth place with $1,150.87.

Ö_ö °Mopsi°° opened with an all-in raise for 76K and met a raiser in -JullySL-, who had A♠T♦. Ö_ö °Mopsi°° showed 2♦2♥, but the flop of 3♣K♠A♥ gave -JullySL- top pair. The 8♣ and 7♣ finished the board and the tournament for Ö_ö °Mopsi°°, who took home $1,534.50 for third place.

Lulilla tries for second title

The final two players began their heads-up match as follows:

Seat 7: -JullySL- (723,654 in chips)
Seat 8: lulilla (113,346 in chips)

But lulilla only lost ground, finally moving all-in with K♣7♥ and 64,346 chips. -JullySL- called with K♦T♥, and though neither player hit anything on the 8♦A♠Q♥4♣5♦ board, -JullySL-'s kickers played and ended the game. Former Women's Sunday champion lulilla from Spain took second place today for $2,022.75.
