A VIP win of $5,236.15 for RiusVIP in the Women's Sunday First Birthday
Happy Birthday to us! We wanted to celebrate with all of our players and fans, so we doubled the guarantees and bounties for this special birthday Women's Sunday. And the response was fantastic! After a week of celebratory freerolls and today's live web chat, this was icing on our PokerStars Women cake. (This cake, by the way, was the winning photo in our Flickr competition, and Marjamma won a $215 Sunday Million ticket for baking this for us.)
Today's web chat went better than we could have imagined, with more than 2,584 viewers and 1,683 comments. With Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowesome and Team Pro Celina Lin answering questions and interacting with fans, it was a whirlwind of an hour. We gave away some PokerStars women's t-shirts to trivia winners, announced all of the winners of the Flickr competition, and gave the password to a special $1K freeroll.
And to wrap things up, we announced the big official launch of the Women's Tuesday 6-max NLHE tournament, which will happen this Tuesday, March 27 at 15:00 ET with a $1K guarantee. Satellites will run for as little as $1.10, and all who register for this week's tournament will receive a $5.50 satellite ticket as a bonus.
If you missed it, you can replay the web chat at your leisure.
And on top of everything, the Women's Sunday event numbers today were simply outstanding! The $20K guarantee and $100 bounties on the Team Pros attracted quite the field:
Total players: 557
Prize pool: $27,850.00
Paid finishers: 81
The Team Pros were everywhere in this tournament, though the first to find herself on the rail was Celina Lin. Fellow Team Asia Pro Vivian Im followed her to the rail in short order. Team Pro Liv Boeree exited soon after in 362nd place, and Vanessa Selbst also took leave of her virtual seat, leaving in 304th place. Team Pro Sandra Naujoks finished at about the 1.5-hour mark in 246th place, and Fatima Moreira de Melo was not far behind in 231st. And Team Pro Ana Marquez was eliminated in 116th place, just around the end of the second hour.
The bubble burst about 2 hours and 40 minutes into the event, as AJIEHA had the unfortunate distinction of finishing in 82nd place. That left vikulinka as the first player to cash, taking home $80.76 for the 81st place finish. A bit later, the 54th place finish of expert fox was the first of the payouts to exceed $100, and play moved along quickly.
One of the two remaining PokerStars players in the field - Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander - soon put her tournament life on the line with A♠8♥, but she found herself up against the J♥J♣ of Daya. The board ran out 2♣7♥K♠3♠7♣, and Daya picked up a $100 bounty. Sjlot took home $125.32 for her 29th place finish.
That left Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome as the last PokerStars Pro standing, and she had lost some ground in the last few rounds. She finally pushed all-in with A♠4♥ on a Q♠Q♥7♦ flop, but gygygygy called with Q♦T♦. The trip queens remained the best hand, and gygygygy grabbed the $100 bounty. Talonchick departed in 26th place with $154.56.
The final two tables began just as players returned from the 3.5-hour break, and action was fairly slow with the bigger-than-usual final table payouts looming. Eventually, the 12th place elimination of SickMagiC and 11th place exit of vayacondiaz made way for hand-for-hand play. It was soon after that dragon1122 of Austria was eliminated in tenth place with $320.27.
MyFlyIsOpen_ has the lead and funniest screen name
The starting chip stacks at the final table were:
Seat 1: upo4kaSpb (271,033 in chips)
Seat 2: Dayá (237,282 in chips)
Seat 3: MyFlyIsOpen_ (472,146 in chips)
Seat 4: Ja707_CZ (123,553 in chips)
Seat 5: CTPEKO3A_AA (183,580 in chips)
Seat 6: durtcom (58,208 in chips)
Seat 7: Vio Huntress (70,933 in chips)
Seat 8: gygygygy (105,392 in chips)
Seat 9: RiusVip (148,873 in chips)
It only took a few hands for short-stacked durtcom to make a move and double through MyFlyIsOpen_, and when Daya took a big pot from the latter, the lead went to Daya.
Gygygygy found her spot and moved all-in from middle position. Upo4kaSpb called, but Daya then pushed all-in from the button. Up04kaSpb called all-in, and Daya had both players covered.
The board came 8♦6♠Q♥T♦5♦, and Daya's kings held up to eliminate gygygygy in ninth place with $417.75 and up04kaSpb in eighth with $626.62.
On the very next hand, Vio Huntress pushed all-in with Q♥J♠, and RiusVip reraised all-in to isolate, which worked. RiusVip showed A♦K♦, and nothing came on the 5♦3♦7♥4♣3♥ board to change anything. RiusVip collected chips while Vio Huntress exited in seventh place with $905.12.
CTPEKO3A_AA was the next player to risk her tournament life. It started with a raise from the button, but when RiusVip reraised all-in from the big blind, CTPEKO3A_AA called all-in holding K♥Q♠. RiusVip showed 9♦9♠, and the race was on. The dealer gave them 5♠7♥T♥8♦A♣ ended that race with the pocket pair intact, and CTPEKO3A_AA had to leave the party in sixth place with $1,183.62.
The next hand saw Ja707_CZ move all-in with K♣J♣, but Daya was able to call from the big blind with a dominating A♦J♦. There was no king on the 8♣J♥4♣5♠Q♠ board, and that left Ja707_CZ out in fifth place with $1,487.19.
MyFlyIsOpen_ seemed to have no fear and moved all-in quite a few times during four-handed action. But it was durtcom who did it and found a caller. Durtcom shoved with J♠T♦ from her big blind, but original raiser Daya called with K♣K♠. The first four cards came 7♥6♥Q♦A♥ to give durtcom hopes of a straight, but the 2♣ on the river dashed those hopes. Durtcom, one of the winners of our Women's Birthday Flickr competition, took home $2,116.60 for her fourth place finish today.
MyFlyIsOpen_ continued her moves and got involved with RiusVip on a raised flop of T♣J♥6♦. RiusVip bet, and MyFlyIsOpen_ check-raised all-in with Q♣9♦ for the draw. RiusVip called with 6♣6♠ for the set of sixes, which held up to the 2♠ river card to eliminate MyFlyIsOpen_ in third place with $2,812.85.
Portugal vs. Estonia for the big win
The final two players displayed these starting stacks:
Seat 2: Dayá (974,676 in chips)
Seat 9: RiusVip (696,324 in chips)
RiusVip fought and eventually took the lead with this important double-up:
Daya was short stacked and fought for a few hands. The final hand then started with a raise from Daya and call from RiusVip to see a J♦A♥3♦ flop. Daya bet, and RiusVip check-raised. Daya moved all-in for 249,552 with A♣4♠ for top pair, and RiusVip called with Q♦J♠ for middle pair. But the J♣ showed up on the turn for trip jacks, and the 8♣ on the river ended the hand. Daya of Estonia had to accept second place and $3,815.45.
RiusVip of Portugal claimed the largest Women's Sunday first prize in its one-year history. Congratulations!
Thanks to everyone who has supported the Women's Sunday in its first year! Happy Birthday to all of us!
