Asteisa claims Women's Sunday title for Lithuania

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgWhat's exciting about June 24? There was a pretty big soccer game on television, for those inclined to cheer for England or Italy. It was the last Sunday in June. It brought another edition of the Women's Sunday, of course. Oh, and it was the kickoff of satellites to win PS Women prize packages to Barcelona in August!

We can officially announce that there will be a PokerStars Women Live event at EPT Barcelona, and the €500 Ladies Event will take place on August 18 and 19. Let the preparations begin!

The best thing to do, at this point, is to start working the satellite program for this event. We are awarding at least one prize package every Sunday going forward, and each package is worth €2,000. That includes enough money for the tournament buy-in, three nights for you and a guest at the Hotel Arts Barcelona, and €720 for travel expenses. Start with the daily €2.20 satellites to win a seat into the daily €22 satellites. There will also be €74 hyper-sats on Sundays, all leading to the €215 qualifiers each Sunday.

Win a trip to Barcelona for €2.20? Yes, you can. The website will be updated very soon with all of the details.

Meanwhile, let's look at our Women's Sunday numbers today:

Total players: 206
Prize pool: $10,300.00
Paid finishers: 36

The first of the Team PokerStars Pros in the field today exited not long after the action got underway. Team Pro Celina Lin, who recently had a little success in Macau, can't win everything this week, right?

The other three PokerStars bounties, each offering $50 for their individual knockouts, were still going strong as the money bubble approached. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was the chip leader, and Team Pro Vivian Im and Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander were in the top 10. Sjlot lost some chips on the bubble, but all three players did sail right into the money.

Sjlot put her short stack at risk against durrr085 and lost, putting her on the rail in 28th place with $77.25. Vivian was near the bottom of the counts when the field was reduced to two tables and pushed against ManPhisss. But pocket tens couldn't beat queens, and Vivian Im exited in 18th place with $113.30.

Talonchick? Still the chip leader, and by quite a large margin. She took a big hit when lady_IG doubled through her, but talonchick doubled back up into the top three.

As play moved on past the 3.5-hour break, former champion Sisa4ok was ousted in 12th place, followed by ManPhisss in 11th. Hand-for-hand play then led to an all-in move from Womble68 with A♦7♦, but 1989masha had A♥J♠. The board came A♣7♠Q♣J♦3♦ to eliminate Womble68 in tenth place with $164.80.

The action-packed final table began with these chip counts:

Seat 1: lady_IG (167,209 in chips)
Seat 2: durrr085 (34,634 in chips)
Seat 3: trout3344 (61,592 in chips)
Seat 4: Asteisa (101,382 in chips)
Seat 5: talonchick (27,757 in chips)
Seat 6: sierrka (27,879 in chips)
Seat 7: marioua89 (72,371 in chips)
Seat 8: 1989masha (42,849 in chips)
Seat 9: ShowMustG00n (82,327 in chips)

No one was wasting any time in this tournament. Talonchick had lost some chips prior to the final table and was one of the two short stacks when play began. Her 26,007 chips went all-in on the second hand of the table with 7♠7♦ from the button, and trout3344 called with K♠Q♣. The flop of 3♦A♠Q♠ gave trout3344 the pair of queens and the lead, and the 8♥ and T♦ ended the tournament for Team PokerStars Online player Adrienne "talonshick" Rowsome. As trout3344 took the $50 bounty, talonchick exited in ninth place with $195.70.

The very next hand saw the other short stack, sierrka, move all-in on the button with 5♥5♠, and again it was trout3344 who called with K♦Q♠. It was almost déjà vu as the flop came A♣T♦J♠ to give trout3344 the lead, this time with a straight, and that lead held up to the 2♦ turn and 7♥ river. Sierrka left in eighth place with $257.50.

Three hands after that, durrr085 moved all-in from the big blind. Original raiser ShowMustG00n from the button reraised all-in, and lady_IG folded her small blind. ShowMustG00n showed A♠T♠, which dominated the A♣9♦ of durrr085. The boar dof J♣4♠J♠6♥3♠ only improved ShowMustG00n to a flush, and durrr085 had to leave in seventh place with $360.50.

Marioua89 was the next player all-in, doing it from the small blind with T♣T♥. But Asteisa showed up with K♠K♣, and that hand remained the best as the board came 4♣3♥9♠6♥3♠. Marioua89 departed in sixth place with $463.50.

Masha1989 had a tough time but doubled through trout3344 to stay in action. But the two tangled again soon after. It started with a raise from trout3344 and all-in reraise from 1989masha in the small blind. Trout3344 called with J♣J♦, and 1989masha had to show T♣T♦. Nothing about the board of 3♦K♠8♥K♦3♠ changed the outcome, and 1989masha had to leave the game in fifth place with $597.40.

Play finally slowed with the final four, and caution took hold as chips changed hands. Trout3344 suffered more than the others, though, and finally made her move with A♠7♠. It just so happened that Asteisa called with A♦8♥. There were no sevens on the 6♦K♠9♦4♥A♥ board, leaving trout3344 out in fourth place with $875.50.

Three-handed play saw lady_IG make a run for it and stay in contention with this double-up:

But lady_IG was still short and had to move again soon after. She tangled with Asteisa again, and the two saw a reraised flop of 5♠9♦9♠. Lady_IG moved all-in with 6♥6♣, but Asteisa called with 8♦8♥. the 7♥ and Q♠ cards finished the hand and left lady_IG out in third place with $1,163.90.

Only a few hands of heads-up

The two finalists took their places with these stacks:

Seat 4: Asteisa (453,085 in chips)
Seat 9: ShowMustG00n (164,915 in chips)

On the fourth hand, a raise from ShowMustG00n and call from Asteisa took them to a J♦5♣6♦ flop. ShowMustG00n bet, and Asteisa check-raised. ShowMustG00n reraised all-in with J♠9♥, but Asteisa called with K♣J♥ and the higher kicker. The 4♥ on the turn and 6♥ on the river didn't change the outcome, as ShowMustG00n had to accept second place and the $1,545.00 that went with it.

Asteisa won the tournament and received $2,106.35 to go with the title. Congrats!
