Cosita Rica captures May 27 Women's Sunday title

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThe end of May is upon us, which means there was only this one chance remaining to win a Women's Sunday title this month. And only days remain in the Women's Poker League to cash in on the monthly prizes set aside for leaderboard winners. Congratulations to those who won big in May!

Meanwhile, let's take a look at the numbers for the last Women's Sunday in May:

Total players: 204
Prize pool: $10,200.00
Paid finishers: 36

There were two members of Team PokerStars in the field today, each carrying a $50 bounty. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was the first of the two to be eliminated, and it was Player 3 who took the bounty. Rowsome tweeted the bustout by linking to the Boom! Hand Replayer here, which allows everyone to see how the hand played out.

Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin was the next one to go, and she departed in 85th place. Play moved toward the money, and that bubble burst when 83Nemo busted in 37th place, allowing domilid to be the first to cash out for $75.37 in 36th place.

By the 3.5-hour mark, there were only two tables remaining, but it took about 30 minutes to get to hand-for-hand play on the final table bubble. Then it happened quickly, when silvitaeard was all-in with A♥5♦ against the A♣T♣ of Mauresmo1. The board came 9♣J♠5♥T♠7♠, and silvitaeard took home $160.80 for tenth place.

Mauresmo1 leads at the start

The final table then began with these chip counts:

Seat 1: e.v.a.81975 (18,218 in chips)
Seat 2: rüdiger1958 (70,782 in chips)
Seat 3: LaliTournier (81,586 in chips)
Seat 4: aldram (59,948 in chips)
Seat 5: Mauresmo1 (114,597 in chips)
Seat 6: sylwialz80 (58,792 in chips)
Seat 7: KongFuPandaG (34,846 in chips)
Seat 8: vai-q-bate88 (76,386 in chips)
Seat 9: Cosita Rica (87,845 in chips)

The second hand of action provided the first elimination of the table. When Cosita Rica raised from middle position, e.v.a.81975 reraised all-in for 16,468 chips from the button. Cosita Rica called with A♦Q♣, which dominated the A♣J♦ of e.v.a.81975. The former Women's Sunday champion found no jack on the 8♣A♥2♣4♦6♣ board and had to leave in ninth place with $190.95.

The next player at risk was sylwialz80, who got involved with Cosita Rica to see a raised flop of 4♣K♦6♥. Both players checked to see the J♥ on the turn, at which point Cosita Rica bet and sylwialz80 raised all-in with A♦J♠. But the pair of jacks was no good when Cosita Rica called with A♥A♠ for the overpair, which stayed good as the 8♠ came on the river. Sylwialz80 exited in eighth place with $251.25.

Aldram moved next, doing so preflop with A♠Q♠ from middle position. Original UTG raiser Cosita Rica called with 5♣5♠, and that hand only improved to a set on the 3♣8♦4♦5♥T♠ board. Aldram left in seventh place with $351.75.

Some double-ups changed the chip counts quite a bit, as rudiger1958 doubled through Mauresmo1 and vai-q-bate88 did the same through rudiger1958. But it was KongFuPandaG who doubled through Cosita Rica once, and then again to jump into second place. That second double-up is here:

Rudiger1958 had a tough time at the final table and was prepared to try for another double. The all-in move came in the small blind after Cosita Rica raised on the button. Rudiger1958 pushed with 7♠7♥, and Cosita Rica called with K♥Q♥, but the first card on the [Ks3♣5♥ flop gave the latter the best hand. The 6♠ and A♣ finished the board and left rudiger1958 out in sixth place with $452.25.

LaliTournier doubled through Cosita Rica and then through vai-q-bate88, and the latter one left vai-q-bate88 on a short stack. Her last 20,000 chips went all-in soon after with J♣9♠, and Cosita Rica called from the big blind with T♥7♣. The board produced J♠A♣Q♦2♠K♥, giving Cosita Rica the straight and leaving vai-q-bate88 out in fifth place with $582.90.

LaliTournier was the short stack of the final four and moved all-in again, this timew ith A♥9♠. Original raiser Cosita Rica called with A♣K♦ and only improved on the K♣5♥7♥2♠Q♦ board. That put LaliTournier on the virtual rail with $854.25 for the fourth place finish.

Mauresmo1 doubled through Cosita Rica, and KongFuPandaG went after the same result. The all-in move was made by KongFuPandaG with Q♦Q♥, and Cosita Rica was right along with A♥Q♠. The flop of 2♦A♣J♥ changed it all, though, to give Cosita Rica the pair of aces, and those stood up to the 7♣ on the turn and 8♣ on the river. KongFuPandaG was out in third place with $1,135.65.

Unstoppable Cosita Rica

The initial heads-up chip counts were:

Seat 5: Mauresmo1 (132,054 in chips)
Seat 9: Cosita Rica (470,946 in chips)

Over the course of only a few hands, Mauresmo1 was chipped down to less than 80K chips, and that soon went all-in with A♦J♠ preflop. Cosita Rica called with 9♠7♠, picked up a straight draw on the 6♥K♦T♠ flop, and hit the 7♦ for a pair on the turn. The 5♥ finished it with Mauresmo1 out in second place with $1,507.50.

Cosita Rica of Panama won the Women's Sunday and $2,055.33 in cash. Congratulations!
