Lelya127 of Russia claims $3,089.59 and Women's Sunday title

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgPokerStars Women is looking forward to March. Obviously, spring weather will be nice, but there's a little something happening next month that will be even more special. While we can't leak the details now, let's just say that the Women's Sunday will have its first birthday in March. But you already knew that, right? It's on your calendars, certainly.

Keep your eyes on the PokerStars blog for more information in the coming days and weeks. We're bursting at the seams to tell you some of the great things we have planned!

Meanwhile, we had the excitement of a rather well-attended Women's Sunday today! The final numbers were the best of 2012 thus far:

Total players: 322
Prize pool: $16,100.00
Paid finishers: 54

The action was fast and furious, and one of the first casualties was Team PokerStars Sports Star Fatima Moreira de Melo. Team Pro Ana Marquez joined the tournament as well but hit the rail soon after.

Well into the third hour and just past the money bubble, Team Pro Celina Lin exited in 47th place, and she tweeted, "Just busted Women's Sunday. Had AA vs QQ all in pre, opponent of course makes quad Qs! Yikes." Moments later, Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome shoved her short stack to no avail and left in 43rd place.

Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander was the last member of the PokerStars team standing, as well as the last chance a player to grab a $50 knockout bounty.

Charlotte also left the party inside that hour, grabbing $88.55 for her 37th place finish.

At the end of the third hour, three tables remained in action, but they were quickly reduced to two. With the eventual eliminations of Owelie in 12th place and xhedyx in 11th, hand-for-hand play started just after the half-hour break. That led to some cautious play until Doomi4ka moved all-in from the big blind. Original raiser luna1094 called from the small blind with K♥K♣, and Doomi4ka showed A♥7♠. No ace came on the 3♥T♦Q♥J♥9♠ board, and Doomi4ka left in tenth place with $209.30.

Zsharky sinks teeth into chip lead

The final table began in the first half of Level 20 with blinds of 3,000/6,000 and a 600 ante. Players' starting stacks were as follows:

Seat 1: luna1094 (158,724 in chips)
Seat 2: franzi59 (143,030 in chips)
Seat 3: ruby8578 (76,938 in chips)
Seat 4: bubbajojo92 (48,025 in chips)
Seat 5: zsharky (167,442 in chips)
Seat 6: acesalice (121,162 in chips)
Seat 7: le0510 (47,173 in chips)
Seat 8: sdm302808 (90,637 in chips)
Seat 9: Lelya127 (112,869 in chips)

Though zsharky was the first player to climb above 200K in chips, luna1094 was close behind. When sdm302808 moved all-in with A♥Q♣, luna1094 called with A♣K♣, which held up to the 8♣9♠4♦K♦Q♥ board. Sdm302808 was gone in ninth place with $267.26, and luna1094 took over the chip lead.

A few hands later, le0510 pushed her short stack all-in with 7♥7♦, and zsharky was there with Q♠T♥. The board came 6♦T♣K♠J♥8♦ to give zsharky the better pair, and le0510 took off in eighth place with $362.25.

Bubbajojo92 made a move and was able to double through acesalice. Shortly after, bubbajojo92 made another move, that time for 89,150 chips with T♣T♥. Franzi59 called with A♦A♣, though, and those aces held up to the 4♠J♠2♥5♥K♦ board. Bubbajojo92 ended her tournament in seventh place with $523.25.

Acesalice wasn't long after losing the hand to bubbajojo92 and pushed all-in with J♠J♦, hoping for her own double-up. Ruby8578 was along for the ride with A♠9♦ but caught the first card on the A♦5♥5♣ flop. The 4♠ on the turn and T♦ on the river gave ruby8578 the best hand and eliminated acesalice in sixth place with $684.25.

Lelya127 doubled through luna1094 to stay in the game, but a bit later, this double-up through zsharky put her in the chip lead:

Then it was franzi59's turn to take over. When ruby8578 moved all-in from the small blind, original raiser franzi59 called with Q♣J♦, which dominated the Q♥T♦ of ruby8578. The board of 5♦6♦9♥3♣6♥ changed nothing, and ruby8578 exited in fifth place with $901.60.

On the very next hand, luna1094 moved all-in for 206,892 chips with Q♦Q♠, and original raiser franzi59 was the caller again, this time with T♣T♦. But the very first card on the flop was the T♦, and the other cards that followed on the board were 8♣6♦9♠A♦. The set of tens sent luna1094 out in fourth place with $1,288.00.

Zsharky got involved with franzi59, and the two went to see flop of 2♣K♠2♠. They both checked to the Q♠ on the turn, at which point franzi59 bet, zsharky raised, and franzi59 reraised all-in. Zsharky called with A♣A♦ for two pair, and franzi59 showed A♠K♣ for the spade flush draw and lower two pair. The 9♠ on the river made the flush, and zsharky was ousted in third place with $1,690.50.

Contentious heads-up match

The final two players started their battle with these counts:

Seat 2: franzi59 (699,124 in chips)
Seat 9: Lelya127 (266,876 in chips)

Lelya127 didn't take long to find a spot to double up with queens over sixes. Franzi59 continued to stay aggressive but couldn't retake the lead once Lelya127 grabbed it.

Finally, franzi59 put it on the line with Q♣6♥, and Lelya127 woke up with Q♥Q♦. The board ran out A♥J♠3♠7♣5♣, and franzi59 was eliminated in second place with $2,294.25.

Lelya127 of Russia won the Women's Sunday and $3,089.59. Congratulations!
