Minko23 defeats PS Friend Sjlot to win August 26 Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThe month of August is almost over, and so is the PokerStars Women Mobile Summer Pinterest competition. We've been pinning and repinning photos throughout the month, but there are only a few coming in during this last week so far. The competition closes at midnight on Friday, so if you want to enter, you might want to hurry it along.

The Pinterest competition has been fun, as we've seen some amazing creativity from our fans. Pictures of everything from summer drinks to hammocks to beautiful views have been forever pinned on our Pinterest Mobile Summer competition page. We have awarded several weekly prizes (PS Women goody bags) so far and will award a final one this Friday, August 31. And we will also announce the monthly winner on that day, the PokerStars player who will be receiving the iPad2! Keep those photos coming ....

For the task at hand, we had the $55 Women's Sunday, which ended registration with these numbers:

Total players: 225
Prize pool: $11,250.00
Paid finishers: 36

There were several members of Team PokerStars in action today. One of the latest to register was Team Pro Liv Boeree, but she was also the first of the bounties to exit at the beginning of the tournament. Much later in the tournament, Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was going strong until this hand, which she tweeted from the BOOM Player. That hurt, and she was out a short time later in 68th place.

Meanwhile, Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander was going strong, hanging around in the top 10 as the money bubble approached. After a very long hand-for-hand period, the 37th place elimination of A_FT_2004 left the rest of the players guaranteed at least $84.37 in prize money.

As the tournament neared the four-hour mark, the final table bubble loomed. The 11th place elimination of amun27 put hand-for-hand play into motion, but it took awhile to move the tournament forward. Finally, it was minnieskat who moved all-in with A♣T♦, but SandritaS_1 called with A♠Q♥ and improved to the straight on the 9♠8♠J♣T♥2♥ board. Minnieskat had to leave in tenth place with $180.00.

Chip lead for nutik87, Sjlot and FALLEN_LI close behind

The final table started with these nine players and their corresponding chip counts:

Seat 1: Lady Skadi (34,836 in chips)
Seat 2: SandritaS_1 (71,399 in chips)
Seat 3: minko23 (59,196 in chips)
Seat 4: pkrbadgirl (76,756 in chips)
Seat 5: FALLEN_LI (101,823 in chips)
Seat 6: nutik87 (107,632 in chips)
Seat 7: bonduuk (75,026 in chips)
Seat 8: Sjlot (102,676 in chips)
Seat 9: Olya111 (45,656 in chips)

Pkrbadgirl was at her third final table in three weeks, which was quite the feat. She finished third in the last two weeks' tournaments, and she was still looking for her win. With an average stack, she raised preflop and found a caller in FALLEN_LI. The flop came 6♥9♠3♦, and pkrbadgirl bet. FALLEN_LI raised, and pkrbadgirl moved all-in for 62,956 chips. FALLEN_LI called with Q♣Q♥, which beat the J♦J♣ of pkrbadgirl. The 8♥ and T♦ finished the board, and pkrbadgirl had to leave in ninth place with $213.75.

Olya111 was working a short stack and mader her move preflop from the big blind with A♥2♥. Original raiser minko23 called with 7♦6♦ and immediately caught two pair on the 7♣Q♦6♣ flop. The 4♥ turn and J♠ river finished the hand and sent Olya111 out in eighth place with $281.25.

On the very next hand, SandritaS_1 pushed all-in from her big blind. Original raiser FALLEN_LI reraised all-in to prompt nutik87 to fold, but she called all-in as well. SandritaS_1 showed J♠9♠, nutik 87 turned over A♥8♥, and FALLEN_LI had 6♥6♣. The board came 3♣T♦3♠8♠2♥, and nutik87's best two pair won the main and side pot for more than a double-up. SandritaS_1 was eliminated in seventh place with $393.75.

Sjlot had been relegated to a short stack but did double through nutik87 to stay in action:

Soon after, the two chip leaders tangled from the blinds. Minko23 raised from the small blind, and FALLEN_LI called from the big blind. The 9♠K♣J♣ flop brought a bet from FALLEN_LI and check-call from minko23. The 5♣ on the turn prompted FALLEN_LI to bet again, and minko23 check-called again. The T♦ on the river brought another check from minko23, and FALLEN_LI pushed all-in with 7♦6♦, but minko23 called with Q♥J♥ for the king-high straight. FALLEN_LI departed in sixth place with $506.25.

Bonduuk doubled through nutik87 to stick around, and that left nutik87 as one of the shorter stacks. Nutik87 pushed her 33,275 chips all-in on the next hand with A♦Q♠, and minko23 called with K♥2♠. But the board of 9♥J♣6♣2♦T♥ gave minko23 the pair of deuces, and nutik87 was gone in fifth place with $652.50.

Friend of PokerStars shines

Sjlot proceeded to double through Lady Skadi when her K-J bested the A-J of Lady Skadi when a king hit on the flop. Shortly thereafter, Lady Skadi pushed her short stack all-in with K♠J♣, and Sjlot called with A♣Q♦. The board didn't change anything with T♠4♣2♦6♣2♣, and the ace kicker played to send Lady Skadi out in fourth place with $956.25.

Then, this happened to put Sjlot in the lead three-handed:

Minko23 did regain the lead, but Sjlot stayed aggressive. Bonduuk was also strong, though, and chipped away at Sjlot's stack.

But Sjlot fought back. With bonduuk as the short stack, Sjlot challenged with an all-in move, and original raiser bonduuk called all-in with A♦2♣. Sjlot showed Q♥8♦ but flopped the straight with J♥9♦7♠. The A♠ and T♠ finished the hand and eliminated bonduuk in third place with $1,271.25.

Minko23 and Sjlot battle

The last two players standing started the match with these chip counts:

Seat 3: minko23 (435,373 in chips)
Seat 8: Sjlot (239,627 in chips)

Sjlot lost ground quickly, though, and she finally made her push with K♠9♦ for 142,799 chips. Minko23 called with A♣8♣, and both players hit their top pair on the K♦A♠2♣ flop. The 2♦ turn gave them each two pair, and the 4♦ solidified minko23 with the best hand. Sjlot ended her run in second place for $1,687.50.

Minko23 won the Women's Sunday and was awarded $2,300.73 for the victory. Congrats!
