Spookikiki scores top prize in August 19 Women's Sunday
It was a busy Sunday for the PokerStars Women crew. The much-anticipated PS Women Live tournament was in its second and final day in Barcelona, and the excitement of Liya Gerasimova's eventual win was the story of the day. The final post from the scene of the action was delivered not long after the Women's Sunday began on PokerStars.
Behind the scenes, the PS Women eyes were scouring the Twitter and Pinterest accounts for entries to our mobile summer photo competition. Each week, the best photo wins a PS Women goodie bag, and it all leads up to the best picture of the month winning an iPad 2. Every entry throughout the month receives a ticket to our women-only $500 freeroll in early September, so it's worth a try. Send us your pics! All of the details are here.
We were also monitoring the Women's Sunday, which closed registration with these numbers:
Total players: 204
Prize pool: $10,200.00
Paid finishers: 36
Despite many Team PokerStars players being in Barcelona for the EPT action, we had a few stars join the online tournament competition this week. The first of the two to exit was Team Pro Celina Lin, who headed to the rail in the first hour of play. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome soldiered on but finished in 106th place. Each carried a $50 bounty awarded to winners of their bustout hands.
The tournament moved forward. The three-hour point showed only three tables remaining, and it took less than 30 minutes to reduce that number to two. Hand-for-hand was in action at 10 minutes before the four-hour mark after the elimination of ABLUC in 11th place. PINK PANTER8 then made her move with A♥K♠, but spookikiki had A♣A♦, which held up to the 2♠4♠T♦3♦9♣ board. PINK PANTER8 left in tenth place with $193.80.
Pkrbadgirl: second final table in two weeks
The final table began in Level 18, with blinds at 1,250/2,500 and a 300 ante. Players' starting stacks were:
Seat 1: Sudterak (75,756 in chips)
Seat 2: paolaprofe (21,404 in chips)
Seat 3: Nakomata (26,438 in chips)
Seat 4: fantomas36 (86,235 in chips)
Seat 5: papapu123 (42,724 in chips)
Seat 6: danagips (42,800 in chips)
Seat 7: pkrbadgirl (111,877 in chips)
Seat 8: chlodog (143,881 in chips)
Seat 9: spookikiki (60,885 in chips)
The second hand of action found Nakomata moving all-in for a relatively short stack holding A♦6♦. Spookikiki called from the big blind with A♥T♥, and the better kicker played when the board blanked with 7♥3♦K♥7♣5♦. Nakomata exited in ninth place with $193.80.
The next big hand started with a raise from chlodog. Paolaprofe reraised all-in from the button for 16,154 chips. Papapu123 came over the top from the big blind all-in for 41,224. Chlodog called both players with A♥A♠. Papapu123 showed A♣J♣, and paolaprofe turned over T♠T♣. The board came 2♥9♣3♠T♦7♥, and the turned set of tens gave paolaprofe the main pot. Chlodog took the side pot with the pocket aces, and papapu123 had to leave in eighth place with $255.00.
Danagips was the next player at risk, pushing all-in with 8♠8♦. But original UTG raiser fantomas36 called with Q♣Q♥, which held up to the K♠3♥J♣9♦4♦ board. Danagips exited in seventh place with $357.00.
Paolaprofe went all-in UTG with K♣T♠ for 27,462 chips, and fantomas36 reraised to isolate, which worked. Fantomas36 showed A♦J♥, and the ace played as the board produced only 9♣7♦2♣9♠2♥. Paolaprofe left in sixth place with $459.00.
Moments later, Sudterak made her push with K♦J♣, and spookikiki was along holding a dominating K♣Q♣. The virtual dealer gave them 4♦6♦2♥6♠5♣, and Sudterak was out in fifth place with $591.60.
Fantomas36 was in the big blind and called a small blind raise from spookikiki to see a flop of 8♠4♠A♣. Spookikiki bet, and fantomas36 raised all-in with the straight draw holding 5♠6♦. Spookikiki called with A♦T♦ for top pair, and the A♥ on the turn made that trip aces. The 3♠ on the river changed nothing, and fantomas36 left in fourth place with $867.00.
Short-stacked chlodog doubled once through pkrbadgirl during three-handed play, and two hands later, she did the same through spookikiki, as shown here:
Pkrbadgirl doubled back through chlodog once but remained the shortest of the three remaining players. She soon moved again, that time with A♦2♦. Chlodog called with Q♦J♠ and hit the flop of 7♣7♠Q♠. The two pair remained the best hand as the T♦ and 9♣ finished the board, and pkrbadgirl had to settle for third place and $1,152.60. She finished in third place in last week's Women's Sunday as well.
Heads-up: UK versus Canada
The final two players began their heads-up match with these chip counts:
Seat 8: chlodog (388,354 in chips)
Seat 9: spookikiki (223,646 in chips)
Spookikiki did wage a slow but steady comeback and evened the chip counts, though chlodog stayed aggressive. But when spookikiki scored a big double-up with Q♣9♣ versus 4♦4♣ on a 3♠Q♦Q♥2♥7♦ board, chlodog was in trouble. Two hands later, chlodog pushed all-in with 4♣4♦ again, but spookikiki called with 7♠7♥. The board blanked with 2♣K♠A♣3♠Q♣, and chlodog had to settle for second place with $1,530.00 in prize money.
Spookikiki of the United Kingdom won the tournament and $2,085.90 in cash. Congrats!
