Victory for _valitsaki_ in July 8 Women's Sunday
PokerStars likes to try new things. Earlier this year, they offered up the first MicroMillions series of online poker tournaments. There were 100 events with very low buy-ins, making the action accessible to all players of all bankrolls. It was such a hit that PokerStars is preparing to do it again.
MicroMillions II is set to kick off this week, on Thursday, July 12. Multiple tournament offerings each day include everything from No Limit Hold'em to Pot Limit Omaha, with many other variations scattered about. And buy-ins range from $.11 for Event 1 to $22 for the Main Event. Satellites are already running around the clock, so there's no excuse not to take a shot and play for a MicroMillions seat and one of those coveted titles!
As for today, our Women's Sunday tournament exceeded its guarantee and found a solid crowd in contention for this week's title:
Total players: 207
Prize pool: $10,350.00
Paid finishers: 36
With many of the Team PokerStars Pros in Las Vegas for a little tournament series there, we were very lucky to have two women in the Women's Sunday wearing the PokerStars logo and carrying their corresponding $50 bounty prizes.
Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was one of them, and after making the final tables of the last two Women's Sunday tournaments, she late-registered and early-exited today's event in 140th place. Team Pro Viviam Im was still hanging in when the money bubble burst at about the 2 hour, 40 minute mark. Then she soared into the top five players of the four remaining tables.
As the final table neared, though, Viviam Im became one of the short stacks and finally made her move with A♠9♠. Andonis333 called from the big blind with 8♦8♣ and made a full house on the 7♠6♠6♣T♣6♦ board to collect the $50 bounty. Vivian Im exited in 12th place with $165.60.
Just past the four-hour mark, Ira_161 moved all-in UTG with A♣K♦, and andonis333 called from the button with T♥T♣. The board of 4♣2♦8♥J♦6♥ allowed the pocket pair to hold up, and Ira_161 left in tenth place with $165.60.
Andonis333 stands tall with chip lead
The final table was set in Level 19, with blinds at 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante, not to mention these players' starting stacks:
Seat 1: shawrmaking (36,231 in chips)
Seat 2: andonis333 (154,960 in chips)
Seat 3: carrie125 (51,875 in chips)
Seat 4: Quinout (71,069 in chips)
Seat 5: 7mango (63,895 in chips)
Seat 6: _valitsaki_ (97,072 in chips)
Seat 7: domilid (49,782 in chips)
Seat 8: DOZAspb (30,432 in chips)
Seat 9: luaazul3 (65,684 in chips)
Caution was the name of the game for the first few rounds, and then short-stacked DOZAspb took a risk and doubled through luaazul3. Then, shawrmaking doubled through andonis333 to stay in action. Meanwhile, _valitsaki_ chipped up and gave andonis333 a run for her first place position.
When Quinout decided to risk it all with T♣T♥, _valitsaki_ went along for the ride with A♥Q♣ and hit the flop of 3♥A♦5♥. That pair of aces remained the best hand through the J♠ turn and 6♠ river. Quinout was out in ninth place with $196.65.
That elimination put _valitsaki_ in the chip lead, and then andonis333 took more hits when carrie125 and domilid each doubled through her.
Luaazul3 was the next to risk her chips, pushing all-in from early position with A♣T♦. Original UTG raiser DOZAspb called with K♥K♣, and that hand only improved on the 4♠3♦9♦6♠4♥ board. Luaazul3 was gone in eighth place with $258.75.
Shawrmaking then moved all-in with A♠Q♥ against the K♦K♣ of _valitsaki_ and couldn't improve on the 6♣4♠3♥J♣4♥ board. That pushed shawrmaking to the rail in seventh place with a $362.25 payout.
7mango doubled through domilid just after the 4.5-hour break, and that left domilid crippled. All of her chips went in on the next hand with K♠8♠, but _valitsaki_ took the pot with A♠5♦ on a board of 5♥Q♠T♥A♥9♠. Domilid took home $465.75 for the sixth place finish.
Andonis333 then began a comeback that started with this double-up through carrie125:
Two hands later, carrie125 pushed her short stack all-in with K♥9♣, and _valitsaki_ called from the big blind with A♣7♣. The flop of 2♥2♠4♥ was innocent enough, but the 7♦ on the turn gave _valitsaki_ the advantage. The 2♦ on the river only made that into a full house and sent carrie125 out in fifth place with $600.30.
DOZAspb doubled through _valitsaki_, and when 7mango wanted to move, _valitsaki_ was there with the call again. This time, 7mango had A♣8♣ but _valitsaki_ dominated with A♥K♥. The board of 5♠9♣6♠4♠T♠ changed nothing, and 7mango was eliminated in fourth place with $879.75.
Andonis333 made another move, this time with 2♣2♦ preflop. Original raiser DOZAspb called with A♠5♥, and though she missed the Q♥7♠6♦ flop, she hit the 5♣ on the turn for the better pair. The 4♣ on the river was inconsequential, and andonis333 finally had to leave in third place with $1,169.55.
Heads-up with close stacks
The final two players began their battle with these stacks:
Seat 6: _valitsaki_ (313,184 in chips)
Seat 8: DOZAspb (307,816 in chips)
The first big pot went to _valitsaki_, but DOZAspb maintained a stack above 250K. Still, it didn't take long for the two to get into an all-or-nothing hand. It started with a raised flop of 6♦7♠4♥ and a bet from _valitsaki_. DOZAspb check-raised, and _valitsaki_ moved all-in with Q♣Q♠. DOZAspb called with 8♠8♦ and had outs, but the 9♦ on the turn and A♠ on the river failed to bring any of them. DOZAspb had to settle for second place and $1,552.50.
Greece's _valitsaki_ took the Women's Sunday title and $2,116.68 in cash. Congrats!
