Well done WakkaAce for $3,300 Women's Sunday Win

It was a big Sunday on PokerStars. Our Women's Sunday had the highest turnout in months, catapulting the prize pool over the $17K mark. Quite a lot of money!

All of PokerStars was jumping this weekend. The 7th Anniversary Sunday Million had a whopping $7 million guarantee and ended up with a prize pool exceeding $9.8 million. Wow! And players were competing in the World Blogger Championship of Online Poker (WBCOOP) for prizes, cash, and SCOOP tickets. It was a whirlwind of poker action.

And it was a great way to kick off March, which has a lot to offer. Not only is the MicroMillions on tap, complete with Zoom tournaments this time, but the Women's Sunday will be celebrating its second birthday on March 24. We have some exciting plans in the works, so stay tuned to the PokerStars blog for details later this week.

For now, back to the $55 Women's Sunday and these fantastic numbers:

Total players: 344
Guarantee: $10,000.00
Prize pool: $17,200.00
Paid finishers: 54

There were two PokerStars team members in the field today, each with a $50 bounty. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was eliminated in the first hour of action, and Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander held on until 146th place.

The money bubble burst about 15 minutes before the three-hour mark, and play moved along fairly quickly from that point, with everyone guaranteed a minimum $86.00 payday.

It took less than an hour to reduce the field to two tables, and the 11th place elimination of drosofila69 led to hand-for-hand play. It took more than 15 minutes to see the next player go, and it just so happened to be Liza_plus_EV. She pushed with 7♣7♥ in the big blind, and original UTG raiser aaanouk called with A♥5♠. The board came 8♣Q♣A♣Q♥J♦, and aaanouk had the best two pair. Liza_plus_EV, winner of the February 3 Women's Sunday, exited in tenth place today with $223.60.

Alka_ita takes lead into final table

The final table began in Level 20, with blinds of 2,000/4,000 and a 400 ante. The players' starting stacks were as follows:

Seat 1: KofolaBaby! (83,452 in chips)
Seat 2: WakkaAce (101,497 in chips)
Seat 3: ZILLA8 (78,674 in chips)
Seat 4: MONIKA333350 (80,098 in chips)
Seat 5: alka-ita (198,618 in chips)
Seat 6: MyMilkCans=D (112,344 in chips)
Seat 7: aaanouk (177,150 in chips)
Seat 8: patawkubakia (93,024 in chips)
Seat 9: marinka600 (107,143 in chips)

Play was fairly cautious at the start, but patawkubakia took a risk with pocket jacks that paid off, giving her a double-up through marinka600 as shown here:

Patawkubakia took more chips from marinka600 in a subsequent hand, and patawkubakia challenged her again a few hands later from the button with an all-in raise. Marinka600 called from the small blind with A♦J♣, and patawkubakia showed Q♠T♥. But the very first card of the T♠3♠9♥4♠8♣ board gave patawkubakia the pair, and marinka600 had to leave in ninth place with $285.52.

ZILLA8 hit a big double through alka-ita, relegating the latter of the two to the shortest stack, though a double through aaanouk a bit later kept her in action.

MONIKA333350 was struggling and made her all-in move with T♣T♦ from the big blind with two raisers. Patawkubakia folded out of the way, and KofolaBaby! showed J♦J♥. The board blanked with K♠5♣8♥A♠4♥, and MONIKA333350 left in eighth place with $387.00.

WakkaAce then doubled through patawkubakia in this hand:

Patawkubakia pushed all-in a few hands later with Q♠T♣ from the big blind, and small blind raiser aaanouk called with K♦3♠. The board of K♠8♥A♥3♦A♣ gave aaanouk top two pair, and patawkubakia departed in seventh place with $559.00.

Alka-ita was short again and got involved preflop. After an initial raise from WakkaAce, alka-ita reraised all-in for less than 29K. Aaanouk in the big blind and WakkaAce both called. The flop came J♣3♠5♠, and WakkaAce bet, prompting a fold from aaanouk. Alka-ita showed her A♦2♦, but WakkaAce had A♠J♦ for top pair. The K♦ turn and Q♣ finished the board, and alka-ita took home $731.00 for the sixth place finish.

ZILLA8 was very short and doubled through MyMilkCans=D to stay alive, but she moved all-in again on the very next hand with K♠Q♠. MyMilkCans=D called with 2♣2♦, and the flop of 2♥3♦Q♦ brought a set for MyMilkCans=D. The Q♥ on the turn gave ZILLA8 trip queens but made a full house for MyMilkCans=D, and the A♦ on the river eliminated ZILLA8 in fifth place with $963.20.

Aaanouk doubled through MyMilkCans=D, and the latter was the shortest of the four remaining stacks. A few rounds later, MyMilkCans=D raised, and aaanouk put her to the test with an all-in reraise. MyMilkCans=D called with J♦T♣, and aaanouk showed Q♦7♥. The board came A♥4♦A♠4♥Q♣, and aaanouk had the better two pair. MyMilkCans=D exited in fourth place with $1,376.00.

No deal for final three

The final three players paused the tournament to discuss a deal. However, after seeing ICM numbers, they could not agree to any terms, so the tournament resumed.

Aaanouk doubled through KofolaBaby! in this hand:

KofolaBaby! moved her 41,862 chips all-in two hands later with J♦pTh], and WakkaAce called with K♦4♦. The board came 8♦2♣9♣2♥3♥, and KofolaBaby! was out in third place with $1,806.00.

Heads-up play then began with these chip counts:

Seat 2: WakkaAce (732,420 in chips)
Seat 7: aaanouk (299,580 in chips)

On the sixth hand of the match, aaanouk found a spot and took her chance with K♦J♦. WakkaAce called with Q♠8♠ but found a pair on the 7♠9♠8♣ flop, not to mention the flush draw. The 5♠ on the turn made that flush, and nothing about the 5♣ on the river changed anything. Aaanouk took second place and $2,451.00 for the tournament.

WakkaAce of Denmark won the Women's Sunday and took home $3,300.68 for her victory. Congrats!
