Women's Sunday: alfaromea leaves 'em in the dust

Mere moments after Corrina Lupascu came from behind to win the 2013 PCA Ladies Event, the Women's Sunday crowned its second winner of the year. 224 ladies from all corners of the globe bought in this week, creating an $11,200 prize pool that eclipsed the guarantee. 36 players earned a share of it with first place set to earn $2,290.40. It was also a rare week without a single Red Spade in the field, as bounty regulars like Charlotte Van Brabander, Fatima De Melo, and Liv Boeree busied themselves on the felt (and by the pool) in the sun-drenched Bahamas.

With ten players remaining and the final table bubble looming, short stack (and rum aficionado?) morgancpt limp-called kita1729's 5,000 min-raise. Kita1729 check-raised the T♠7♥5♠ flop to 15,000 and morgancpt called. The turn brought the 7♦ and kita1729 made it 20,000 to go, setting morgancpt all-in. She made the call, turning over K♣5♣ for two pair, sevens and fives but kita1729 had her beat with 9♥9♣. The river blanked out with the Q♣ and morgancpt departed in tenth place, setting the final table.

Final table chip counts

Seat 2: kristiine'88 (71,476 in chips)
Seat 3: 21R0 (51,496 in chips)
Seat 4: pkrbadgirl (47,298 in chips)
Seat 5: Lourdes2007 (40,512 in chips)
Seat 6: PassDaaSuga (32,496 in chips)
Seat 7: orehovka (98,520 in chips)
Seat 8: alfaromea (103,068 in chips)
Seat 9: ashieeee (117,158 in chips)

Kita1729 KOs two

The blinds up to 1,500/3,000, and only 30,000 in her stack, PassDaaSuga knew she had to make something happen fast. On the second hand of the final table, she got her chips in with A♠Q♦, only to chop the pot with orehovka who turned up A♣Q♥. However, two hands later, she picked up 8♥8♣ and raised all-in on a J♠7♦5♦ flop. Kita1729 called with K♥K♦ and her cowboys held up to send PassDaaSuga to the rail in ninth place.

Three hands later, pkrbadgirl shoved for 32,000 from UTG and kita1729 called on the button with A♠Q♥. Pkrbadgirl turned over K♣Q♦, her situation going from bad to worse when kita1729 hit the nut straight on the T♣J♥K♥ flop. Pkrbadgirl's run came to an end in eighth place, and kita1729 moved into the chip lead with 176,711.

ashieeee chips up, orehovka caught bluffing

Kita1729's stint on top was short-lived, however, as ashieeee won back to back pots to move up to 190,000, including this hand where she shoved the river and got a fold from alfaromea:

Minutes later, orehovka check-raised all-in on a 5♦5♠4♥ flop with K♦T♠, no doubt hoping for a fold. Alfaromea had the goods, though and called, turning over pocket jacks. Orhovka didn't find a king on the turn or river and was crippled to only 327 in chips. Kristiine'88 finished the job on the next hand when her A♥J♠ held up against J♦5♦, sending orehovka home in seventh place.

Sets slay Lourdes2007, 21R0

On the very next deal, Lourdes2007 open-shoved for 36,712 from UTG and ashieeee called on the button. Lourdes2007's K♣Q♣ was racing against 8♣8♠, but the flop all but ended things when it fell T♦9♣8♦, making ashieeee bottom set. Lourdes2007 could only survive with a jack, but missed the turn and river to go out in sixth.

The blinds up to 2,000/4,000, 21R0 moved in for her last 41,000 with A♥3♥, but ran into kita1729's 9♣9♠. Once again, a set on the flop spelled the end of one of our final tablists, the board running out 9♦J♥2♥5♠Q♠ to eliminate 21R0 in fifth.

alfaromea shifts gears

The short stack with four remaining, alfaromea picked up steam when she doubled through kristiine'88, her A♦T♠ holding up against K♥9♦. Kristiine'88 was left with only 21,000, about four big blinds, and moved in a few hands later with Q♦T♦. Unfortunately for kristiine'88, alfaromea found A♦8♥ on the button and hit middle pair on the J♦8♠4♥ flop. Kristiine'88 did not improve and went out in fourth.

The field down to three, alfaromea picked up another huge pot. After three-betting preflop and calling a check-raise on the flop, alfaromea bet kita1729 off her hand, the board reading T♣6♦4♠3♠. Kita1729 was left with 128,000 after the hand, while alfaromea moved up to 236,000.

Alfaromea chipped up to 333,000 over the course of the next level and passed ashieeee to take the chip lead. Then, on a 9♠5♥4♠ flop, alfaromea four-bet shoved and ashieeee called all-in for 172,000. Ashieeee showed Q♦9♥ for top pair, but alfaromea had her crushed with K♠K♥. The turn was the J♥ and alfaromea hit a set for good measure with the K♦ on the river to eliminate ashieeee in third place and rake in the monster pot.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 1: kita1729 (81,491 in chips)
Seat 8: alfaromea (590,509 in chips)

Although alfaromea was clearly in control in terms of chip count, kita1729 doubled up on the first heads-up hand, her pocket sevens holding against A♦2♦. But alfaromea reclaimed those chips only three hands later, when kita1729 bluffed the flop and turn holding 9♥T♥ on a Q♥4♥4♠2♠J♣ board. Kita1729 gave up and checked the river, alfaromea checking back with ace-high to take down the 133,200 pot.

Down to only 66,000 kita1729 stole a few more blinds, but couldn't gain any traction. In the final hand, kita1729 open-shoved with K♣6♥ and alfaromea called with a dominating K♠Q♠ to lock up the win:

Congratulations to alfaromea on her Women's Sunday title! She banked $2,290.40 for the win while runner-up kita1729 earned $1,680.00
