Women's Sunday: Haufniensis runs the table en route to second title

Less than four months after her first win, Haufniensis is a two-time Women's Sunday champion. Third in chips to start the final table, Haufniensis quickly morphed from an average stack to a one-woman wrecking ball. She scored five knockouts before getting heads-up with onetime chip leader uwbabe and survived a seesaw battle before delivering the final blow.

Haufniensis won her first Women's Sunday title on May 19th, defeating a field of 227 players and a final table that included Friend of PokerStars Charlotte Van Brabander. Today's field was even more robust, its 269 players creating a $13,450.00 prize pool. 45 places were paid with first place set to earn $2,602.69. Van Brabander was back in the fray as well, but saw her $50 bounty collected when Anyuta123 flopped a set of tens against her K♥J♦.

Blinds were up to 1,500/3,000 with ten players remaining and chiccc_sthlm was the short stack. Facing a button raise to 7,500 from Haufniensis, chiccc_sthlm found K♥9♣ in the small blind and shoved for 28,400. Haufniensis called with pocket threes and survived the A♦T♥5♥4♣4♠ board to eliminate chiccc_sthlm and send us to the final table.

Two more fall to Haufniensis

With the blinds up to 2,000/4,000 sexyhands picked up A♠A♥ under-the-gun and opened for 8,000. Haufniensis three-bet to 20,000, sexyhands shoved for 61,334 and Haufniensis called, her A♣K♦ in terrible shape. The flop, however, changed everything, falling Q♦J♥T♦. Haufniensis flopped Broadway to snap off sexyhands's pocket aces, and ended her run in ninth place.

Only three hands later, pokerstark17 tried the same move, three-bet shoving for 54,295 over Haufniensis's opening min-raise. This time, Haufniensis was the one with A♣A♥, while pokerstark17's tournament life was at risk with A♦Q♥. Pokerstark17 flopped a gutshot straight draw but Hauniensis's aces held through the turn and river to send pokerstark17 to the rail in eighth place. Haufniensis moved up to 227,000 in chips, just short of uwbabe's tournament-leading 239,000.

uwbabe cracks aces, Haufniensis continues to roll

Pocket aces made another appearance as the blinds rose to 2,500/5,000 and Bokkass opened for 12,500 from UTG. Uwbabe called from the big blind and the rest of their money went in T♥8♠3♥ flop. Uwbabe turned up 8♣T♣ for top two pair, sending Bokkass's A♣A♥ up in flames. Blanks fell on the turn and river and aces dropped to 1-2 as Bokkass departed in seventh place.

With that hand, uwbabe moved up to 360,000. Haufniensis held 219,000, and the other four were all on stacks below 16 big blinds. Of those four, princini23 made the first move, three-bet shoving for 27,649 with A♥Q♠. AKconcrete called with a dominated A♦8♣ and princini23 doubled to 66,000. Two hands later, Haufniensis finished off AKconcrete in sixth place when her A♥Q♥ stood up to AKconcrete's 7♦T♦.

Only two hands later, MrNilsson open-shoved for 39,253 from UTG and Haufniensis found pocket jacks on the button. Haufniensis flopped top set vs. MrNilsson's Q♠6♠ and scored her fourth KO, sending MrNilsson home in fifth place.

Clash of the chip leaders

With the field down to four, our chip leaders clashed at last, Haufniensis forcing a fold on the river in this 207,000 pot:

Haufniensis moved up to 405,000 while uwbabe fell to 258,000. However, uwbabe regained some ground when she turned two pair against xAnGeLxEyEzx. Holding 9♦T♥ on a A♣9♣6♠T♠ board, uwbabe check-raised all-in and xAnGeLxEyEzx called off her remaining 46,000 with A♥Q♣. xAnGeLxEyEzx needed an ace, a queen, or a six to survive but got the 5♣ instead, ending her run in fourth place.

xAnGeLxEyEzx's exit left princini23 as the last remaining short stack. With 56,000 left, princini23 three-bet shoved from the small blind with J♥T♠ and Haufniensis looked her up with A♣3♣. Haufniensis's ace-high held up and princini23 took third place, earning $1,479.50.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 2: uwbabe (346,448 in chips)
Seat 7: Haufniensis (460,552 in chips)

Haufniensis ground up another 100,000 in chips before uwbabe hit the reset button. Haufniensis fired the flop and turn from out of position on a 6♣6♥T♦9♥ board, but slowed down and checked when the river blanked with the 2♣. Haufniensis check-called another 60,000, uwbabe showing K♥T♥ to take down the 281,600 pot with two pair.

Haufniensis quickly rebounded, three-betting to 40,000 pre from the big blind and leading out for another 40,000 on a 6♥5♥2♣ flop. Uwbabe raised to 81000 and Haufniensis called. Both players checked the 4♥ on the turn, but when the 7♠ hit the river, Haufniensis shoved for 419,000. Uwbabe folded and Haufniensis moved up to 662,000 in chips.

Down to 128,000, uwbabe doubled up when her Q♠J♠ flopped top pair against Haufniensis's 9♥3♥, but she could only hang on for four more hands. Both players shipped their stacks in with draws on a 8♠6♥5♠ flop, but only Haufniensis got there, rivering the 9♥ to make a nine-high straight vs. uwbabe's flush draw.

Congratulations to the U.K.'s Haufniensis on her second Women's Sunday title! She banked $2,602.69 for the win, while runner-up uwbabe earned $1,950.25.
