Women's Sunday was positive EV for winner Liza_Plus_EV

As the calendar turned to February, many of us wondered how we ran through January so quickly. It was a whirlwind of sorts, with the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure offering a lot of excitement and women getting into the groove of the new PokerStars Women's Club. That month sure did fly by, though, didn't it?

We're in February now, and some of our players are in Deauville, France, for a festival of poker hosted by the European Poker Tour. Reports are already coming in, featuring the likes of Liv Boeree and Vanessa Rousso, so stayed tuned to this PokerStars Blog space for more in the coming week.

Meanwhile, we had some online poker business to take care of. The $55 Women's Sunday was in its regular time and place on the schedule, and its $10K guarantee was in place as always. We had a solid crowd looking for a Women's Sunday title this week, and an hour of late registration culminated in these final numbers:

Total players: 248
Prize pool: $12,400.00
Paid finishers: 36

As some of the Team Pros were busy at the EPT Deauville, the lovely Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome of Team PokerStars Online sat down with our Women's Sunday players as a $50 bounty. She didn't make it far into the tournament, though, as she was eliminated in the first hour.

It took about three hours to get to the money bubble, at which point it burst to allow joy7108 to cash in 36th place for $93.00. Players continued to strive for final table fame, and it took less than an hour to get to the final two tables. Minutes past the four-hour mark, Werqa risked her short stack from the big blind with J♣9♠, and original raiser naoomka, in the small blind, showed A♣Q♣. The board came 5♣A♠2♥9♦T♥, and the aces eliminated Werqa in tenth place with $198.40.

MrNiIsson leads ladies' final table

The final table began in Level 19, with blinds of 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante. Players' starting stacks were as follows:

Seat 1: MrNiIsson (176,324 in chips)
Seat 2: Susiesue182 (36,666 in chips)
Seat 3: Liza_plus_EV (99,863 in chips)
Seat 4: naoomka (143,219 in chips)
Seat 5: 88maca88 (54,542 in chips)
Seat 6: $Gaskonec$85 (58,400 in chips)
Seat 7: donleg (89,279 in chips)
Seat 8: hotjenny314 (33,209 in chips) out of hand
Seat 9: mikaela00 (52,498 in chips)

Play was slow for the first round or so, but donleg then challenged $Gaskonec$85 and doubled through her. That left $Gaskonec$85 with 321 chips, all of which went in on the next hand with the ante holding 6♥2♣. 88maca88 was there from the small blind with 5♥3♠, and the board came 4♥5♦2♥3♦3♥, giving 88maca the full house. $Gaskonec$85 was the first to leave the table, taking home $235.60 for ninth place.

The very next hand started with an UTG call from mikaela00, call from naoomka from middle position, small blind call from donleg, and a big blind check from hotjenny314. The flop came J♥5♣8♠, and donleg bet. Hotjenny314 raised all-in, and mikaela00 did the same. Naoomka reraised to cover them both, and donleg folded. Hotjenny314 was at risk with T♠9♥, mikaela00 was on the line with K♦J♦, and naoomka had the set with 5♥5♠. The turn was 3♣ and river 9♦, eliminating hotjenny314, who finished two weeks ago in ninth in eighth place with $310 and mikaela00 in seventh with $434.00.

Susiesue182 doubled through MrNiIsson two hands later.

Shortly thereafter, 88maca88 pushed all-in from the big blind with 4♥4♠, and initial button raiser Liza_plus_EV called with K♥K♠. The board came Q♣7♣Q♠T♣6♥, eliminating 88maca88 in sixth place with $558.00.

Susiesue182 doubled through MrNiIsson twice but remained the shortest stack at the table. However, when Liza_plus_EV took a pot worth 134,600 chips from naoomka, the latter was fairly short as well. A few rounds later, naoomka pushed all-in with K♦K♣, and Liza_plus_EV called with Q♣Q♦. The flop of 9♠8♠6♦ looked positive for a double-up for naoomka, but the Q♠ hit on the turn to give Liza_plus_EV the set of queens. And the 6♠ on the river made that into a full house. Naoomka was eliminated in fifth place with $719.20.

Susiesue182 then doubled through MrNiIsson yet again, this time shown here:

Two hands after that, MrNiIsson made a move with Q♦J♦ and only 14,312 chips, and Liza_plus_EV called with 8♣3♥. The board brought 6♦5♠A♣2♥3♠ to give Liza_plus_EV the only pair, and MrNiIsson had to leave in fourth place with $1,054.00.

Donleg was short and doubled through Liza_plus_EV, but Susiesue182 doubled through donleg, leave the latter with little more than 40K chips. When donleg was down to nearly 30K, the all-in move came with K♥8♦, and Liza_plus_EV was there with 9♥6♥. The board didn't change much with the Q♠J♥3♥ flop or 7♦ turn, but the 6♣ river eliminated donleg, who finished seventh in this tournament last week, in third place with $1,401.20.

Liza_plus_EV leads heads-up

The final two players started their match with these chip counts:

Seat 2: Susiesue182 (197,356 in chips)
Seat 3: Liza_plus_EV (546,644 in chips)

Susiesue182 was patient and finally moved with A-5 against the pocket tens of Liza_plus_EV and doubled with an ace on the flop.

Looking down at K♠J♥, Susiesue182 pushed again, but Liza_plus_EV had her covered with A♣9♥. The board came 3♦4♥5♠4♣8♣, and that left SusieSue182 out in second place with $1,860.00.

Liza_plus_EV won the Women's Sunday and $2,535.80. Congrats!
