GotamAA got victory in March 2 Women's Sunday

Last week, we talked a little about the upcoming third birthday of the Women's Sunday. We mentioned in this piece that there will be some fun promotions in March leading up to the big event. I also revealed a little secret about a boosted guarantee for the March 30 Women's Sunday Birthday tournament.

Between that news and the massive Sunday Million 8th Anniversary tournament today with its $8 million guarantee, the tables on PokerStars were packed. And that led to a fantastic turnout for the Women's Sunday today.

Total players: 326
Guarantee: $10,000.00
Prize pool: $16,300.00
Paid finishers: 54

There were several members of Team PokerStars in the field, each holding a $50 bounty for the player who knocked them out of the tournament. The first player to leave was Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome, and a bit later, her new teammate exited.

If you haven't heard, Team Online grew by three new members this week, and Katarina "katerina289" Malasidou of Portugal was one of them. She may have busted in 137th in today's Women's Sunday, but her specialty is hyper-turbos! We look forward to seeing her again in our women-only tournaments.

Team Pro Liv Boeree was also at the tables today, and she hit the virtual rail in 120th.

Play continued, CallMeBanana busted on the money bubble, and the rest of the players were guaranteed at least $81.50 for their efforts.

At the four-hour mark, only two tables remained, and there was quite a bit of activity at both tables. Eventually, it was daiane_br who moved all-in on the final table bubble with only 8,401 chips and K♥T♦. Mymoon4ik called from the big blind with 9♣4♣ and hit two pair on the 9♥7♣3♥4♦Q♦ board. Daiane_br exited in tenth place with $211.90.

Valkatusas seeks victory with initial chip lead

The final table was set in Level 20, with blinds at 2,500/5,000 and a 500 ante, along with these players and their corresponding chip stacks:

Seat 1: valkatusas (310,837 in chips)
Seat 2: LEV1712 (238,200 in chips)
Seat 3: dymalda (50,487 in chips)
Seat 4: sulledulle (50,167 in chips)
Seat 5: GotamAA (156,668 in chips)
Seat 6: DaliaAllin (74,076 in chips)
Seat 7: mymoon4ik (47,894 in chips)
Seat 8: rondo1231 (27,425 in chips)
Seat 9: krissyb24 (22,246 in chips)

Krissyb24 doubled through valkatusas on the very first hand.

After a few non-flop hands, rondo1231 made her push from the big blind with A♣9♣. Original raiser GotamAA folded, but DaliaAllin called with A♥J♠. The board delivered Q♠5♦Q♣T♥3♦, and the kicker played to eliminate rondo1231 in ninth place with $270.58.

Two hands later, sulledulle took a chance from UTG+1 with K♦Q♥ and her last 40K chips. Valkatusas called from the small blind, as did LEV1712 from the big blind. After the 3♥T♣3♠ flop, valkatusas bet, and LEV1712 folded. Valkatusas showed 9♥9♣, and that held up to the 5♠ turn and J♦ river. Sulledulle was ousted in eighth place, which was worth $366.75.

On the very next hand, dymalda doubled through valkatusas, but the latter retained her lead.

Then it was krissyb24, who moved all-in with just over 40K chips from UTG. LEV1712 called with 8♥8♦, and krissyb24 looked to double up with K♠K♥. But the board of 7♣8♣6♠A♣T♠ gave LEV1712 the set of eights to eliminate Kristen "krissyb24" Bicknell in seventh place with $529.75.

Upon the players' return from the 4.5-hour break, dymalda tried her hand at another double-up. She got involved in a reraised flop of 8♠T♣9♠ with valkatusas. After that flop, dymalda bet, valkatusas raised, and dymalda pushed all-in with A♥J♣ for the straight draw. But valkatusas called with 7♦6♦ and the straight. The 3♣ and 9♣ finished the hand, leaving dymalda out in sixth place with $692.75.

Two hands after that, DaliaAllin raised all-in from the small blind. Mymoon4ik called all-in from the big blind with A♠3♦, and she was ahead of the Q♠7♠ of DaliaAllin. But the flop of Q♥6♦J♦ gave DaliaAllin the queens, and the T♥ and 6♣ cards officially eliminated mymoon4ik in fifth place with $912.80.

Four-handed play went on for a while, though valkatusas maintained her lead and LEV1712 remained the short stack for most of that time. Eventually, LEV1712 got involved in a pre-flop raising war with GotamAA, which resulted in LEV1712 all-in holding A♠4♣. But GotamAA quickly called with A♣A♥, and that pair held up to the 6♥J♣Q♦6♠7♦ board. LEV1712 was out in fourth place with $1,304.00.

Three-player throwdown

GotamAA then kept her momentum and took a pot worth more than 231K from valkatusas, which put GotamAA in the chip lead. Another big pot between the two catapulted GotamAA above 470K. But the battle raged for more than 30 minutes between the three final players before they paused to discuss a possible deal.

The ICM numbers were given at the point that GotamAA had more than 711K chips, and she was not happy with the amount of money offered. After a short discussion, the tournament resumed.

DailaAllin then pushed with A♥3♥, and original raiser GotamAA called with A♣7♣. The board blanked with 5♣9♦4♥K♠8♦, and DaliaAllin was out in third place with $1,711.50.

GotamAA aims to get 'em

The heads-up match began with these stacks:

Seat 1: valkatusas (128,062 in chips)
Seat 5: GotamAA (849,938 in chips)

It took only three hands for valkatusas to make her move with T♥8♥, and GotamAA was there with K♦7♦. And the latter only improved to a flush as displayed here:
