Stavrina34 wins Women's Sunday with new $11K guarantee

It was a strong day for the Women's Sunday, as this weekend brought out a number of players for the weekly $55 buy-in tournament. It was also the first weekend of the new $11K guarantee for the event!

Players responded well to the increased guarantee, as the final registration numbers demonstrated:

Total players: 257
Guarantee: $11,000.00
Prize pool: $12,850.00
Paid finishers: 45

Two members of Team PokerStars were in the field with $50 bounties on their heads. Both made solid runs in the tournament but finished outside of the money. Team Pro Viviam Im exited in 112th place, and Team Online's Katerina Malasidou followed in 97th place.

The tournament had been running for nearly five hours when hand-for-hand play was ready to determine the final table participants. And it took quite a few rounds of play before dani_sindi pushed all-in with her short stack and A♠2♣. Negrrra called from the big blind with J♣J♦, which improved to top two on the 2♥7♦K♣7♠K♥ board. Dani_sindi exited in tenth place for $192.75.

Seat 3: diadv (131,967 in chips)
Seat 4: stavrina34 (198,627 in chips)

Seat 6: chanal1316 (229,317 in chips)

Seat 8: negrrra (194,745 in chips)
Seat 9: zzomer (179,376 in chips)

Everything quickly changed for chanal1316, though. It started with this double-up for stavrina34:

Three hands later, krissyb24 raised all-in for 9,068 chips with 2♥2♦. Chanal1316 reraised all-in from the small blind with 56190 chips and K♥Q♣. Aliden22 called both players from the big blind with A♠J♣, and the board delivered 4♣6♠7♦8♦7♠. Krissyb24 took the main pot for a triple-up, and aliden22 collected the side pot, while chanal1316 was out in ninth place for $224.87.

A few hands later, krissyb24 doubled through stavrina34, the new chip leader at the table.

Zzomer and PHAETON7626 had tangled in quite a few pots, and the next one was no different. When zzomer raised all-in from her small blind, PHAETON7626 looked at a stack of 42,554 chips and called all-in with K♠Q♥. Zzomer shoed J♥T♠, missed the 2♠Q♣3♦ flop, but caught the T♣ turn and J♠ river for two pair. PHAETON7626 departed in eighth place with $308.40.

Diadv doubled through negrrra to climb into second place on the leaderboard.

Krissyb24 then tried for another double, raising all-in UTG with A♣7♦. But diadv reraised with A♥Q♦ to isolate, which worked, and the board didn't mean much with 9♥3♠6♣2♠A♠. Kristen "krissyb24" Bicknell busted in seventh place for $436.90.

Aliden22 then doubled through negrrra to jump into third place, where she stayed despite bojana55 doubling through her next. Bojana55 then doubled through diadv as well.

Negrrra was down to fewer than 20K chips and pushed a few hands later with K♠6♥. Diadv was there with 8♠8♦, which held up to the 2♦6♣A♥2♥9♠ board. Negrrra was ousted in sixth place with $565.40.

Five-handed play went on for more than 30 minutes, during which time aliden22 doubled through stavrina34.

Bojana55 was in trouble again, and she made her big move with Q♥T♥ against the A♠Q♦ of aliden22. The board of Q♣7♠2♥J♠9♥ put the ace kicker into play, and bojana exited in fifth place with $732.45.

Diadv then doubled through zzomer, and the latter was left with 80,312 going into the next hand. Those chips went all-in with A♥3♦ against the Q♥T♠ of aliden22, but the board of Q♣3♣5♦6♣9♦ gave aliden22 top pair. Zzomer was out in fourth place with $1,060.12.

Three play on with no deal

Not long after three-handed play began, the players paused the tournament to view ICM chop numbers. Diadv wasn't in favor of the figures provided, though, so play resumed. Their chip counts at that time were:

Seat 3: diadv (289,836 in chips)
Seat 4: stavrina34 (551,551 in chips)
Seat 7: aliden22 (443,613 in chips)

Aliden22 promptly took a pot worth 234K chips from stavrina34 to jump into the lead. However, stavrina34 quickly climbed back into the lead position and continued to dominate.

Diadv didn't fare so well and eventually pushed all-in with 9♥7♥ for 191K chips. Stavrina34 reraised all-in to keep aliden22 out, which worked, and she showed A♠K♠. The board of Q♣J♦8♠3♣2♥ changed nothing, and diadv departed in third place with $1,413.50.

Stavrina34 strong

The heads-up match began with these chip counts:

Seat 4: stavrina34 (833,823 in chips)
Seat 7: aliden22 (451,177 in chips)

Stavrina34 may have been strong, but aliden22 was not giving up easily. And as stavrina34 climbed over the million-chip mark, aliden22 found this opportunity to double up:

Shortly after, the two got involved in another big hand. It started with a raise from stavrina34 and call from aliden22 to see a flop of 8♣6♠A♥. Aliden22 moved all-in with 7♥5♥ for the straight draw, but stavrina34 called with A♦T♦ for top pair. Neither the 2♣ turn nor the J♥ river brought the straight, and aliden22 was out in second place with $1,863.25.

Stavrina34 of Cyprus captured the Women's Sunday title and $2,486.59 in cash. Congrats!
