11/22 Super Tuesday: Danny98765 Counts Down to Win $62,294

This week's Super Tuesday featured 375 players competing for a $375,000 prize pool, once again obliterating the $150,000 guarantee. The 45 players sharing in that prize pool were each looking to end up with all 1,875,000 chips to earn the expected $72,562.50 first place prize. In the end, it was Dan "Danny98765" striking a deal with Br0ke24/7 heads-up, coming back from an over 2-1 deficit to claim the title and over $62,000.

Liv Boeree was the only player from Team PokerStars to cash in tonight's tournament, one of the last players to take advantage of the three hours of late registration. Managing her stack well, she earned a 42nd place finish of $2,250.00, much better than the finishes of Team PokerStars Pros Ana Marquez, Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth, Toni Judet, Johnny Lodden and Matthias de Muelder.

In the eight hour of play, there was little drama in the hand-for-hand play on the final table bubble. The blinds were 2,000/4,000 with an ante of 500 when schIizzer open-shoved from UTG to 57,594 with K♥Q♥. Action folded around to SixthSenSe19, going over the top with A♠Q♦. The flop was A♦8♠2♥. The 9♦ on the turn mean the sizzle was gone for schIizzer as the 2♣ concluded the hand, giving schIizzer 10th place money good for $5,625.00 and setting up the final table:

November 22, 2011 Super Tuesday final table chip counts:

Seat 1: Br0ke24/7 (130,800 in chips)
Seat 2: donkmeh (184,654 in chips)
Seat 3: moneyinbag (310,911 in chips)
Seat 4: omar miete (95,364 in chips)
Seat 5: Skilled G (185,113 in chips)
Seat 6: SixthSenSe19 (168,717 in chips)
Seat 7: sms9231 (233,535 in chips)
Seat 8: Dan "Danny98765" Smith (234,778 in chips)
Seat 9: im2tight (331,128 in chips)

Skilled G was in the middle of the pack at the start of the final table, but the first player knocked out, earning $6,562.50. The blinds were at 2,800/5,600 with an ante of 700 as a now short-stacked Skilled G moved in for 59,049 with T♠7♣. Danny98765 found A♣5♣ in the big blind and called. The board ran out Q♥ Q♦ 6♥ 8♥ 2♦ meant ace-high was plenty to win the hand as eight players remained.

Ending their stay at the final table a few hands later in eighth place was im2tight, collecting $9,000.00. Following a min-raise from SixthSenSe19, im2tight moved all-in for 113,336 with A♦7♦ as SixthSenSe19 called with 8♣8♠. Five cards later the result remained the same: 8♦3♥2♣4♠ 9♠ giving SixthSenSe19 the checkmark as the field was reduced to seven contenders.

Starting the final table as the short stack, omar miete only managed to win three hands at the final table. Down to just 17,377 chips as the blinds were now at 3,600/7,200 with an ante of 900, it's wasn't a surprise to see an UTG shove with J♠7♠. The only player wanting to take action in the hand was donkmeh in the small blind, driving out moneyinbag from the big blind by shoving with Q♠9♥. Queen-high was enough to take down the pot as the board showed K♦5♥3♥ 6♥ 8♣ as omar miete earns $12,750.00 in seventh place.

Danny98765 and moneyinbag were 1-2 in chips when moneyinbag took down the following hand to move out in front. The blinds were now at 4,000/8,000 with an ante of 1,000:

Moneyinbag edged further in front, putting pressure on their opponents as the blinds moved up once again, this time to 4,500/9,000 with an ante of 1,125. Dan "Danny98765" Smith once again closed in on the chip leader by eliminating SixthSenSe19 in sixth place. Smith moved over the top of SixthSenSe19's min-raise, putting his opponent all-in with A♠6♠. SixthSenSe19 was poised for a double-up after turning over Q♥Q♠. The flop flipped the script as Smith moved in front on the A♥T♣7♦ board. SixthSenSe19 may have thought another queen was appearing, but the 3♣4♣ turn and river denied the premonition, earning the Uruguyan player $16,500.00 in sixth place.

Smith would also take care of the next elimination as he took care of sms9231 in fifth place, good for $21,375.00. The blinds moved up a level to 5,000/10,000 with an ante of 1,250 as sms9231 moved in from the small blind for their remaining 122,183 chips. Smith snap-called with Q♣Q♦ and sms9231's fate was sealed when the J♦ 9♥ 2♦ 4♣ 7♣ brought no help, leaving a quartet of players alive in the Super Tuesday.

It appeared the money was in the bag for moneyinbag, but Br0ke24/7 had other ideas. In the only hand at the final table that saw a pot of over 1,000,000 chips, it was Br0ke24/7 doubling through moneyinbag to take over the lead when a fortunate card on the turn meant we had a new chip leader. Here's how that hand played out with blinds at 6,000/12,000 with an ante of 1,500:

As the top two in chips switched positions, it was Danny98765 sending his third straight player to the rail as donkmeh earned fourth place, good for $30,937.50. Danny98765 min-raised from the button to 24,000, inducing donkmeh to ship their 162,550 chips in the middle with Q♦7♣. Once again, Danny98765 held the best hand, this time it was A♦K♥. Five cards later ace-high was good on the 8♦ 8♣ 2♦ T♣ 3♠ board as three remained.

Just two hands later it would be heads-up as moneyinbag winds up with much less money to stuff in said bag as they expected, $41,250.00 in third place. From the button, moneyinbag min-raised to 24,000 as Br0ke24/7 called from the big blind. The pair saw the flop of A♣Q♥7♦ as Br0ke24/7 check-raised moneyinbag's 25,555 bet to 64,000. Moneyinbag four-bet all-in for 315,634 as Br0ke24/7 called, having the lead when the hands were revealed. Br0ke24/7 revealed A♠2♠ for top pair while moneyinbag held bottom pair, T♦7♣. The chip stack of moneyinbag was emptied into Br0ke24/7's bulging pile of chips as the J♦ turn and 4♠ river sent the former chip leader off to vent their frustations elsewhere.

Before the first hand was dealt, both players agreed to take a look at the numbers. Here's how the chip chop numbers looked:

Br0ke24/7: 1,360,254 - $65,393.06
Danny98765: 514,746 - $58,544.44

Danny98765 wanted a little more, eventually settling for $750.00 more so the final figures were as follows ($3,000.00 was set aside for the winner):

Br0ke24/7: $64,643.06
Danny98765: $59,294.44

If you expected the heads-up match to be over shortly after a deal was made, you would be mistaken as the two slugged it out for well over an hour. Danny98765 was able to get an early double-up, turning a straight against Br0ke24/7's flopped pair of nines to close the gap to 150,000 chips. Eventually Danny98765 would assume the chip lead for good, helped in part with this hand (blinds at 8,000/16,000 with an ante of 2,000):

Now holding a 2-1 chip lead, Dan Smith would maintain the pressure on Br0ke24/7. Although able to double up once through Smith when their A♠8♠ outflopped Smith's A♣K♠, that would be the highlight of the closing section of the tournament from Br0ke24/7. The next to last hand would see Smith river a set of nines against the bottom two pair of Br0ke24/7, leaving them with just 261,189 chips as the blinds were now 10,000/20,000 with an ante of 2,500. Br0ke24/7 shoved from the small blind with 2♣2♦ as Danny98765 called with A♣8♣. Br0ke24/7 maintained the lead on the flop of K♦J♣T♥, but Danny98765 picked up additional outs. Those outs were unneeded when the A♠ hit the turn. Now Br0ke24/7 needed one of the two remaining deuces to double up or a queen to chop the pot, but it was the 9♦ on the river giving the win to Danny98765, earning $62,294.44 while Br0ke24/7 earned the most money in the tournament, cashing in for $64,643.06. Congrats to both players for an excellent heads-up match!
