2013 TCOOP: hoffy26631 cruises to turbo title in Event #22 ($82 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo)

Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Luske went on a deep run Event #22 $82 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, but the Dutchman got knocked out just before the final table when he fizzled out in 11th place. When the final table was set, Canada's hoffy26631 sat second overall in chips. With five to go, hoffy26631 took command of the lead and never looked back. Although Matt "plattsburgh" Vengrin attempted a last minute comeback, hoffy26631 thwarted plattsburgh's counter-attack. Plattsburgh busted in second place, while hoffy26631 won a TCOOP title.

Event #22 $82 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo attracted 1,136 runners. The top 144 places were awarded payouts out of the $85,200 prize pool, with $14,892.96 set aside for the eventual champion.

Team PokerStars Pros in this event included Marcel Luske (11th), Chris Moneymaker (348th), and Matthias De Meulder (730th). PokerStars Team Online Pros taking a shot at a TCOOP title included mement_mori (764th) and Shaniac (776th).

Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Luske had a stellar run at the 2013 PCA

Marcel Luske got in trouble in the first thirty minutes. His stack incurred a massive blow and the Flying Dutchman was on the verge of elimination and down to his last 420 in chips. Luske, the consummate veteran, did not panic. He was cooler than a John Coltrane tenor sax solo and doubled up. And doubled up. And doubled up again to get his head above water. Luske was quickly back on track.

When the tournament slowed down during the money bubble, Luske was in good shape sitting the top 40 overall in chips. Luske didn't ease off the pedal and scooped a 97K pot with A♥J♠6♠4♣ (he won the high with two pair and the low with a 6-4-3-2-A). That hand rocketed Luske to fifth overall with a 110K stack.

While all of his fellow Team Online and Team Pros already eliminated, Luske grinded his way into the top 40 before he won a pot that propelled him near the top. With 45 to go on five tables, Luske went on another heater. He was (or chopped) seven pots in nine hands. He doubled his stack and chipped up to 333K, which was good for third place in chips.

With 30 remaining, Luske had his first major setback since the opening levels. He slipped to under 250K, but was still hanging tough and tenth overall in chips. With 18 remaining on the final two tables, Luske was ninth overall with 278K. Germany's AttZZe, sitting two seats to Luske's left, held the big stack with 800K.

With 13 to go, Luske's ship hit rough seas and he was almost thrown overboard. Luske's 5♠5♥4♥3♦ lost to kuusminolix's A♠9♠J♦8♣. Without any qualifying low, Luske's set of fives were no match for kuusminolix's Queen-high straight. Luske was crippled, but stayed alive when he doubled up on next hand with a King-high flush to get back to 260K.

Marcel Luske eliminated in 11th place

With 11 to go, Luske and Oleg A2222 rumbled. Luske was all-in preflop with A♥K♠K♣3♠ against Oleg A2222's A♦A♣8♦5♣. The board ran out Q♦8♣3♥5♥8♥ and Luske's two pair failed to beat Oleg A2222's trips. Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Luske was knocked out in 11th place and he earned $809.40.

The board ran out Q♣8♥5♠T♠K♦. Without any qualifying low, sbj1000 dragged the entire pot with two pair -- Kings and Queens. AttZZe busted out in ninth place and won $979.80. For a tenth-place finish, kuusminolix collected $809.40.

Event #22 - Final Table Chip Counts:
Seat 1: Oleg A2222 (1,056,450)
Seat 2: fwchan (415,520)
Seat 3: netix (455,773)
Seat 4: sbj1000 (959,617)
Seat 5: aas888 (814,261)
Seat 6: hoffy26631 (942,343)
Seat 7: FeelYourFear (547,944)
Seat 8: plattsburgh (488,092)

The final table commenced during Level 40 with the blinds at 100K/200K. Two players simultaneously busted out on the bubble, so Event #22's final table was only eight-handed. Oleg A2222 began the final table as the chip leader and was the only player with a stack in excess of 1 million. The short stack honors went to fwchan, who held 415K.

fwchan eliminated in 8th place

Short-stacked fwchan was treading water during the previous levels and became the first player to get picked off the final table.

One of the big stacks, hoffy26631, min-raised to 320,000, plattsburgh bumped it to 480,000, fwchan called all-in for 275,520, and hoffy26631 called plattsburgh's raise. Three-handed. The flop was J♣T♠9♥, hoffy26631 fired out 160,000, plattsburgh raised all-in for 310,411, and hoffy26631 called.

fwchan: A♣Q♣Q♦5♣
hoffy26631: 8♣7♦4♦4♣
plattsburgh: A♦A♠8♦7♥

Both plattsburgh and hoffy26631 flopped a straight, but fwchan held a Broadway draw. The turn was the 9♦ and the river was J♠. Without a qualifying low, hoffy26631 and plattsburgh chopped the pot. Alas, fwchan failed to improve and was eliminated in eighth place, which paid out $1,704.

sbj1000 eliminated in 7th place

Short-stacked sbj1000 called all-in. Three players limped in (aas888, hoffy26631, and plattsburgh). The flop was Q♥T♦9♥... plattsburgh checked, aas888 bet 160,000, hoffy26631 called, but plattsburgh folded. The J♠ fell on the turn... aas888 bet 320,000 and hoffy26631 called. The river was the J♥ and both players checked. At showdown, sbj1000 mucked a losing hand. Although aas888 had Aces with A♣A♦9♣4♥, they were cracked and lost to hoffy26631's King-high straight and K♥T♠9♦8♣. Denmark's sbj1000 busted in seventh place and earned $2,556.

FeelYourFear eliminated in 6th place

Another short stack bit the dust. FeelYourFear called all-in for 165,466. Both blinds called (aas888 in the SB and hoffy26631 in the BB). The flop was K♠8♠7♥... aas888 checked, hoffy26631 fired out 200,000, and aas888 folded.

hoffy26631: Q♥T♠9♣6♣
FeelYourFear: A♠T♦3♣2♦

FeelYourFear was ahead with Ace-high yet hoffy picked up a straight draw. The turn was the K♦ and the river was the T♣. FeelYourFear finished up with two pair, but hoffy26631 rivered a ten-high straight to win the pot (without a qualifying low). Russia's FeelYourFear took home $3,408 for sixth place.

With five remaining, Oleg A2222 brought up the rear as the short stack with 139K. Sitting in second was plattsburgh with 1.1 million and hoffy26631 held onto the top spot with 2.8 million.

Oleg A2222 eliminated in 5th place

Oleg A2222 was all-in from the big blind for 139,350. Only hoffy26631 and plattsburgh called. Three-way. The flop was A♣6♥2♠ and plattsburgh check-called a 200,000 bet from hoffy26631. The turn was the 5♦ and both players checked. The river was the J♣... plattsburgh bet 400,000 and hoffy26631 called. At showdown, hoffy26631 and Oleg A2222 mucked losing hands. The mighty plattsburgh scooped after he flipped over 8♦5♣4♣3♣ for a six-high straight and a Wheel low. Russia's Oleg A2222 exited in fifth place, which paid out $4,260.

With four to go, hoffy26631 retained the top spot with 2.2 million, but plattsburgh chipped up to 1.8 million. Meanwhile, netix was struggling with a 631K short stack.

aas888 eliminated in 4th place

With four to go... aas888 raised to 500,000, hoffy26631 bumped it up to 750000, and aas888 called. The flop was K♥Q♥3♠, and hoffy26631 bet 250,000 and aas888 called. The turn was the J♣.... hoffy26631 fired out 500,000, aas888 jammed all-in for 773,522, and hoffy26631 called. The turn was the 5♥. Unfortunately aas888 could only muster up a pair of Queens with A♦Q♦7♠6♠, but it was not good enough to beat hoffy26631, who turned a set of Jacks with K♣J♥J♠T♣. Russia's aas888 collected $6,049.20 for fourth place.

With three to go and facing even crazier escalating blinds, the remaining players agreed upon a deal. Big stacked hoffy26631 locked up $12,914.06, plattsburgh got $10,124.24, and netix secured $9,769.06... with $1,000 left on the table for the winner.

netix eliminated in 3rd place

Three hands after the deal was set... netix raised to 500,000 and hoffy26631 called from the big blind. The flop was 9♦4♣2♠... netix bet 250,000, hoffy26631 raised to 500,000, and netix called all-in for 88,092. The turn was the 2♣ and the river was the T♠. Without a qualifying low... netix lost with A♠Q♠8♣5♠, while hoffy26631 won the pot with trip deuces and Q♣3♣3♠2♦. Austria's netix won $9,769.06 for third place.

HEADS-UP: plattsburgh (Mexico) vs. hoffy26631 (Canada)
Seat 6: hoffy26631 (4,934,025)
Seat 8: plattsburgh (745,975)

It wasn't looking good for plattsburgh who was facing almost a 6.6 to 1 disadvantage. Heads-up lasted only seven hands.

plattsburgh eliminated in 2nd place; hoffy26631 wins Event #22

Heads-up began on a positive note for plattsburgh. He scooped the first hand with a pair of fives and a 8-5-4-2-A low, which beat out hoffy26631's 8-6-5-3-A low. Plattsburgh doubled to over 1.5 million, while hoffy26631 slipped to 4.2 million. Alas, that's as high as plattsburgh would get.

On the final hand... hoffy26631 opened to 600,000, plattsburgh escalated a raising war until it was capped pre-flop. The flop was K♦Q♥6♣... plattsburgh bet all-in for his last 266,950 and hoffy26631 called.

plattsburgh: A♠J♦J♥9♦
hoffy26631: T♣T♠6♠5♦

On the flop, plattsburgh picked up a Broadway straight draw, but his pair of Jacks were slightly better than hoffy26631's pair of tens. However, the 6♥ spiked on the turn and hoffy26631 improved to trip sixes. The river was the 2♥. No qualifying low and plattsburgh's two pair -- Jacks and sixes -- failed to win. The high hand went to hoffy26631's trips, who won the pot and the tournament.

For a gutsy runner-up performance, online grinder Matt "plattsburgh" Vengrin earned $10,124.24. Meanwhile, Canada's hoffy26631 collected $13,914.06 for first place in Event #22. Congrats to hoffy26631 for becoming the next TCOOP champion.
