TCOOP 2013: From Zero to Hero, Risco Zero wins Event #34 ($215 NLHE 2x Chance)

In poker, there's no such thing as zero risk. Everything involves some gamble and some element of chance. But that didn't stop Brazil's "Risco Zero" from taking down today's TCOOP title in impressive fashion.

Event #34 of the PokerStars TCOOP saw a healthy field of 2,816 players take to the virtual felt for the $215 No Limit Holdem 2x Chance event. With 1,176 of those players taking advantage of that second chance with a rebuy, the total prize pool of $798,400 was almost double the advertised guarantee.

Johnny Lodden, Max Lykov, Tatiana Barausova, Vivian Im, Christian de León, Mickey Petersen, Martin Hrubý, Matthias de Meulder, Theo Jorgensen, Grayson Physioc, Alex Kravchenko and Nacho Barbero were all amongst the action representing Team PokerStars but sadly fell short of the money.

Also missing the money was FYiWin from Malta who bubbled in 361st place to miss out on the $510.97 min-cash.

After just three hours of play we were already down to the last 100 players with George "Jorj95" Lind and Kevin "WizardOfAhhs" Thurman both still in contention. Lind departed in 88th place for a $1,237.52 collect and Thurman looked set to make a run at the final table before bowing out in 35th place for $2,075.84.

When Hichcock ran A♠6♣ into the A♥K♥ of Risco Zero, the board bricked out to see Hichcock out in 10th place and our final table formed as follows:

Final Table Lineup
Seat 1: De Imho (1,321,404 in chips)
Seat 2: charlesak7 (2,520,728 in chips)
Seat 3: dominospizza (2,278,374 in chips)
Seat 4: ante_geia_AA (493,266 in chips)
Seat 5: Risco Zero (3,166,817 in chips)
Seat 6: Crim44 (1,381,160 in chips)
Seat 7: KongenavU (408,681 in chips)
Seat 8: €urop€an (2,926,147 in chips)
Seat 9: OU THE NICK (5,463,423 in chips)

OU THE NICK was the chip leader, and with a previous WCOOP Main Event final table to his credit, OU THE NICK was the one to catch. But with the blinds starting out at a hefty 60k/120k/15k, anything was possible. That's what ante_geia_AA was hoping for anyway, starting out with just four big blinds. But once the big blind rolled around, ante_geia_AA was committed all in preflop with {6d}{5s}. ante_geia_AA was up against dominospizza's Q♥9♠ with queen-high good enough on the 7♣2♠8♦A♣K♠ board. ante_geia_AA collected $6,786.40 for 9th place.

OU THE NICK came back to the pack, doubling up two short stacks in consecutive hands, before De Imho was unlucky to depart in 8th place. De Imho three-bet shoved all in with T♦T♥ and was in great shape when €urop€an called with A♦T♣, but the 5♦7♠A♥J♦9♣ board brought an ace on the flop to see De Imho to the rail for $11,576.80 in prize money.

KongenavU was soon to follow after blinding down to around three big blinds. With one of those in the middle as the big blind, KongenavU called off the rest with T♥8♥ but Crim44 had the goods with A♣A♠ which held through the board of K♦K♥T♠9♣2♦. KongenavU took home $19,560.80 for 7th place.

dominospizza said, "lets chop it up?"

Referring to the prize pool and not the pizza, the players were still trying to find the "Deal" button in the software when charlesak7 was all in with J♥J♣. €urop€an was pushing the action with A♥8♦ and the aggression was rewarded on the board of A♣T♥2♣A♠Q♥ with trip aces. charlesak7 missed out on the pizza but will be content with $27,544.80 for 6th place.

A key hand of the tournament, and the biggest to date, saw Risco Zero double through with A♥K♦ holding against €urop€an's A♣6♣ to switch the chip lead.

Two hands later and we were down to four when OU THE NICK shoved for nearly nine big blinds from the small blind. dominospizza made the call in the big blind with A♠9♥ for the best hand against OU THE NICK's J♥5♠. Both players flopped a pair but the board of 5♣9♦3♦3♥2♥ gave the pot to dominospizza to send OU THE NICK to the rail in 5th place for a $35,528.80 score.

The players were still keen to talk numbers, but couldn't get everyone to agree which gave Crim44 a chance to claw back into contention. Crim44 doubled up with A♦5♣ against Risco Zero's Q♠9♦ to take the chip lead as a crucial moment when the clock was finally paused to talk deals.

After 25 minutes of arguing, a consensus could not be reached, and play resumed. But just a few hands later, the clock was paused for another nine minutes of discussion, and finally an agreement was reached.

It proved favourable for dominospizza, who upon the resumption of play, shoved all in with Q♠T♥. Risco Zero made the call with 5♥A♠ which was too strong on the board of 5♠K♦9♦6♦K♠. dominospizza collected 63,819.53 pizzas for 4th place.

With three players left, Crim44 had a chance to take a stranglehold on the title in a massive all-in clash with fellow big stack Risco Zero. But that all changed with the cruel fall of the cards:

Crim44 started with the best hand and looked set with an ace hitting on the flop, but running clubs brought a flush for Risco Zero for the huge double up.

Risco Zero didn't have it all his own way however, as €urop€an also got lucky with a backdoor straight to crack Risco Zero's flopped set:

A short-stacked Crim44 was forced to make a move and chose 8♣7♦ to commit for a tick over three big blinds. Risco Zero made the call with T♦T♥ and the pair held on the board of A♥K♥T♣8♥J♥. As the clear chip leader when the deal was struck, Crim44 took home $111,128.96 which was more than originally slated for second place.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 5: Risco Zero (12,858,558 in chips)
Seat 8: €urop€an (7,101,442 in chips)

€urop€an was able to strike the first blow heads-up to grab the chip lead, but it all swung back in favour of Risco Zero after more brutality:

Risco Zero was in danger but flopped the world to double through in dramatic fashion.

It left €urop€an in trouble, and with just six big blinds €urop€an moved all in preflop with 2♠6♠. Risco Zero held J♦Q♦ to make the call and again came from behind on the board of 2♦7♦4♣J♥J♣. €urop€an's flopped pair was overtaken as Risco Zero made trip jacks for the win. €urop€an pocketed $74,102.88 as Brazilian Risco Zero added $86,412.79 to the account along with the title of TCOOP champion!
