TCOOP 2014: OnTheThinIce skates way to Courchevel victory in Event #2 [$55 NL Courchevel H/L]

"Skating on thin ice" is a common cliche attributed to someone taking a hazardous risk. One misstep can be disastrous because if you don't drown, you'll probably freeze to death. But don't tell that to Finland's OnTheThinIce, who became one of the first newly crowned champions on the opening day of the Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP). OnTheThinIce started the final table of Event #2 ($55 NL Courchevel Hi/Lo) as the chip leader and safely faded a deadly fate.

TCOOP Event #2 $55 NL Courchevel Hi/Lo attracted 1,831 runners. They boosted the prize pool to $91,550. The top 240 places paid out with $16,022.12 set aside to the eventual champion.

TCOOP's turbo-charged atmosphere featured five-minute levels. It took approximately two hours to make the money in Event #2 and the entire tournament was completed in approximately four hours and twenty minutes.

PokerStars Team Pros taking a shot at a TCOOP title included George Danzer, Jonathan Duhamel, Marcel Luske, Martin Hruby, and Nacho Barbero. Team PokerStars Online grinding it out in Event #2 included Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen and George "Jorj95" Lind.

The only notable player to advance the money in Event #2 was Team Online's mement_mori, who busted shortly after the money bubble burst. He got it all-in on first street during a multi-way pot. The board ran out 5♦Q♠2♥J♥3♣. loveHitGirl won the high pot with a set of fives, while PAhakuutti dragged the low with 7-5-3-2-A. mement_mori made a final stand with Q♣T♦8♣6♠3♠ and lost with two pair -- Queens and treys -- and a low of 8-6-5-3-2. Team PokerStars Online mement_mori hit the road in 208th place, which paid out $89.71.

Denmark's kondikurt bubbled off the final table in ninth place when herosnappinG scooped with a Wheel low and a seven-high straight. With eight players remaining, the Courchevel final table was officially set.
