A great group of Team Pros

Even though I travel for poker all the time, I don't often get to spend much time with the other Team Pros. Everyone is so busy with poker all the time, and it's such an individual pursuit. We don't all go to the same festivals, and even when we do we're not all on the same schedule. Some bust out early, some run deep. Some play side events, some play cash. It's hard, even at the PCA, to get everyone together.

Recently many of us assembled in Barcelona for a commercial shoot. Because there were multiple sets involved in the shoot, we had a lot of downtime where we didn't have much to do but couldn't go far from the set. I hung out with Liv Boeree, Jason Mercier, David Williams, Andre Akkari, Isaac Haxton and several other Team Pros and had a chance to connect with them more than normal.

I'd never complain about my lifestyle - in fact I love it! - but it does get tiring moving from place to place all the time, and it's difficult to maintain close, healthy relationships with people. At some point I'm probably going to want to slow down a bit and take a few months to recharge at home in London. Until then I just have to work extra hard on my relationships with others.

Barcelona was great for that. We were there for a week and got to know each other a lot better. That's very important, I think, especially because I like them all so much. There are a lot of great poker players among the Team Pros, but there are also a lot of great people. We all have so many different backgrounds and so many different viewpoints on the world. I feel like I learn something new every time I talk with any of them.

You might be suspicious of this but we don't talk much about poker when we're together. Definitely not as much as people would expect. I think for all of us, poker is such a huge part of our lives that our downtime is our downtime, whether we're with poker players or with people who don't know the game at all.

The most surprising thing to me that came out of my week with the other Team Pros is that we all have a very good grasp on realizing how lucky we are to have what we have. It was such a nice thing to discover. I mean, think about it. We were all taking a break out of our travels around the world, playing a game we love, to assemble in an incredible city like Barcelona for a commercial shoot. To me, that's a charmed life, and I was glad to see the other Team Pros feel the same way.

As for that commercial shoot, right now I can't tell you much about it. You'll just have to wait to see it when it comes out, but I think it's going to be awesome!
