Team Pro road trip

I never realized how much went into making a television commercial until I stepped on the set of my first PokerStars brand shoot. I couldn't believe the amount of people working on it. It was a huge project, on a much larger scale than I'd envisioned. A big group of us Team Pros traveled to Barcelona to film these adverts and it was an absolutely awesome time. It was great to spend some time with the team; we all went out for dinner together most nights and got to know each other a lot better. I've played in my fair share of televised tournaments, but other than interviews I had never been part of a big filmed project. I was absolutely loving it and I'd really excited to see the finished product. My family is dying to see it. The EPT Monte Carlo has been airing in the U.K. on Channel Four and my Gram stays up to watch it. I've told her many times I could record it since it's on quite late, but she insists on staying up late to watch me play.

After Barcelona, we all went on a big Team Pro journey to London, where we boarded a tiny little propeller plane to take us to the Isle of Man for the UKIPT event. Once we arrived, we boarded a mini bus that whisked us away to PokerStars headquarters. The first thing that struck me was how small the island is. Most days, you can see all the way from one side to the other. I'd heard it was nice but perhaps a bit slow, so I had low expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover there was plenty to do and loads of bars and restaurants along the promenade. My only disappointment was I didn't see any cats without tails! I researched Manx cats and was hoping to see some in the wild, but unfortunately didn't catch a glimpse.

It was awesome to step inside the PokerStars "mothership." Lee Jones showed us around and we got to tour all the different departments and meet a ton of people. Everyone I met was really cool and it felt great to be a part of it all.

Now I'm back in Leeds. This year I persuaded Alex to stay here and have Christmas with my mum and me. She's missing the warm Florida weather a lot so after New Year's we'll head to Miami to visit her family before traveling on to the PCA. It seems like Alex has been pregnant for ages, but we still have several months to go before our daughter is born. I'm so excited about having a family. I grew up an only child and I always dreamt of having loads of brothers and sisters and big family gatherings. Now that I have a nice jump start, perhaps that dream will soon be a reality.
