Andre Coimbra sets out on $100 to $100,000 challenge

A lot of poker players might well think Andre Coimbra is crazy. The 2009 Magic: The Gathering world champion became a member of PokerStars' Team Online a couple of years ago and has since shown himself to be...well, mildly insane.

The first flashes of his madness came last summer when he played all 100 MicroMillions II events. Now, Coimbra has decided to do something new.

He's asked PokerStars to reduce his Supernova Elite VIP status to Bronze.

Why would anyone do something so ridiculous? Well, Coimbra wants no extra advantage when he tries to turn $100 into $100,000 playing only tournaments this year.

That's right. He's going to start from scratch and try to make $100,000. Now here's the kicker: at the end of the year, he's going to donate his winnings to charity.

Honestly, we're having a hard time believing it ourselves, and I think his girlfriend may be a little incredulous, as well.

So, that's happening.

Coimbra plans to update us with video blogs throughout the year, so stay tuned for more on that.

If you want a little more insight into what goes in to the making of a poker madman, I suggest you start with this short film below that takes you inside Coimbra's life at home and online.
