World Series qualifiers stacking up

wsop2009_thn.gifChris Moneymaker rolled his carry-on down the aisle and slipped into the last seat in the Business Class section of the Delta plane. Within minutes, he would have his choice of filet mignon with shrimp scampi, crab cakes, or pasta on the ten-hour flight to Argentina. His seat would recline nearly all the way back. The moment he stepped off the plane in Argentina, he was greeted by a pretty young lady holding a "Chris Moneymaker" sign. She whisked him into a VIP lounge where we can only assume he was tended to with peeled grapes and Swedish massages. When we last spoke to Moneymaker several days later, his final words were, "See you in Monte Carlo."

This is Chris Moneymaker's life in 2009.

The story of how he got here has been told so many times, it's hardly worth re-telling. A little more than six years ago, he was a humble accountant in Tennessee. One $39 PokerStars satellite later, he was in Vegas and changing the poker world forever.

He was one of just a few back then. Today, thousands of people qualify for the WSOP Main Event. As of this writing, PokerStars has qualified 441 people for the Main Event. With two months to go until the cards go in the air, PokerStars is working day in and out to give as many people as possible a chance at the Moneymaker dream.

This year's $12,000 prize package includes:

  • $10,000 Main Event buy-in
  • $1,000 for travel and expenses
  • Eight nights hotel accommodation at the Palms, plus extra nights after July 10 if still in the tournament
  • PokerStars player bag
  • Shuttle Bus to and from the Rio
  • VIP Invitation (+1) to July 9 PokerStars Player Party
  • Need some help in winning one of these things? Team PokerStars Pro has created a WSOP qualifying strategy page. If you're looking for a few pointers from people who have been there before, it won't hurt to give it a read.

As if you needed any more incentive, PokerStars has made a promise. If you win a satellite, show up to Vegas, and sign up with PokerStars to play the World Series, you will become a VIP Club Supernova. No need to put in the hours. Just enjoy the benefits of Supernova life after what's hopefully a profitable Series.

For full details, check out the PokerStars World Series qualifying page.

If you want to jump right into the action, you'll find all the satellites you could ever want under the EVENTS - WSOP tabs in the PokerStars tournament lobby.
