As the Stars Tweet: Ole!
The PokerStars European Poker Tour kicked off Season 9 in Barcelona, Spain, with a €50,000 Super High Roller event last week. Plenty of Team PokerStars Pros anted up to play including 2010 World Series of Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel who reentered twice, and the Twitterverse was filled with SHR tweets.
"Les vacances sont finies! Direction aéroport pour aller à Barcelone pour le @PokerStars European Poker Tour!!! #yeaaah," Duhamel tweeted.
Thankfully, his following tweets were in English. Unfortunately, none of them were as joyous or included as many exclamation points.
"Was at decent table, eventually lost all my chips to @LuckboxJuanda, KK vs AA preflop for 95bbs...will rebur later today or tomorrow :)."
Duhamel did rebuy, but things didn't go as planned.
"Well that was bad, got a super good table with huge fish on it, somehow manage to loose it all again, QQ < AK preflop #shishatime #back2moro."
The Canadian's third bullet was more of the same.
"Well..thats it..got it in AKs vs A8s for 45bbs each, 8 on the river, and im out...that was a fun tourney."
We're guessing that that last line was sarcastic.
Fellow pros Jason Mercier and Daniel Negreanu also busted out of the €50,000 SHR short of the money, but that didn't stop them from playing poker's newest craze -- open-faced Chinese poker.
"Playing open face with these fishies - @scott_seiver @RealKidPoker #massivechinese @Stapes is obv announcing the action."
Mercier was also sweating his fiancée Erica in the ladies event, but unfortunately she too busted short of the money.
"Ugh @eholla4 busts in 14th. 8 got paid. And the run bad continues...#whenwillitend"
When the 2012 WSOP concluded, Team Pros Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier and Eugene Katchalov went on a tour that highlighted Asia specifically. Grospellier took Katchalov to the Mecca of Starcraft in Seoul, South Korea, the two explored the Korean Demilitarized Zone and even ventured briefly into North Korea, and they also visited John Juanda and Masa Kagawa in Tokyo, Japan. Perhaps Grospellier still thinks he's in Asia, because this is what he wore in the EPT Barcelona Main Event:
"About to go play day1b of @PokerStars #EPTbarcelona dressed in kimono from Kyoto! #japanstyle"
Unfortunately, Grospellier didn't survive the day.
"Bust 88 vs AA allin on Q83hh."
