Eureka4 Prague: Over 1,000 players expected
There's an air of nervous apprehension in the room downstairs, every single table is in use - a total of 102. "It's going to be mental today," opined tournament director Luca Vivaldi. The cash game tables won't be in use but Vivaldi said that if a large enough number of players turned up late then they would look at incorporating them into the tournament. There's already 800 players on the official tournament clock. With many players having chosen to play online or travel yesterday, the field is expected to be the biggest ever for a Eureka poker event with the number already at 1,275 - just 40 players shy of the 1,315 that played in this very same event last year.
Eureka's biggest ever event was earlier this year when 1,432 descended into Vienna for the EPT Vienna Festival. For that record to be broken, 958 players will need to enter today and all signs point to that happening sooner rather than later.
Among those playing today will be many members of both Team PokerStars Pro and Team PokerStars Online with Marcin Horecki and Mickey Petersen representing the former and latter respectively. Many more European circuit regulars will also be involved but will also have one eye on the €5,000 satellite to the Super High Roller which starts at 4pm this afternoon.
Last night, Tomas Fara was the chip leader, finishing the day with 243,500 and his count will be the one everyone is looking to beat today. Brace yourselves people, today is going to be incredibly busy.
