PokerStars Championship Macau: A speedy bubble burst in the High Roller

With 27 players now remaining in the PokerStars Championship, it means the money bubble has officially burst for the HKD $10,000 High Roller. It was the unfortunate turn of Zdravko Duvnjak to leave today empty handed as the remaining field share a chunk of the HK $17,460,000 ($2.1 million) prizepool.

Duvnjak: A surprisingly happy bubble boy

The Day started with 78 which was quickly whittled down to 29 at the start of Level 15 - no thanks in large part to the stop-clock format, which gives players 30 seconds to make a decision before acting.

After holding on for as long as he could muster, John Juanda was eliminated just two away from the cash. The high-roller veteran's KO came after shipping his remaining nine big-blinds (around 45,000 chips) with 9♥8♥ on the button. He was quickly called by chipleader James Chen who held A♣Q♦.

The only hope Juanda had on the Q♥Q♠J♠ flop was a backdoor flush or a ten. He got neither as James Chen added more to his already enormous chip-leading stack of 800,000 chips.

The clocks were then paused as we moved into hand-for-hand.

By this point, there were a few small stacks in play, but none smaller than Duvnjak's 23,000 chips - just four big blinds. When he looked down at K♠T♣ he knew it'd have to do as he announced "all-in".

He was called by Sosia Jiang on the button. And unfortunately for Duvnjak held K♣J♣. The J♦ on the flop solidified Dunvjak's fate as the Croatian left for the day with nothing to show for his day and a half's efforts.

Play continues into Level 16 - and with the likes of Dan Smith, Nick Petrangelo, Sergey Lebedev and PokerSars Team Pro Felipe Ramos still in the field, it looks set to be an exciting next few levels as we play down to the final table.
