PokerStars Festival Bucharest: Action kicks off for Day 1B
Hello and welcome from a blistering Bucharest as play kicks off for Day 1B of the €500,000 guaranteed PokerStars Festival here in the Romanian capital.
It was an exciting day here at the JW Marriot yesterday which saw a field of 177 whittled down to just 66 at close of play. The story of the day came from the all-time Romanian money leader and recent WSOP bracelet winner Alexandru Papazian who went from chip leader, back to short stack and then busto all in the space of the afternoon.
He met his end after getting his remaining chips in the middle with an open ended straight-flush draw, only to be trumped by the nut flush. The recipient of his chips, Andrei Nodea, ended up finishing third in chips for the day (196,100). He ended the day just behind fellow country-men Solomon Stan (196,800) and the overall chip-leader Tamas Kabatnic (236,300).
We're expecting a few recognizable faces among the field today. They include, Chris Moneymaker who is set to join us hot off a busy day of press conferences and wining and dining with Romanian A-listers yesterday. He'll be joined by last year's Eureka 6 Bucharest winner Avishai Shitrit, British pro Sam Grafton and chess grandmaster Loek van Wely.
As with yesterday we'll play out ten 45-minute Levels today, with players starting with 30,000 chips and blinds starting at 50/100. As we close out the first Level of the day the board reads 320 runners, and action is now well under way.
We'll be providing updates throughout the day, but in the meantime here are a few you might have missed from yesterday:
