ANZPT Adelaide: Rotar spins to day 1B chip lead

The Grandstand Bar adjacent to the Poker Zone at Adelaide Casino is doing brisk business as players dissect the finer points of the day after the second flight of day one in the ANZPT Adelaide Main Event.

The 66 players who took their seat at the start of a hot and humid day 1B lifted the total Main Event field to 138 players, and it looks likely that the 2009 tally of 215 will be surpassed. Just 38 players survived the seven one-hour levels, joining the 40 survivors from day 1A who'll return for Friday's day two.

An impressive line-up joined the day 1B line-up including 'The Poker Star' herself, Amanda De Cesare, Eric Assadourian, a member of Team PokerStars PRO Australia, 2009 APPT Grand Final winner Aaron Benton and a few well known Internet phenoms such Tony bond18 Dunst, Andrew LuckyChewy Lichtenberger and 2008 Bellagio Cup winner Mike SirWatts Watson.

Sitting atop the chip count at day's end was PokerStars Qualifier Sam Rotar with 84,500 in chips, closely followed by Lichtenberger with 81,200. Eric Assadourian enjoyed one of his better days on the felt in recent times to finish fourth overall with 69,250, while De Cesare tallied 39,175 and Benton 34,000. freeroll qualifier, Geoffrey Gillbee, playing his first live tournament, will take 15,750 in chips to day two.

Tomorrow's field will includes PokerStars Sponsored player Clonie Gowen along with the top three finishers in ANZPT season one's Player of the Year race - Joel Dodds, who finished in third, runner up Chris Levick, and winner Tony Hachem, another member of Team PokerStars PRO Australia.

We're off to sample one of South Australia's world-class wines - well, maybe two - in preparation for tomorrow day 1C flight in the ANZPT Adelaide Main Event at Adelaide Casino.
