ANZPT Perth: Day 1A, level 7 (blinds 300-600, ante 75)

8pm: Seven to go

The announcement has just been made that there'll be another seven hands to end day 1A of the PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Main Event. As the clock ticks past 8pm local time and the fiddler keeps a fiddlin', 48 of the 83 starters are hoping to hang on to ensure their return for day two.

It looks likely that Nik and Aleks Lackovic will finish near the top of the count, while David Steicke, Kelvin Beattie and Sean Dunwoodie will also finish at the pointy end of the chip tally. But the tournament is over for Tom Grigg after he tried a triple-barrel bluff only to be caught out.

7.45pm: Short stack stresses

It's go-hard or go-home time as the short stacks make their move with just over 30 minutes to play on day 1A of the ANZPT Perth Main Event. Nik Lackovic just picked up one scalp after his K-Q outkicked Chris Rusden's K-9 on a board that ran out 4♣ K♣ 3♥ 8♠ J♦. That hand took Lackovic back into the chip lead and through the 100,000-chip barrier for the first time today. At the other end of the scale, players including Ivan Tan, Tom Grigg and Mike Stecker are hoping to find a double-up before the end of play.

7.15pm: On the home stretch

Players have just taken their seats after the final break on day 1A of the PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Main Event. The novelty of an afternoon of Irish music being pumped through Burswood Casino might be wearing thin, but we're still pumped up for the final 60 minutes of play. After a steady rate of eliminations in the past two hours, fireworks are expected in level seven.
