ANZPT7 Perth Day 1b: Fresh faces take their seats
After a big night here in the poker room at Crown Perth, a new batch of players are wandering in to try their luck in the second flight of the ANZPT Main Event Day 1.
Just like last night, today's poker action will be spread across six levels of an hour each. Those remaining at the end of the day will join the Day 1a qualifiers and battle it out tomorrow in hopes of claiming the first ANZPT Main Event title of the year.
Today's runners will take their seats at 12:30pm local time and start with 20,000 in chips. Time will tell if we can outdo the 99 entrants from last night's flight.
Of the 54 players to already qualify for Day 2, Macau regular Raiden Kan is the chip boss. Kan accumulated 80,450 in chips last night and looks set to continue his already great year with a deep run here in Perth.
Kan is followed closely by Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang. The number one on Singapore's all-time money list bagged up 75,450 before the end of the first flight. Huang already made the ANZ Player of the Year scoreboard with a cash in the Aussie Million Main Event and will be looking to claim another nice score this week.
Internationals Jack Salter and Mustapha Kanit are expected to join the action today after final tabling the 6 Handed event last night. Kanit took the title and the $34,000 top prize. Both players have some impressive results on Australian soil and will be hoping to add to their live resumes here at the ANZPT.
High roller specialist Steve O'Dwyer is also in town and will be an unlikely entrant in today's $2,300 Main Event. Fresh off a sixth place finish in the Aussie Millions $25,000 Event for $156,000, O'Dwyer just took his seat here at Crown Perth.
The action is just kicking off and with approximately 70 entries so far, it seems Day 1b's field mostly consists of local talent. With late registration open for 2 hours, we'll be keeping an eye out to see if any other notable names decide to make an appearance.
Players today will be hoping to survive to Day 2 and chasing yesterday's chip leader Kan. We'll be following the action and bringing you all the stories from on and off the felt right here at the PokerStarsblog.
