ANZPT7 Perth Day 1a: Huang hunts in the west
The first stop on the ANZPT is heating up in Perth, with players doing their best to accumulate chips deep into Day 1a of the Main Event. One of those players is Team Pokerstars Pro and 1st on Singapore's all-time money list, Bryan Huang.
After cashing in the Aussie Millions Main Event last month, Huang has made the trip across the country in the hopes of claiming a title here at Crown Perth. He's one of 99 entrants for the first flight of Day 1 here and says he's a big fan of the series.
"I really like playing in the Asia Pacific, especially at Pokerstars events," Huang tells us. "They always give us a good structure and the tournaments are great value."
Huang has been to Perth a few times for poker, and says the weather doesn't faze him too much.
"It's pretty warm but it's not as humid as Singapore."
If the heat does get a bit much, there's plenty to keep Huang occupied, including some of the finest restaurants that Crown Perth has to offer.
"I always have to visit Rockpool. One of my favourite steakhouses in the world."
The first flight of Main Event Day 1 is drawing to a close here, and Huang says he's accumulating chips.
"I'm running pretty good. I have 70,000 and the blinds are still at 200/400."
He'll hope to keep that trend going. Huang will be looking to not only make a nice payday and perhaps claim a title, but earning ANZ Player of the Year points also seems a priority.
"I always want to give the ANZ player of the year a shot. I've won the Asia POY before so having both would make me really happy."
Huang made the Player of the Year scoreboard with his Aussie Millions cash last month. A deep run this week might see him really chase the title and make all the stops on the ANZPT.
We'll be following Huang's progress closely this week. Maybe he'll be the next Main Event champion here at ANZPT Season 7 in Perth. You can follow along too right here as we bring you all the action from on and off the felt.
