ANZPT Repechage: TGIF
Friday night is my favourite time of the week. The working week has come to an end and it's a chance to put the feet up, grab a drink and relax.
If you're in Melbourne then Friday night offers a plethora of things to see and do. Melbourne is renowned for its brilliant restaurants, while the bars and clubs will certainly be jumping a little later on.
If you're a poker player, then Friday nights are probably something a little different.
You might grind some online satellites on PokerStars - there are last minute seat-only satellites to tomorrow's ANZPT Repechage running right now as well as some great value satellites to the upcoming ANZPT Queenstown event in late July.
Or you may head down to the Crown Poker Room to get your feet wet. The cash games are always ticking around the clock and are especially juicy on a Friday nights. If tournaments are your thing, and you're not one of the 70 remaining players in our ANZPT Repechage Day 1b field, then the $50 supersonic satellites are really cranking along tonight. They are run as commission-free, raise-or-fold, super-charged sit and go's with the top two winning Step 2 seats.
Another great pastime for poker players on a Friday night is sports betting. Getting "on the punt" combines Australians love of sports and punting in one swoop and Friday night is the perfect time to indulge. Tonight there's horse racing, greyhounds, rugby, French Open tennis and Aussie Rules Football, just to name a few.
And the Crown Poker Room is a great place to enjoy it. With the TAB lurking dangerously close by, you'll see many players scurrying over there during the breaks in tournaments, or when the button passes in the cash games, to lay a few friendly wagers. They then come back and take their seat and watch it all unfold on the big screen here in the poker room while enjoying a drink and the game they love.
Winning on the punt while winning on the felt. Not a bad way to spend a Friday evening.
One player enjoying his Friday night is Daniel Neilson. He's up to over 400,000 and is our clear chip leader. Neilson recently caught up with PokerStars.tv hostess Nicki Pickering for a chat:
