ANZPT Auckland Day 1c: Money talks
Registration has closed here on Day 1c and the bean counters have been hard at work in the dimly-lit back offices of the SKYCITY Auckland Casino to come up with the official numbers for the Season 6 ANZPT Auckland Main Event.
44 entrants on Day 1a and 66 on Day 1b, have been boosted by a very healthy 103 players here today on Day 1c to combine for a total of 213 players for the Main Event. That's a great result and it means that this is one of the rare events in the region to show an increase on the previous year's numbers. Congratulations to the team at PokerStars and SKYCITY Auckland for their efforts in pushing the satellite campaigns and driving support for the event.
Unsurprisingly, the field is dominated by Kiwis (71.8%) while the Aussies (17.4%) make up the majority of the remaining players. These numbers are remarkably similar to last year when we had 70.5% of the field from New Zealand and 18.8% from Australia.
The prize pool has come in at NZ$426,000 with the top 24 players set to finish in the money. A minimum cash is worth NZ$3,834 while making the final table of nine will earn at least NZ$10,650. However the prize they are all gunning for is the NZ$110,760 up top and the title of ANZPT Auckland champion. Head to the Live Updates section for a full breakdown of the payout information.
If around half of our players make it though today then we're going to have around 100-110 players starting things off tomorrow. It's only a three-day event, so that means we've got some work to do tomorrow to first burst the money bubble and then get as close to a final table as possible. It's likely we'll be stopping short of that point, and coming back on the final day with around two tables left.
It means there could be a long day or two ahead. Or perhaps we'll get lucky like last year, when Geoff Smith won a whirlwind final table that was all over in less than four hours after a four-way deal. Some players will do anything to get to a closing party?
