APPT Sydney: Jarred's jaw-dropping repeat

By Landon Blackhall and Sean Callander

It's hard enough to win one poker tournament at this level, but Jarred Graham has achieved one of the most remarkable feats in Australian poker history with successful defence of the APPT Sydney High Roller title he won in 2008. He won AUD $156,000 for victory in this year's AUD $15,300 buy-in High Roller tournament.

Back-to-back: Jarred Graham with some of the spoils of his victory

Spectators packed around the final table to see Graham deliver the final blow to a final table he completely dominated. George Moussa's challenge was crushed after Graham made a runner-runner flush with A♦ 9♦ to leave his rival with a handful of chips.

He did manage to double up once, then Moussa shipped it into the middle with 7♦ 7♣ but Graham tabled 9♥ 9♣ and the board was spread 2♥ 8♠ 4♣ 2♦ 9♦, confirming Moussa in second place for a tasty AUD $91,650. Other players to cash were Michel Bouskila (third for AUD $66,300), Jonathan Karamalikis (fourth for AUD $44,850) and Bill Jordanou (fifth for AUD $31,200).

APPT Sydney High Roller runner-up George Moussa could do little to stop Jarred Graham's momentum

Graham has had a standout year with impressive results in both live and online tournaments, cementing his status as one of the most talented players in Australia. In the past 12 months, he has captured four major live tournaments starting with the APPT Sydney High Roller in December 2008 for his biggest score to date of AUD $222,200.

He followed up with victory in the $1100 No Limit Hold'em Six-Handed Event during the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series in March for $26,000 and most recently the $1650 Sydney Poker Championships Main Event here at Star City, adding a further AUD $121,500 to his tournament earnings. Graham also maintained a consistent online record with his moniker flopnutsonyou a constant in the Australian top 10 rankings.
