APPT Melbourne: Crown Poker Room heating up

The Crown Poker Room is a hub of activity this afternoon. With Day 2 of the APPT Main Event in full swing (currently 115 players remaining approaching the end of Level 9), there's plenty going on throughout Australia's premier poker room.

A large gathering of players are currently at the registration booth with cash in hand for the $550 Deepstack side event which is about to kick off. The side event schedule has been well supported this week with a wide range of events to suit players of all limits and budgets. In fact, the APPT Melbourne brochure folds out to be four pages wide!

The series started off last week with an extremely popular $100,000 guaranteed event that cost punters just $50 to enter. This opening event attracted an incredible 2,072 players over eight opening flights. Throw in plenty of add-ons and the prizepool hit a staggering $116,120 with Calum Furness turning his small investment into a massive $22,062 pay day.

It set the tone for the rest of the series, with all side events well supported including 7-game, Mix-Max, Pot Limit Omaha and Six-Handed events. Today's side event is number nine of the APPT Melbourne series, with the 12-event schedule wrapping up on Monday afternoon.

Saturday is always a great time to be in the Crown Poker Room with the big screen currently showing today's big AFL match between the Cats and the Swans. There's also basketball and the local gallops on screens around the room, with the local TAB keeping punters occupied in between hands.

Later on this evening, the newly-developed "Hot Zone" towards the entrance of the room will create a real party vibe. Featuring plain-clothed dealers on low-limit blackjack and roulette tables, the music will be cranking and the drinks flowing, with the Hot Zone the place to be on a Saturday night in Melbourne.

As we look around the poker room, all of the tables are currently in use, so get your name on the wait list if you're thinking about jumping into the cash games later this evening. Low-limit games are available on the PokerPro tables, while cash table games start from as low as $1/2 NLHE running right through to $25/25 PLO.

It's great to see the place jumping, as there is simply no better poker room in the world than a packed Crown Poker Room.
