APPT Melbourne: A day for the dads

A beautiful Sunday afternoon greets us in Melbourne which is good news for all the dads out there as today is Father's Day here in Australia. Brekky in bed, family lunches and perhaps some footy with a few beers is the order of the day for most blokes around the country. But for 44 fellas who are about to take their seats in today's APPT Melbourne Main Event, many of them who are dads, today will be all about the poker.

Some of the locals would've been able to spend some time this morning with the kids, but for some of those who travelled from interstate to be at this event, there will be some mixed emotions missing the family back home. But once those bags are opened it will be time to focus on the task at hand as an APPT final table awaits.

Leading the way today is Wayne Bentley with his towers of chips amounting to a total of 450,000. We're not sure if he has any kids, but we're pretty sure he doesn't have 18 grandchildren like Leo Boxell who currently sits in second chip position with 400,000. It's a big day for Leo, not just because he's such a family man, but because all eyes will be on him as the defending champion in his quest for unprecedented back-to-back APPT Melbourne titles.

It's going to be a fascinating day with some of the finest poker players in the country still in contention. It's hard to name just a few with perhaps three-quarters of the field being well-known, successful players in this region with a couple of ANZPT/APPT champions, previous ANZ Players of the Year and even a few Australian Poker Hall of Famers still in the mix.

Whatever happens today, I'm guessing by later this evening, we're going to have a final table lineup for the ages.
