Queenstown Snowfest: Demlakian does best on Day 1b

The Queenstown Snowfest Main Event continued today in the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino with another stacked field putting the skis in the rack for one day to enjoy a friendly game of cards.

Day 1b of the Queenstown Snowfest Main Event attracted a field of 49 runners to bring our total number of entrants to a nice round total of 100. With Day 1c also expected to be near capacity, we're on track for close to 150 entrants which will be a new record for this event.

Some of those who took the leap of faith in today's field were Jesse McKenzie, Danny Chevalier, Patrick Healy, Joel Feldman, Ami Barer, Luke Edwards, Alex Lynskey, Billy "The Croc" Argyros, Matthew Wakeman, Ivan Zalac, Tom Grigg, Ben McLean, Ben Richardson, Liam O'Rourke, Jacky Wang, Ricky Kroesen, James Honeybone and the current ANZ Player of the Year leader, Anthony Aston.

Tom Grigg was active early as we witnessed him play every pot in one orbit before he became one of the first high-profile casualties after four-bet shoving ace-queen into pocket kings. After final tabling last year, Grigg will be able to get out and enjoy the ski slopes this time around.

Speaking of ski slopes, a PokerStars promotional sit 'n go was hosted on top of Coronet Peak today to give the local media a chance to learn a little more about the Queenstown Snowfest Event. Roy Bhasin and Bryan Huang were part of the event to represent the red spade, with this picture worthy of a magazine cover!

Back inside the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino and six levels of play saw our field reduced to 31 by the end of the day.

Ben McLean, Ivan Zalac, Ricky Kroesen and Brazilian Kiwi James Honeybone were all prominent, but the luck of the draw went with Ken Demlakian who grabbed the chip lead with a stack of 70,750.

Top ten chip counts
Ken Demlakian (Australia) - 70,750
James Honeybone (New Zealand) - 60,875
