Queenstown Snowfest: Toblerones all round!
We've spent some time letting you know more about some of the great sights of Queenstown, but we would be remiss not to mention a little about our wonderful hosts for the week - the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino.
After all, it's likely to be the place where our players will spend the majority of their time this week - if they are lucky.
Open 12 noon to 4am every day, the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino is one of the premier entertainment venues in Queenstown. It features fantastic live entertainment, world-class bars, great food and a dynamic gaming floor that offers over 80 gaming machines and tables that spread Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat and Caribbean Stud Poker.
We've already made our presence felt at the Wild Thyme Bar & Restaurant which was the venue for the Welcome Party earlier in the week. APPT Events Manager Robin Lim has masterminded the staff to change the "Cocktail of the Week" to the devilish "Toblerone", which now appears to be a tradition for us here. Hopefully we don't drink them out of Bailey's this time around.
SKYCITY Queenstown have been big supporters of poker and the Queenstown Snowfest, with satellites running throughout the year for this event.
The week we find ourselves in "The Summit Room" which is a multi-purpose room that is separate to the gaming floor. We have five poker tables setup here in the room, which is pretty much its capacity, but there's still plenty of room for us to walk between tables, while friends and fans can gather around the sides of the room to keep an eye on the action.
The Summit Room also has two glass doorways at one end of the room, leading out onto a smoking balcony, which provides natural light into the room throughout the day. Anyone who has ever spent some time inside a casino would realise that seeing natural light is a blessed relief! As the sun sets and the lights take over the town, a cozy warmth fills the room to provide a very pleasant environment for our players.
It really is a beautiful view. All we need now is a hot chocolate and perhaps a little snow to fall outside.
One man who doesn't mind the occasional Toblerone is PokerStars qualifier Dave Allan. PokerStars.tv hostess Nicky Pickering caught up with Allan a little earlier to see how he was progressing on Day 2:
