Queenstown Snowfest: The stage is set

The stage is set for thrilling finale here in Queenstown as the final nine take their seats for the final day of play at the Queenstown Snowfest Main Event.

Last year we had the final table setup on the main gaming floor, but this time around we're in the Summit Room with the final table in the corner of the room in front of the glass doors to provide a spectacular setting for the conclusion of this event.

It's a stacked final table lineup with some of the finest players in Australia and Asia.

The final table is highlighted by Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang who has flown largely under the radar with ruthless efficiency to be well-placed when play starts this afternoon. Huang final tabled this event back in 2010 where he finished in 9th place. Huang will be looking to improve on that result this time around to confirm his place one of the leading players in Asia.

ANZ regulars Ricky Kroesen and Ivan Zalac will be looking to draw on their experience to record a big result, while there will be plenty of attention on the online duo of Matthew Wakeman and Dave Allan. Both have a phenomenal online record, and you would think that they would be totally fearless this afternoon, but will the stage of a big APPT final table create a few nerves? It's the first time either has reached this point in a live tournament so they will be desperate to cash in and grab themselves some silverware.

The remainder of the final table also throws in plenty of complexity. Jordan Westmorland and David Zhao are excellent young players, capable of causing plenty of grief for their opponents, especially with a big stack in hand. While the unknown quantities are David Evans and Ken Demlakian. Evans has some work to as one of the short stacks, but Demlakian holds the tournament chip lead so all eyes will be on him to make a deep run.

Unfortunately there are no locals on this final table, so once again the title will be heading overseas. We have seven Australians, one Singaporean and one American who resides in Thailand, and interestingly David Zhao is the only player who is not representing PokerStars today as the remaining eight players are either PokerStars qualifiers or sponsored players.

The photos are out of the way and introductions have been made as our 2012 Queenstown Snowfest Main Event is now underway!
